Blake and Ruby facing against Negative Weiss and finding the Nightmare Grimm infesting from within, the former's battle is more of a personal grudge while the latter's is just mere prevention.

The rook relic that Ruby holds leads the sisters deeper, plus the massive usage of Shion's coins, not to mention they almost had the upper hand against Negative Weiss whom refuses to give in to her Nightmare self, the action is intense...but the animation is already showing signs of degradation blending 2D and 3DCG, plus the many different scene cuts. This unfortunately, also means that Team RWBY (minus Weiss) will need a better plan confronting the Ice Princess while Shion Zaiden's Aura needs time to recover.

Back into Beacon Academy, the trio's sharing to Team JNPR, Sun and Penny leaves speculations, many from their own experiences. The best plan to act counterintuitive against Weiss and involve Team JNPR on this (with Jaune being the closest experience towards the Nightmare), this parasitic dream, hopefully it'll reap better results.

Another relic, and another chance to save Weiss in the dream. Failing to do so, Weiss will be gone forever. Time for a restart.

I really thought they would have saved Weiss by the end of this episode. Getting team JNPR involved is pretty cool. I feel like there's no way they will drag out this Weiss nightmare arc for 6 more episodes tho. I mean maybe but idk... Curious as to where the rest of the season will go if not.

It's not surprising, but it's a shame they couldn't keep up the level of fight animation from ep 1. There were some sneaky 3D models used in some of the short sequences.

That 3d animation of the girls fighting or just standing up, did not blend well. Otherwise I appreciate the story they're trying to tell so far. Getting JNPR involved with the plans made sense. They also bring in an outside interpretation of Weiss's dreams. This is a series of more or less cool ideas but poor execution, in the directing and animation department.

Not entirely 2D this time but well I'm not concerned about that. I really hope this dream thing doesn't go on for the rest of the episodes.

Now they're making the fights CG, but this episode actually felt like it's made by Shaft for once so I don't really know whether to be disappointed or not lol.

Best episode yet

I really like what they are doing with all of the characters, did not expect to see more Penny and Sun after the nightmare plot was introduced and really enjoyed Weiss's conflicted feeling towards Ruby, Yang and Blake and how each of them is trying to understand her in a different way.

The team JNPR interactions were great and i really did not expect Jaune to join them in the nightmare, but interested to see how he interacts with the Dream Pyrra, Ren and Norrah.

The doorway to weiss's heart being an snake eating its own tail(ouroboros, renewal and death, eternity, infinity) being partially obscured by a veil could symbolize how weiss's sees her existence being an eternity of being hidden, and the inside with the nightmare being inside of a theater similar to the white trailer, could symbolize how weiss fears that she will die being something others only appreciated superficially for things like her looks and voice but not for what she actually is.

Love the nightmare design, the coffin surrounded by thorns with an empty dress hovering over it is sick, and the dress being empty implies that she thinks no one sees the real weiss, only the pretty parts that are on the stage.

Some frames in the fights are a bit wonky but most of the choreo is pretty fluid, i just hope we still have more fight scenes of the same quality like Ruby versus the robers and weiss against the armor gigas, love the fact that weiss can summon grimm in the nightmare.

Who directed this episode? This actually finally felt it's made by fucking Shaft

EDIT: It's directed by Madoka's Director and Fire Force's Director (which was like the reason why Fire Force S1 looked so Shaft-y)

I liked it because the episode shows that Ruby and Yang finally find the grimm but Weiss is protecting him and the only way to end him is to face the negative Weiss in order to get to him

This episode has been outsourced to Yokohama Animation Lab, but this episode has been directed by Yukihiro Miyamoto and storyboarded by Yuuki Yase. That’s why this episode felt very shafty without being made Studio Shaft

Nice analysis!

I'm guessing they'll save Weiss within the next couple of episodes, then spend the last couple episodes dealing with Ruby's dream given how she got cut this episode.

So close but not yet, it seems. At least Team JNPR will be playing a role as well so I don't have to worry about them being under-utilized.

That's why it had to those gorgeous face closeups. Probably the main animators are busy with important episodes, that's why it had to be outsourced. Still I couldn't guess it wasn't animated by Shaft.

The entire appeal of this was that it was RWBY but without dogshit CGI. This episode looked fucking awful. I seriously hope this is a one off.

Meh, another 2/5 episode. It's not completely horrible to deserve a 1/5 but goddamn, this shit is boring as fuck and a 2/5 is what this episode deserves, it had bad animation in a couple of scenes as well. Apparently, most of the budget went for the 1st episode as that's the one with better animation.

So this anime IMHO, has a boring, mediocre story with mediocre music and mediocre action scenes, at least the OG RWBY has awesome action scenes to make up for it but this anime is simply not cutting it.

I've been shitting on this anime in all the episodes so far, goddamn I want to see just one single good episode to praise something in it, as of now, I can't find a single thing to praise in this piece of crap.

how can this lame show be in the top 10 of anitrendz? seriously fans have a little more objective critique and less confirmation bias! the story is boring, the animation doesn't quite cut it,
and in this episode the6 force fan service cameos of all secondary characters.

it's bad just accept it.

This was I was worried about. Prolonging the things newcomers don't want. I could see Urobuchi doing this much faster in 8 episodes, but his decision in doing a recap was the biggest issue.

The rest of the episodes will definitely involve just team rwby and jaune in the dream until they get Weiss out.
Doing it the fourth time doesn't make sense since Weiss will "lose her life". Not much was at stake in the first 2 episodes because it was reconnaissance and a 2nd attempt.
Now, Weiss' life is near its end (so to speak).

I knew I was gonna see the 3DCG sooner or later. And they're using it in fight scenes. It's better if the characters are just too far away (or too small to draw them).
Pacing is normal, nothing was moving too fast. It's just the narrative structure is too small, taking up all the spaces that could've been used for a story with a larger structure.

Let's see where they go from here.

I'm already someone who watched the originals (only first 4 seasons). I currently enjoy this storyline. What I like is, things play out logically. Also I like the anime characterization of RWBY members so far, it's like how I imagined them to be if RWBY was made in Japan. I was prejudged at first, but now I like their anime characterization way better.

Also to newcomers their bond could be out of nowhere, but to me who watched the original, their bond feels okay.

I really hope at least some of the remaining episodes have the same director. This episode was exactly what I've been wanting to see ever since learning Shaft were adapting RWBY. The first 5 were enjoyable enough but didn't really do much to justify the remake. This finally stamped its own style on things and it was perfect.

They have to save Weiss next episode or else it's gonna feel like it's dragged. Must be tough for Pyrrha to see the guy she likes is doing so much for another girl.

I don't like how the chess piece casually shows the girls where to go. No explanation whatsoever. "Please bring us to Weiss!" and so the chess piece shows. How convenient.

They finally use noticeable cgi this time. The models are very bland, and they stick out like a sore thumb. This might meant they're saving their budget for the next episode (hopefully) an ending to Weiss' nightmare arc.

I liked the episode, but man I didnt expect this anime to be completely about being in Weiss' dream. Would not be surprised if it doesnt conclude in 1 episode, but Ill enjoy it nevertheless. Probably, better not jynx it 😅

It feels like the format of the show evolves with each episode, this one had a lot more sitting and talking, but the dialogue wasn't overbearing, and with all the iconic shaft close up facial expressions, fidgets and head tilts it really felt like watching a monogatari episode.
