Oh boy, Shinpei's investigation takes him deeper down the rabbit hole related to his parents. There always seemed something shady about Karikiri's presence in this anime...

Poor Ushio for getting caught in this mess....because holy shit, that attacked looked brutal. No wonder it triggered Shinpei's anger so much but he should've planned his attack better.

Well plenty of things happened, and I mean plenty.

Straight up revealing the head priest Karikiri as Shide, the main man behind every 8scheme was a surprise in itself but as if things took a halt there. Him being the person who has seen through it all since the beginning, since the time the god Hiruko-sama arrived on this island and lived through all of these years was indeed something way out of expectations.

Though it isn't like Shinpei and everyone started doubting this person recently, they were having second thoughts about him right back from the fifth loop itself. Things got confirmed when Sou's father had everyone see that one photograph and revealed how Shide made a child with Haine, which later on turned out to be an exact clone of his father, unsurprisingly. Had this thing on a repeat for the last many years and that's how he managed to live for this long.

Things were already messed up but we managed to up this by a level or two towards the end, given how straight on confronting Shide proved to be the absolute worst case. Ushio's gone and then that reaction from Shinpei pretty much summed up everything.

Turned out last episode literally was the calm before the storm, but really in all honesty we didn't need this kind of storm. Some painful seven days wait it'll be now.

Fun fact: Based on Wiki, Hiruko is the Japanese god of fishermen and luck, so that's an interesting real-life connection (though I do not know why I didn't bother to look it up earlier).

Finally, we get a full-on history of how the Shadow "sickness" came to be, its documented origins, and the source of whom Hiruko copied to get her current form: Haine. Additionally, the plot becomes more connected now in my opinion since many avenues of wonder are being cleared up. Ngl, Shinpei never ceases to amaze me with his deduction and observational skills, though I will admit that this was one of the more tamer times this has been shown.

As what has been pointed out with Tokiko as we first understood her character, it is often the quiet, reserved, and unassuming characters that return to front stage and have great impacts on the plot line when we least expect it. This time it's Karikiri, but it was rather much easier to know he was the outlier this episode since, at first glance, he puts up the façade as the more upbeat & lively character and it becomes apparent very early that he is a person of interest. Also, the MC's seem to have some beef with him, so it would be understandable human nature to question him first (and after watching this episode, I can share their distaste).

Man, there's a lot of things to unpack here, most of which isn't worth unpacking here since it would probably spoil the revelations uttered in the episode. But on the other hand, this episode had to be more on the upper limits of testing Shinpei & Ushio's patience. Let's see how things roll from here on out, especially with the additional twist that you'll get at the very end of this episode. Honestly, the constant but strategically placed plot twists is what keeps me clinging onto this series week after week. Oh well, it will be another week before we get to see the adaptation of what this "メイドインブラック" malarkey is all about.

"You really thought you could change my ending?"

Also, props to whoever did these subs; was unexpected but rather amusing

Damn this was such a packed episode. We learned how Haine came to the island, and its history.

I can't believe Shide has been pseudo-isekaiing himself. Man has been killing his own kids just to obtain a pseudo-immortality.
Man has a great punchable face

This also was quite the weird face

Oh for this episode, for some reason, the background was going crazy.

Graduated High School in May of 2022. Summer vacation has finally arrived. I have once again regained the power of a new anime fan, being able to watch multiple anime episodes in a day. Time to binge-watch every single anime I can into the night until college arrives. SADGE. SUPER SADGE... College has begun as of Monday, August 30, 2022, so you won't be seeing me much around these parks. See you on weekends, I guess... School me is back. Sigh! I'll at least try for one anime a day with all this course load.

I think maybe they will bring her back using either the eye that shinpei has, or Mio's shadow

Nahhh this episode was INSANE. I love how everything comes full circle, the shrine was the first place shinpei thought to check way back in episode 1-2 and shide ends up being the priest. The idea of Haine being from space is also very reminiscent of “the thing”

Him being Haine’s son/lover is such a weird family dynamic lmao. But man, noooo not Ushio, course she can’t be gone fr, but that whole scene was perfect. That silent pause when she got stabbed to Shinpei’s facial expressions.. just perfect.

It looks like shinpei didn’t heal after respawning this time.. wonder if it has to do with Ushio not travelling with him. what a cliffhanger to leave off on. Can’t wait for next week.

Wow I crack up so hard at the FF7 remake part but then as it kept on going it started to get really eerie and it's funny how the game shares a similar plot to the anime.

I mean, the FF7 Remake was pretty good. Though, I wish it wasn't broken into multiple parts. Waiting is horrendous.

Also, they didn't waste too much time confirming what I thought about Shide and Karikiri being the same person. Though, it looks like there might be a little more too it.

Either way, that episode went by pretty fast, but I felt like it lacked impact. Ushio, seemingly, being permanently gone should be a bigger deal. But, I'm having a hard time staying invested in the story. It's like, I know it's pretty good, but I just don't get the feels that I was getting from the first couple episodes.

The winning streak has ended.. Considering how cautious they were how to this point, I find it pretty dumb they just confronted head on Shide knowing he can kill them easily.
So this is what I expect next...
MC is going to be mentally broken again and make bad decisions, people die etc.
Somehow Ushio returns and bring him back to his senses and they win.

Each clone is pretty much a normal person who ages and dies, so it'd be like if the son looks like a splitting image of their dad, which isn't exactly supernatural especially if the two are twenty-something years apart at any given time.

I'm changing this to 10/10, lol. A clever plotted backstory that doesn't really try to force it as a mere backstory and all of them make sense to me, mind-blowing plot twists everywhere, nerve-wracking atmosphere, and the result of the situation is just masterpiece. Now almost all mysteries almost revealed, guess I don't need to worry about the plot anymore, it's handled perfectly.

Great episode! Karikiri is Shide and didn't die even after Ushio sliced his head in half...
he killed Ushio when he came back though!
Shinpei has looped again...but Ushio is not here anymore...
This episode felt so short and the facial expressions of Shinpei and Karikiri were great.

Looking forward to the next episode

This is by far the best episode yet. It's hard to really say who's at fault for this one. Shinpei had a typical talk no jutsu moment, but he did tell Ushio not to come out.

It'll be interesting to see how he handles future loops now that he's lost the most important ally he had

As soon as Ushio got stabbed, she projected something (probably off to Shinpei) and tried to say "Notice..." something.

My guess is that she either birthed a Shadow and tried to tell Shinpei to "Notice" an item on him (a watch, a shellfish..) that would transform into herself later on; or she projected her own data to some item and needs another Shadow (Mio ?) to replicate her and "birth" her again.

Other than that, to those who watched the "Daddy" subs, you're the real ones <3

JUST!! UGHH!!!! That Shide/Karakiri, the way he lived his life as a human by Haine copying his data etc.. Transfering to the child (his son's body) so he can live longer as a human instead of a shadow.
This part. So he's the one who impregnates Haine? (am I right everyone? Please tell me cause its just... And Haine is a child right yeah I mean her body.)

And that frame of Karakiri. That startled me. It's scary just replaying it.

And Ushio-chan!!!! Is she really dead!?!?! Anyways well find out next Friday again 😭😭

Ughhhhhh. What an episode. 😳😳
