well, you're right, but in my opinion it's precisely that concept that made the Blue Lock so popular. I mean, it's not the usual anime soccer we're used to – as you said Blue Lock has a very selfish idea of soccer – but in the end it's not that bad (in fact, I started reading the manga and even the drawings are really cool!)
looking forward to the next episode!!

I’m really enjoying it. I don’t really care for sports or sports anime/manga but this has been fire as an anime only.

I’ve only seen and enjoyed kuroko and haikyuu. I know there are some who didn’t enjoy kuroko because of how over the top it was and how the characters had seeming “powers” that made it feel more like a battle shonen than a sports series. I still enjoyed it.
Haikyuu is unanimously seen as amazing so I’ve got nothing but praise for that.

Blue lock is like the child of kuroko and haikyuu but with a battle royale twist.

I don’t know anything about soccer so can’t say much on the technicalities of the game but the animation is fire. I’ve only seen one of Studio 8bit’s animes which is the slime isekai but the animation is very impressive. They do use some cgi which sometimes looks iffy but overall it’s 9/10 animation quality.

The characters are all unique just like with haikyuu and I really like how because it’s a battle royale shonen type experience that we go quickly into the games while still giving proper development into the side characters. I want to see the MC develop and pop off more as well as have more hype moments like hinata did in haikyuu.

The best part of blue lock is definitely the way they animate the eyes when the players get into their mode of pure focus and adrenaline rush. It’s much more believable unlike with kuroko where “zone” seemed more like a state of superpowers that were being tapped into so in blue lock it’s more fitting because everyone is giving it their all to be the best and survive the blue lock program.

The second best part is the OST and Sound Design. The way everything sounds when epic moments occurs really nails the atmosphere in the head. Like the beginning of episode 7, that specific music they use is so fire and just builds up the tension.

I’m enjoying this as much as chainsaw man tbh just for the atmosphere/how tense the story is. That’s only because chainsaw man is still setting up the world, characters, and story while in blue lock they go 0 to 100 from episode 1 and they sustain that atmosphere of intensity with each round/game.

They say that the "team doesn't matter" but they've all formed a team and work to each others strengths and weaknesses so the team does matter really.

Whoever came up with the concept wrote that first and then failed to implement it but refused to rework the concept.

its not like that.

Ego said in the first ep that the Japanese national team has worldclass defenders and midfielders
but the only thing missing is a good striker.

I don't know if it is true for the real Japanese football team.

I mean our society is like that right.

"When we here the best footballer,
most people always imagine a striker."

"When we here the best cricketer
most people always imagine a batsman."

people support strikers more than other players.
most of the balloon dors are also given to the strikers.

who is the world's best football player is most commonly decided by how many goals that guy player made.

football is always this way, atleast where I live.

i mean if it wasn't for that concept then what's the point of the blue lock facility? they already have the other positions doing well in the japan team so since they're only trying to make the best striker, they try to instill that concept into their minds.

call me biased but as someone who's not a stranger to playing striker, i agree with that concept and i'm enjoying blue lock alot so far. tho i must say, the manga is better.

no way you watched 7 episodes and still think that's the message Blue lock is trying to convey. Literally most of the goals that have happened have come from team play. For Team Z's first goal, Isagi assisted Kunigami, Gagamaru's goal was also assisted by Isagi. So teamwork is very much evident. Find something actually relevant to complain about.

The series isn't saying striker is the only position that matters and that you need to be selfish to win. That's just the law of the land in a scenario Ego created specifically to create the striker Japan has been missing. The series isn't about football as a whole, we're just meeting characters and watching them become egoistic monsters that treat the game like it's their whole life. It's a very "anime" anime. You'll enjoy it more if you stop trying to see it through the eyes of the real world sport.

it's alright. I don't find it Awesome, it doesn't capture the emotions of Football, but has a mere psychological setting like Kakegurui which lowers my excitement. 7/10 till now. It doesn't explain the Actual Football, it's still Fiction and revolves around its own rules and regulations. Whoever thinks this is a good place to start football, you're gonna make tons of mistakes.

Trashy but it’s so entertaining to watch. Target audience is so shounen-like so can’t blame Blue Lock for its unbelievably exaggerated concept & characters. Wish it didn’t lack depth in explaining actual football skills

My issue lies elsewhere. Team Z is supposed to be the weakest team in there. Meaning even the weakest player in team Y is stronger than Team Z's strongest. And every player is supposed to show their egoism and aim for the top themselves in order to be the best striker. But in all the teams they played against till now, there are like 1 or 2 players who take the lead and the others are just following them? How does that make sense? Are they not supposed to have even more ego and drive than team Z's players?

I think it's a fresh spin on the whole team aspect, we are too used to seeing friendship and teamwork for the win. Now we can enjoy a characters personal struggles and hard work

I grew tired of sports anime where teamwork, team spirit and friendships between teammates, are the guaranteed right approach to victory.
Just the fact that they focused on the egoism aspect of sports is fresh and makes this show appealing.
