Aside from Toonami and 4kidsTV/FoxBox, what are some other TV Anime Blocks? (Not on Japanese TV, anywhere outside Japan)

Toonami and 4kids are pretty much the top/most recognized anime blocks. But let's discuss some others that might've been forgotten. The Chiller Network had a short stint with an anime block, but it was forgotten and scrapped almost as soon as it came. They aired 4 shows - Devil May Cry, Tokyo Majin, Black Blood Brothers and Is This A Zombie. Cartoon Network had Miguzi, which aired a lot of kids anime and was basically a light Toonami. It aired Pokemon, Yugioh GX, Zatch Bell and 4kids' One Piece. Plus some non-anime shows like Teen Titans

The only TV station where I've seen any anime when I was a kid was Jetix which originally had name FoxKids. Outside Cartoons I do remember watching: Pokemon, Sonic X, Shaman King, Naruto. I can't find it in a list but I also have memories of watching Yu gi oh, Duel Masters and maybe Bakugan I can't tell if that's the title but I do remember something with those little balls which transformed into some kind of mechs [also had some toys from it]. All of them were Polish dubbed which also made me a mistake of thinking that all of that were Polish cartoons instead of being an anime. [Also honorable mention to Galactic Football as I loved watching it.] I still remember my frustration when they ended streaming Naruto at 66th episode. It took me 2 years to find Naruto in the internet, which was on the same site where I started Bleach, I can't even tell my surprise when I heard the original voices instead of Polish ones x) Here's some stuff which are on youtube from those days, Shaman King Opening was the best thing from back than. [Checked the Sonic voices oh boy that brings some nostalgia] Even tho it isn't connected to topic I had to put Galactik Football intro, 2 versions as one of them is at very bad quality and somehow found the better version. Than in 2009 it was replaced with Disney XD which didn't have anime and it doesn't have till today here.

Funimation used to have their own cable channel called Funimation Channel from 2005 to 2015. This also included a TV block they reserved for Colours TV for a couple years from 2006 to 2008.

| TheBlockernator said:I know it's still around as a company but not many people remember or even knew the "Anime Network" actually had a dedicated cable tv network that one could just turn on the TV and randomly catch whatever was airing 24/7 even if it wasn't around long. Which is why I say it's probably the most forgotten. OnDemand TV is no different than streaming services or using Netflix where the viewer gets to decide what they want to watch or not. Probably one of the reason why people don't remember it very well is because it was cable TV you had to purchase it in order to access the channel and not all cable providers would provide packages with "Anime Network". | RTL ZWEI had a block for anime and cartoons under varying names, but not anymore. VOX had the Anime Nacht (anime night) as part of DCTP Nacht Club during which they were showing more adult oriented anime like Jin-Roh, Akira, Record of Lodoss War etc. Nowadays, ProSieben MAXX has the anime night on Fridays during which they're showing movies and/or more adult oriented anime. Other channels in Germany never had dedicated names for it as far as I know. |

You can also lump in Adult Swim Action for this. During the 2000s when Toonami was its own separate block on Cartoon Network, AS started airing a fair number of action anime with less censorship due to the block being aimed for older audiences. Titles like Cowboy Bebop, Big O, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, and FLCL all got popular with Western fans during that era due to their exposure on the block.

From the early 90's to 2007, that channel broadcasted Neon Genesis Evangelion subtitled before ADV film licensed & dubbed it in English. I believe that channel also broadcasted Dirty Pair Flash, Cat Girl Nuku Nuku, and Corrector Yui in subtitled format. If you want evidence, here's couple of video of KTEH broadcasting anime: Yes, it's hard to believe that a local PBS channel broadcasted anime, and that happened in that one part in California. Also I'm surprised nobody on this thread mentioned these 2 US TV channel that broadcasted anime back in early 2000's: AZN Television (aka International Channel): That's where Slayers was broadcasted on after Fox Kids couldn't broadcast the show in 2002. Many other anime like Fushigi Yugi was also broadcasted on there. Beside anime, that channel also broadcasted K-dramas (along with other East Asian TV dramas) before Netflix and Squid Game made K-drama cool, and K-pop before BTS/Blackpink made K-pop look cool today. What happened to that channel, well: ImaginAsian: That channel like AZN Television also broadcasted anime too (along with K-dramas). That channel broadcasted anime that wasn't shown on CN's Toonami/Adult Swim or Sci-Fi Channel. That channel broadcasted Wedding Peach, Initial D, Gravitation, Hikaru No Go, Kurokami, and a lot others. Both AZN Television, and ImaginAsian channel were later defunct and sign off with AZN Television ended broadcast in 2008 (if the video above didn't tell you), and ImaginAsian in 2011 (3 years after AZN Television shut down). Also, I was told by some of our Spanish-speaking fans in the US that several (not sure how many) anime (dubbed in Spanish) were shown on local Spanish-language UHF channels in the US (I assume Telemundo, Univision, and other predecessors before them). I found out some anime that weren't licensed in the US, but was in Latin/South America would get dubbed in Spanish and that Spanish dubbed anime would be later be exported to US TV station's Spanish-language channels. I believe Ranma 1/2, and Dragonball's Spanish dub were broadcasted on those particular channels way before those anime would later received an English dub few or many years later. So it wouldn't surprised me if Saint Seiya was shown in the early to mid 90's dubbed in Spanish on those particular Spanish-language channels in the US. |

In Mexico there's Canal 5 (Channel 5) which is one of the biggest channels in Mexico and airs a large variety of shows and movies, animated and live action, for kids or for adults. I don't think they have an anime block per se, but they do air Dragon Ball Z like every day during the evening (or that's how it was like 7 years ago when I last went there lol).

Where I'm from, most kids from my generation grew up with anime. Most cartoon channels banked on anime for their viewership. Popular shows included Doraemon, Pokemon, Shin Chan, Ninja Hattori, Beyblade and Kiterestu. Less popular anime included stuff like Perman, Ultra B and Hagemaru (although it was fairly popular when I was around 5).  I also remember watching Bakugan way back in 2007 and that's pretty much where my love story with anime began. Although, my proper introduction to the medium, was with Animax, in 2016. Animax aired the mainstream, popular stuff like Naruto, Bleach and One Punch Man, while also airing stuff like Kotoura-san, www.Working, Blade Dance of the Elementers and Cardfight Vanguard. Yeah, I loved those days.

About italy... from the late 80's to the early 2000's, there were Ciao Ciao and Bim Bum Bam that alternated about every morning and afternoon mostly from monday to friday on mainstream channels Canale 5 and Italia 1, it alternated cartoons and anime (too often, unluckily, heavily censored in adaptation) with prize shows where the hosts were often also voice actors from the same animated series aired in the same slot, and they were interacting with the audience by phone calls along with some puppets mascots. From the late 90's, everything that wasn't directly a cartoon or anime under the name of both shows was dropped until the total cancellation, even if some anime (reruns of Dragon Ball, Z and GT, Dragon Quest, Detective Conan, Yu-Gi-Oh, Beyblade, Shaman King, Hunter x Hunter, One Piece, and Naruto from the fall of 2006) were still aired around later lunchtime (2 PM) in a two or three time slots, often along with The Simpsons. Also from the late 90's, Mtv created the Anime Night every tuesday evening airing three different anime starting at 9 PM, often letting new series debut, even if it created also other slots of the day for longer series as Slam Dunk or Yu Yu Hakusho. Began watching it in early 2002 mostly for Ranma 1/2 that by coincidence during, the following spring and summer, aired the OVAs for the first and last time in television, and that's why i never found them in 2006 when i began collecting all the dvds. Two of my all time favorites were exactly presented by Mtv Anime Night, such as GTO and the first two seasons of Full Metal Panic, In 2005 and 2006 they also had a special anime week at the beginning of september and most of the afternoon / evening schedule was composed of movies and pilots of new series recently imported (i remember DNA^2 and Burn Up Excess from 2005 and enjoyed especially the latter when i watched it in full about two years after). The final great hit was Death Note starting with the fall of 2008 until the summer of 2009 and after that, sadly, it faded from existence.

I remember "Jetix" as its own channel back in the 2000's with some anime here and there. Then there was also "Pokito/MyPokito" (on the German channel RTLII) which was mostly focused on anime and aired every weekday from roughly 1pm to 6pm. Likewise did Super-RTL have an anime dedicated block, mostly on weekends really early in the morning. And currently there is the channel "ProSieben Maxx" where you can watch anime on weekdays for around 3 hours (4pm to 7pm) and they have an "anime-movie" night on Fridays (usually 1 movie and then a bunch of normal episodes from a variety of shows).
