Title is pretty much self explanatory.

There's hardly any references or settings to Canada in anime but the few that do seem to have BL undertones or is very subtle when referring to it and usually they'll just name the city only rather than even bring up the country, Canada, unlike the US where they'll point it out as America or whatever and the US gets a lot more recognition.

Coming from Germany I can say pretty much all of them.

No, we are not all blonde with blue eyes. No, we are not all named Hans and Reiner. And no, we don't all live in a Fachwerkhaus.

I'm not mad that they represent us like that but it's just not very realistic either.

I don't think the references to Nicaragua are bad, but in both Blood+ and Monster, Nicaragua was mentioned about the civil war it had in the second half of the 20th Century.

That Americans are all white and look like Germans. They should be more realistic. Americans are fat, deranged, and toxic af.

Even though I've never lived in Europe, I can see that the Andorran characters in Yume-iro Patissiere conform to exceedingly silly Spanish stereotypes.

not a 'nation' but the representation of black people has always been ugly in anime aside from a few examples.

My own nation (Poland) was not very much presented, mainly it is represented as Slavic culture characters mainly surprise-surprise russia, who would guess.

So far from all Polish characters ( I don't know that much about slavic characters in anime as I don't have them archivised -> Yes I have a notebook file on pc with all polish characters from anime x) ) which I've seen personally most of them has blonde/white hairs and from the anime I've seen and remember how those characters look like you can check on your own -> Edelman, Active Raid; Rico Brzeńska, Attack on Titan; Monika Kruszewska (Krushevsky), Code Geass and Natalia Kamińska (Natalie Kaminski), Fate/Zero Are the examples of what a typical Polish character look like in anime, there are some exceptions such as Igor Neuhaus from Ao no exorcist or Zelman Clock from kekkai sensen who don't have blonde/white hairs.
And the bad representation here is the fact that actually I don't think the majority of polish people are blonde, there wasn't a single Kurwa said which is very used (as other slurs).

And there is not enough of alcohol (Vodka or Beer) represented with them x(. Btw Girls Frontline have also nice characters representing Polish weapons (btw Zieliński is born at city where I am living right now and studying x) ) ->
https://iopwiki.com/wiki/wz.29 https://iopwiki.com/wiki/UKM-2000 https://iopwiki.com/wiki/PM-06 https://iopwiki.com/wiki/Zielinski https://iopwiki.com/wiki/Uhlan

Outside fanarts I would be quite happy to see some war/ww2 or other fictional anime stuff representing more polish characters that would be very interesting, no matter if that would ba very good representation or a bad one.

Not the worst, but weirdest. I mean, in Sengoku Collection you can see some random Finnish words here and there.

And the same thing happened in Escha Chron.

I was pretty confused when I saw these.

From the Anime I've seen - don't think I've ever seen my country being represented in anyway other than it being mentioned a couple of times, that's about it.

Can't have a bad representation if you aren't represented at all !

That character with Chinese ethnicity (regardless from China, Hong Kong or Taiwan) has to be associated with Kungfu, Baozi and maybe Qipao. Plus that some anime use Chinese characters by random and incorrectly to show someone is Chinese. I know Japanese uses Kanji which is similar to Chinese characters, but they differ a lot sometimes.

I can't think of any bad representations of americans in anime. Most commonly, we're depicted as vulgar and rude and swearing constantly. Which is pretty accurate...for New York and California.
My waifu is the most wonderful waifu. Mai Valentine.

We're freaking out that we're running out of time, but to do what? Should i stop and think of that? Is there something i could do to slow it down? Live in a day for once, instead of watch it sprinting by

Never remember being bothered by this, honestly. Sometimes anime uses gratuitous German words in terrible ways and I find that kinda dumb. Kill la Kill did a whole song in German that I didn't know was sung in German until I read about it, because the pronunciation was unintelligible.

I sometimes see Chinese characters with exaggerated physical features, so that they can be easily distinguished from Japanese characters. The Chinese chef seems to be almost as common a stereotype as the Chinese martial artist. Chuuka Ichiban is a whole series that revolves around cooking in China. The Chinese character in Cyborg 009 is also a chef.

I still haven't watched an anime with any references to either North or South Korea. Maybe Japanese people are too guilty of what they did to them

As a British Citizen, UK tends to be portrayed pretty respectfully in anime, probably more so than a lot of American media in fact. We Brits are often stereotyped in US media has having weird accents, bad teeth, being obsessed with tea and having strange names for our pubs. Just look at this for example: https://youtu.be/l_QaROZPtV0

I haven’t seen much of that stereotype being present in anime.

None, in fact it's funny when the Japanese exploit some stereotypes and references about Venezuela.

Canada I don't think gets represented bad. If anything like that anime travel ad Canada looks better there than in reality lol. Iron Blood Orphans also largely made Edmonton look right.

Hetalia's rep of Canada though is kinda stupid. I get the overly nice or wimpy stereotype exists in the modern day but honestly through our history we tended to be really over defensive of our autonomy both when we were within the empire with Britain and the United States.

It's fantasy but Yona of the Dawn is basically fantasy medieval Korea.

If they base them off the southern states the chars would be crazy, uneducated bigots, and if they based off the midwest folks they'll be overweight and boring. Utah and the bible belt would add religious zealots, Colorado would add some stereotypical potheads. Such a strange country we are.

Tbh, I don't know of any notable references to Texas in anime.
