It feels so weird to have a Christmas episode in March. That aside, congratulations on Nishikata finally getting a few wins under his belt, even if it took Takagi intentionally acting like an airhead to make it happen.

Takagi in a Santa outfit?! Nishikata has some excellent dream sequences, that's for sure! X3

The build up for their "date" to the cinema has been worth it as this episode pretty much matches the excellent stage play episode a few weeks ago. Nishikata is still the king of embarrassing himself in front of Takagi, mainly at how crane game, but Takagi was able to secure the top prize and was kind enough to give it to him.

Their interactions while watching the movie was super cute and I couldn't help but smile at seeing Nishikata sobbing away after the movie ended. XD

The stand out moment of the episode was after they left the cinema and went to wards the square where the Christmas tree was, where it started snowing and they both gave each other their presents. As I said before, a lot of things has been building up for this moment and it was absolutely worth it. I pretty much had a permanent smile while watching the two unwrapping each other's presents. It was so wholesome!

As an added bonus, the ED song for this episode was Takagi's VA singing Santa Claus Is Coming to Town, which was pretty good and cute. Same goes for the animated scenes alongside the credits, too.

Only 3 episodes remain and I want to see if any of them cam match or even top this episode. ^_^

Man, this episode had me emotional. I feel like seasons 1 and 2 were wholesome, yes, but it always just felt like random things happening. This season (besides the odd bits in the first two episodes) has in my opinion been the best so far, and this was the best episode, followed closely by the play to episodes ago.

This episode was an absolute treat to watch!!

It is so nice to see Nishtaka finally starting to consider and become more aware of his feelings towards Takagi, the anime feels like it is moving faster than the actual manga at this point and I am all for it ( ̄З ̄)

Very much looking forwards to episode 10!!

The thin line between a friendly meeting and a romantic date was really blurry in this episode... to our amusement! A Christmas episode is not something I was expecting to see in March, but I have no complaints at all.

STOPPPP THAT WAS S????SOOOO CUTE ??? START TO FINISH. oh my god y'all that was not a pretend couple thing it was a DATE date no way can anyone even try to deny that. takagi teasing nishikata's feelings as she should. mf is so dense bro

i like how they didn't even try having a third party teasing them bit. something like "yoo wtf nishikata are you going on a date with takagi??" or "wow you guys are such a cute couple" usually those are thrown to make the characters flustered n stuff but they didnt need that here. every goddamn moment is already full of it

nishikata being so emotional over this shoujo movie lol, and takagi-san just letting him enjoy that moment not making fun of him. so nice

that gift exchange part thooooo omfgggg NISHIKATA, ATTABOY!!!

fav ep. even more so than the school festival one. fav eppppp out of the whole 3 seasons until now

plus takahashi rie singing santa claus is coming to town? i won

That Christmas date was very cute and Lovely. btw, Their dating location seemed to be Kurashiki.

You're right, it's clearly Kurashiki (You can recognize the clock tower between the JR station and the Arlo Mall, the mall and the walk in the Bikan historical quarter).

Another great episode for the season 3!

Another great episode!

The fact that both of them had a gift to give each other is really something to notice. And maybe there weren't more perfect gifts than these ones... the gloves hold Takagi's hand like in Summer Festival while the scarf embraces Nishikata like in episode 5 (Fishing).

They're getting closer than ever and their feelings are becoming more and more reciprocal...

It's telling that even when the episode is just starting, I'm already getting flustered so hard....that was just the start of it.

It's Christmas (10 weeks deep since) and Takagi and Nishikata are on a movie date hangout. Not many people realize that they actually live on an island inside the Seto Inland Sea, but eh it's anime. Wow it's been a while since I watched Mugen Train (the recent movie I watched on a cinema), so it's somehow nostalgic seeing how the two of them go about to watch the movie. And of course it's Nishikata's favorite 100% Unrequited Love, and something happened.

I was so confused why Takagi is acting weird, but that's because she is acting....as a basic female shoujo lead (pretty weird to say that). And damn to give our boy some confidence boost by winning 2 back-to-back, I guess that's a way to do it. But the best scene is of course them exchanging gifts, aww what a sweetener. Also uhm when Takagi is giving her gift to Nishikata, just imagine it's Rie Takahashi saying to us "Merry Christmas" while also giving us a gift, that was a nice imagination.

What am I saying, this is once again a very cute Takagi episode, and another highlight for Rieri as she sang "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town", and in such a very good pronunciation. Cherry on top!

For someone barely having to embrace so much of emotional moment from a show or movie, this episode hits me really well to the point where I started biting my thumb out of the cuteness, lol. Really, they're doing pretty nice road to build the story in this episode up to the climax.

When they give each others the Christmas gift, it's really wholesome, and they're really playing the Audiovisual really well, like the music plays mixed well with the scene. Props.

Another good thing worth mentioning is of course the ending song. Rieri just exceeds the limit again, as well as showing that they truly put great love into the show considering every episode has its own unique Ed song.

Date episode to see the 100% Unrequited Love film was 100% pure wholesomeness. Nishikata still clearly embarrassed, but honestly cares about Takagi. Getting her a present from paying attention to her day to day, the thank you card, and being concerned when she was playing Junko and acting different.

Was rather funny when the film credits came up and actually showed the main characters being voiced by the same people as Nishikata and Takagi.

The music as always was totally on point for the emotional scenes and Takahashi Rei (as Takagi) singing Japanese 'Santa Claus is coming to town' was cute as hell :3

Oh my g0sh we finally get to see the golden hoop thingie from the promotional image. I was wondering if that'd make an appearance in this season. Does anyone know if the ferry docking place is based on a real location in Japan? And if the golden statue is real?

I also really wanna take a ferry and then walk through a business district like that. Looked like a pretty cool mall they were walking through, and cinema. Japan cities are seriously the coolest. So much to do and everything is so accessible, since everyone is on foot rather than by car.

Anyway, cool episode. I've noticed this season has been a lot more ambitious. After what has seemed like hundreds of little classroom games and challenges, it seems like the story's ante has been upped.

When she said "I really did want you to think I was cute" straight to Nishikata's face, she didn't make any attempts to feign it as a "tease" or obscure what she was saying. Takagi does seem to be making her feelings a bit more obvious, as of late.

But at this point, I don't think either of the two would even be capable of finding another person to date, since they virtually spend ALL their free time together. They might as well be dating lol.

Was the city they went to Takamatsu? Or did they go to Okayama?

This series is set in the town of Tonosho, Kagawa.

Edit2: After some digging, I've found that Shikoku Ferry operates the ferry route to Okayama. Takagi and Nishitaka took that ferry in the show.

I LOVED THE EPISODE.
It was beautiful. It was Christmas and they went to the movies to see the 100% unrequited love movie.
The whole episode was funny and very cute, and the end part very precious.
And the ending song, good choice that it was "Santa Claus Is Comin'to Town".

I'm back to this forum again. I just had a realization. In retrospect, this was a very different episode. I couldn't put my finger on it, but it just FELT strange, and not because it had a seasonal theme. And then I realized...

This episode isn't divided into segments. It's just one long cohesive date, from start to end. I was browsing the episode listing on Wikipedia and realized this one was simply titled "Christmas", unlike the other episodes which are split into 3+ uniquely named segments.

Is this a taste of what the movie will be like?

I've been saying it on the forums a lot, but this season has been quite ambitious and experimental. Usually, when shows depart from their initial ideas and try to one-up themselves, it starts to lose its charm. But the more extravagant this series gets, the more entertaining it is.
This season has been the best yet -- and, as far as its own genre and realm (slice-of-life, romance?, comedy?), I'd say it's close to a 10/10, which I don't say often.

So the cover pic for this season is from this episode.

Takagi played Nishikata again lol. She should have also said "Squeee!" to nail the performance.

This show is so fucking wholesome and cute idk what else to say.

The OST was really good.

I'm assuming you were answering my question -- because that's what you did, you answered my exact question lol. I assume so because my post directly proceeds yours. Buuut, you could've also just started researching the ferry route of your own volition without regard to my forum post, and this is all just a total coincidence.

Whatever the case, I wasn't tagged and I only came upon this information via accidentally re-visiting this forum.

Yes, so the statue is called the "Gift of the Sun" (by Shodoshima), found on the Tonosho Port in Kagawa, where the show indeed takes place. (How cool is that? What if an anime literally took place in your town.)

And I DID think the statue in the promotional image seemed too specific to be fictional...

To think this entire time they've been living on a puny island, which is almost landlocked by the island of Japan itself -- and that they have to take a ferry to get to the mainland. Cool place for a setting.

I wonder if the cinema they visited is based on a real place in Okayama too.
