| Japanese Media company, GDH, has announced that Youtube, Crunchyroll, and BOST online video services will be streaming new titles from animation studio Gonzo worldwide on the same day as they are released in Japan. The video streams will be in Japanese with English subtitles and will start with The Tower of Druaga: the Aegis of Uruk and Blassreiter anime series. All of these will be available via streaming for free, but GDH also mentioned "fee-based download of high-resolution movie files" in its press release. GDH added that its "decision to provide its content globally in parallel with Japanese broadcast is an effort to offer equal accessibility and new viewing opportunities to fans around the world, while at the same time showcasing a legal online alternative to illegal file-sharing and downloading." | I love this idea, so I really hope it all works out! It's just too bad I wasn't really interested in either of these series... but legally and for free, I'll try any series so I guess that point is moot. |

| Also love the idea. I am willing to pay IF and ONLY IF the service that will be provided is better than the current one. That means : 1. Better translation. I don't want something that even I with my japanese knowledge would 100% know that the line translated is a complete crap (like with some (subbers?) whose name i won't mention) 2. Better quality. I don't mind a lq version for free, but dammit i want my HQ version fix. 3. Right to download the files. No I don't want to stream HQ and even thou I have a high capacity line, most of the ppl outside of sweden still have lines bellow 10mbit upload/downoad. 4. That the price is reasonable. Something that even a student can afford. If those "conditions" are implemented well, I personally will stop downloading fansubs as the service provided is better and FASTER. No more waiting for weeks, months or even years to see something translated (often with butchered translation). |

| Nice. I'm guessing more anime companies will either go with Funi and Bandai or with Gonzo and Kadokawa side on this matter. But I am glad that some anime companies understand what people on the other side of the world feel. |

Even though fansubs exist around the net for many series, people still take the effort to completely rip the higher quality DVDs and distribute them. |

| I'm not overly fond of streaming, and hadn't heard of Blassreiter but as I was planning to give Aegis of Uruk a look anyway I'll use the legal avenues seeing as how they're available. I think offering simulataneous releases has great potential if they do it right. I sort of hope they do - if it works, other companies might give it a try too. |
| It seems a lot of people are worried about translation accuracy. I don't think this will be much of a problem because: A) Well, seeing as how the translation will likely be done by someone who is a professional and already works within the industry, it can't be that bad. B) They will likely have plenty of time to do an accurate translation, probably receiving the episode weeks in advance. C) It will be better than anything that you could hope to get within 24 hours anyway. Most speed subs are crap and a lot of people seem to be satisfied with them anyway. Personally, I hope this takes off and does amazingly well. If they make money at this then other studios will likely follow this model and it will only bring prosperity to the Anime industry which will lead to bigger budgets and more high quality shows. They're current market is only Japan with ~130 million people, with X amount of people watching Anime. With a worldwide market the chances of making money are that much greater and can only increase their viewers. This is a good opportunity to push out fansubs and I hope they succeed. I hope that everyone sees this opportunity to support the industry and bring anime back to the success it once had. If the price is reasonable, I'll be buying the HQ as they come out. It's a shame that Gonzo is sort of hit and miss on their shows. It seems that for every great show they put out (FMP, Hellsing, Gankutsuou, NHK ni Youkoso!) they also hand out a bunch of weaker shows (Final Fantasy Unlimited, Dragonaut, Samurai Girl Real Bout High School) Mostly average shows though. |

| So this was what Gonzo and GDH were up to when they contacted Crunchyroll and started trading ideas. Very interesting. Let's see how this will turn out. There's such issues as sub quality and the quality of the anime they are going to be releasing (Gonzo: now's a good time to make a Gankutusou-quality anime, and NOT a Dragonaut-quality anime), but we'll just have to wait and see. |
