Disney's deal with Kodansha is a fucking tragedy.

Imagine all the control the fucking rat is going to have on the shows because of the exclusivity. They already prudified Summer Time Rendering and now they're going after everything in the Kodansha catalogue. I am worried about Temple and Amagami.

Never really cared much about Kodansha, but Disney slowly monopolizing anime is kind of scary. With Netflix I don't have the same concerns cuz they rarely pick big titles to adapt and mostly focus on trash original stuff, but Disney is buying out everything lately.

Although I must say, Summertime Render fanservice was so out of place in 99% of the scenes that I was kind of glad they got rid of most of it.

I didn't watch that anime, but wasn't there a controversy about all the ecchi in it?

Ppl hated the fanservice of the manga. And praised the anime for removing most of it. That's pretty much it.

So much for that Sony monopoly that everyone was freaking out about...

And it's kinda werid to be scared of Disney when they still did a simulcast for Bleach and Tokyo Revengers, Summertime Render was one of the only ones that they didn't do that

Again, read my post. It's about the creative control they'll get by being the exclusive streaming partners.

Disney-Tencent duopoly hype time!
Who is gonna come out on top?
Who's buying dreamworks?
Will A24 finally save movies or are they stuck being boring forever?
Tune in next time to find out!

Being exclusive streaming partners and creative control aren't the same thing.

Crunchyroll had a deal with Kadokawa a couple of years ago, and that didn't change many things either.

And considering nothing has changed with Tokyo Revengers, I have doubts about that.

Two things. One, CR's audience is anime fans. For D+ it's normies. Secondly, the disney deal has a worldwide reach. CR's deal probably ended with NA.

Nope it didn't, if anything it's the opposite.

Disney is mostly focused in USA and Canada, while Crunchyroll is worlwide excluding Asia.

Jesus, just look up the deal. Disney has the worldwide streaming rights (this includes Japan, which makes up over half the industry revenue).

Didn't Netflix have a similar deal with JoJo, Violet Evergarden, Komi-san?
All of those shows were Netflix exclusives in Japan.

Money talks and anime is a business so if they have to neuter their productions to appease their corporate overlords then so be it, watching such or such anime is not obligatory.

Told yall mfers years ago Sony was fucking up and their actual competition was Disney.

Sony: Hur hur imma spurn the growing single male demographic and become slightly more edgy family friendly demographic Asian Disney! There is no future in a demographic with disposable income and a bottomless appetite for fan service.

This might mean that Tokyopop (which for the 2010s was pretty much on life support from Disney and Daewon C.I) might have some control over Kodansha properties again. Looks like things have come around full circle.

With that context, I remember some people complaining that it had too much.

I guess it's something but ehh... money talks when it comes with anime industry, so it was only matter of time. It will be fine probably unless they do the same s**t that happened with we know what (Summertime)

We'll have to see how things play out with Disney, but ecchi manga having their fanservice toned down or removed in anime adaptations is hardly a new thing. It happened with Love Hina and Negima! back in the 2000s, and neither of those had any big bad gaijin corporations licensing or involved with them until years after the production/airing was finished.

Everything that connects to MAL

Contains Ecchi, but not Tagged Ecchi: Part 1 || Part 2 || Part 3
