The match between Tokyo Esperion and Tokyo Musashino, and it's the facing of dreaded friends...and Takeshima takes time off with his twin sister Tae for 10 mins, LOLS the imagination.

Everyone is especially nervous for this match, and Takeshima got a new bob cut to ease them up and refire their motivation. It's time to face off, and the Esperion B Team works hard from the out set utilizing their individual skills against Musashino's high-press play. And even if they were close to scoring goals, it's ascertain that their direct attacking and long ball tactics will see them though.

On the contrary, Musashino were just waiting for Coach Satake to give the signal to Captain Chiaki Muto and start their tactic play. Esperion's tactics are starting to prove ineffective thanks to the playmaker, and the opponent's defensive play puts Esperion on high pressure, even if Kaneda is their problem player that can still make a chance to score goals: the team's high press, all players working together with the playmaker and lethal striker, everything that Esperion lacks.

It's back to man-to-man marking, and Esperion changes tactics to possession soccer to get back at their loss to amend with technique, as such with the case of Kuroda and Kaneda, and being able to etch a score out of the most unlikeliest of positions.

Esperion vs. Musashino, 0-1. The match is only getting started.

Production I.G. Is gonna be doing gods work with these last 4 episodes I can just tell.

Both teams adjusting strategies on the fly. Lowkey surprised Aoi became aware of such a tactic now now when it’s present in almost every sport. Also Kaneda really is a one man show I hope they exploit that and break Musashino down.

Aoi hasn’t even attempted to use Eagle Eye yet and rest of his Esperion teammates aren’t in sync yet. Aoi, Asari and Kuroda are an unstoppable weapon together. Aoi had a taste of what playmaking is like in their previous match as a defender. This guy has enough experience and strategy to win.

He got this.

10 minutes are still longer than teenager's average, I'm talking about haircutting of course ;)

I just love Ootomo running gag, I feel like he's playing the same role as Zenitsu from Demon Slayer, always nervous, always yearning for romance.

It's the last match of this season, so it's gonna be a long and hard battle. I hope it successful enough for a sequel. I heard the manga is doing well since the anime aired. But the manga alone is not enough anymore, it needs to have a whole fandom community.

Awesome episode! I was constantly on the edge, especially in the latter half. Waiting another week will be especially hard this time.
Esperion really has it tough right now. Their counter isn't working and are generally not in the zone yet, not to mention that Musashino plays like a well-oiled machine. This first half is definitely Epserion's loss. Their only hope now is to recoup in the locker room once half-time starts, though there is still a while for the whistle. This one will sure be tough.

Alright the episode fully showcasing how great Musashino bringing a trouble to Esperion and ended up giving the first score. No captain-playmaker in fully charge, a one-man army striker, become the main reason why Esperion back to the pinch again after having the confidence on the first-round of minute. As always the obvious confusion reaction coming from Aoi at first, being looking forward along the episode till the end. But in general the episode take all people in charge of speaking themselves about the match. But there's one person missing, i believe. I wonder if those person comes, next, if its not wrong...

Intriguing episode for the least said, and let's just call it a day and move onward to the next part...

aoi tripped kaneda's front part of the leg so kaneda in theory shouldve tripped forward, but instead he leaned his body and fell backwards sideways, and the ball didnt seem too far from aoi's feet when tackling so a yellow card is justified imo. a red card wouldve been deserved if kaneda tripped and not leaned his body backwards and certainly would result in him falling forward pretty hard because of how fast he was running

i watched the yellow card again and it looked like aoi touched the ball first, was it even a foul?

lol this game is intense, that kaneda is scary, i guess he isn't all talk, i thought his team did all the work and he was just there to kick, but he does some interesting stuff, like that thing he did at the side line before the goal

Kuroda getting mad at his mistake and even more annoyed cause he is in b team again

The match against Musashino has begun! Starting with Esperion knowing exactly how to stop the high press of Musashino. Just use long passes to drop the ball into the open spaces that the high press leaves on the field. Of which then Musashino adjusts by stopping such a high press and letting Esperion lull into making short passes. Those can be taken advantage of by a player like Kaneda. Whom was an absolute menace this episode, dude ripped up the field and is a crazy striker. He could easily have like three goals on how own within only the first twenty minutes of the game. Somehow maneuvering himself to get that ball away from the sideline around both Kuroda and Aoi was insane. Those two along with Togashi are carrying Esperion, the rest of their team are getting despondent already seeing how crazy good of player Kaneda is, and the Musashino captain Muto. Down a goal not even a third way through the match is a tough spot to be in for Esperion.

Nah I can't ignore the plot armor for Kaneda there. Sure he was able to keep the ball from going out for a throw-in but to kick that same ball past two people and still be able to reach the ball... It was like he was playing pass and move with himself, ridiculous stuff.

Anyway, Musashino are 1-0 up and they probably deserve it.

Ashito looked to be the last man there so if that was a foul then it should've warranted a red card. But then again, it looked like a clean tackle to me as well.

They're overreacting on every fucking play they make.. "YO, DUDE DID A FK SHORT PASS, WTF????". Anyway, seems like the animation went up in this episode, but it's still average. Man, I feel like Aoi will make some kind of play now or will cordinate his team just like that dude. He's gonna pop off.

I don't remember the exact action but it's a foul if your feet came from behind, even if it barely touches the opponent. If your feet came from behind and you make the opponent fall then it's foul and yellow card at least

It happened to me the exact same action and I got yellow card, I almost got an heart attack because I didn't see Aoi touch the ball and i thought it would be red

They cut a lot of things. If you think this is slow paced, then you're not ready to read the manga. But there is one scene that they did better than the manga. The man-mark defense Kuroda did to Kaneda is really cool! His movement is just so smooth reading Kaneda's intention with the ball.

I hope they can adapt all the panels showing the players thoughts and explaining the technical stuff more detail, but I guess they can't do it if they want to finish the anime at ch. 116. 18 more chapters for 3 episodes.

One of the biggest issues, or the real reason why enemy team caught the ball:

1)Ashito needs to make eye contact

2)Kuroda's eyes are 90% times closed

3)Ashito is confused

No wonder the enemy team caught the ball :D

As Kuroda started to open his eyes more his play got better. Jokes aside, it was a decent episode, Kaneda is a beast they need to overcome. Hopefully they figure something out.

That yellow card is sus.... maybe red... maybe not... cant know rlly cause we dont have a panoramic view of the play... Aoi really was the last man? also how far was Kiriki from them... and the position of Togashi... you cant determine the color of card just with the fault; unless its an aggresion.

So Esperion is going with the long through balls as expected. Don’t listen to Kaneda, through passes and long balls are the natural way to counter the high press and a perfectly acceptable strategy. Seems like Musashino counters this by dropping their defensive line a bit which should decongest the mid field and allow for the tiki taka passing Esperion is known for.

That #10 has some great on the fly leadership though and we’ll just have to wait and see if that strategy actually works. He deserves his goal and will probably continue to frustrate Esperion going forward.

TBH I mean if he’s gonna be THAT much of an issue…well the phrases “cleats up” and “Aim for the ankles” comes to mind…

Nice to see a breakdown of how to do 1v1 defensive tackling. They’re right that size really doesn’t matter in this regard and I personally have tackled people who have towered over me.

But Jesus has Kaneda been juicing or something? How the hell is he that fast? Like after that Meg on Kuroda it seems like he’s just straight up teleporting around the field.

Yeah I too did not think he made contact with the ball and it was bit confused why it wasn’t a straight red card. I’ll accept that he probably must have touched it a bit and it just wasn’t animated obviously enough. I think in the prem nowadays any slide tackle from behind is an automatic red card regardless of if you make contact with the ball. Emphasis on I THINK.
Maybe this Youth league just has different rules or whatever. Still a very risky tackle especially that early on in the game.

What I am not willing to accept is why this Lazy POS goalkeeper didn’t bother to come out and back his defenders up! Like look, he's still on the goal line and everything! Wtf are you doin man?

Different pov, in the manga the GK actually moving up and standing in the middle of penalty box. This is why you need bird-eye view for this situation, so it's clear where each players are positioned..

Aoi is not the last man. There is also Takeshima there in front of Kaneda. He is getting outrun, but he recovers quickly to provide cover when he saw Aoi going for a tackle.

I was hoping for more of the match to occur in this episode, but with the sudden shifts of animation and the amount of suspense that each tackle and moment of the match has had, tells me that the game will continue for several episodes. I really hope to see Aoi learn how to man-mark or to 1v1 defend in general because I believe he has too much confidence as an outside-back. Full-back is one of the most physically demanding positions and mentally draining positions on the pitch, especially when played at a high-level. Full-backs at high levels are expected to defend against the best attackers in the world 1v1 and beat them. They are also the first players to touch the ball when starting to move the ball up the field, so all attacking scenarios start with the full-back with the ball. Full-backs are also not only supposed to defend, but they are also meant to attack with the front players and provide the front-runners with crosses and through balls to get them in behind. Full-back is one of the most important positions on the soccer pitch and I hope Ao Ashi really shows us viewers that as well.
