As you may know that Komi san first episode aired on Netflix today.
But there's a major issue with official subs . They didn't even put effort to translate the text on the board which is important for the series like Komi san because it's a series about Communication disorder so people who don't understand Japanese won't even understand the jokes and stuff which are highlighted in text.
Tl-dr: See the tweet you will understand the difference b/w official sub and fan sub

It's Netflix bro, did you really expect a professional translation?
Amazon Prime Translations are even worse to be honest, but Netflix translations have never been of a high standard anyway.

Still tho . I mean first off all you are 2 weeks behind the original schedule of anime and now you don't give proper subtitles so people can Understand. Then why would people watch it in legal way if fansubs are better than official subs .

It's not about manga readers but it's about the effort they put while in making subtitles .

Yeah lol that was true. But in that way no one will watch it legally for sure if subtitles are like this through entire series.

Fan sub did much better. They translated most of the things properly.

Despite the subs are better IMO, they need to translate everything even if it’s not important. And of course they don’t bother making subs for stuff thats important like that writing.

Oh sure, blame the manga readers for only wanting the licensor to do at least a decent damn job on subbing the series that relies heavily on text on screen and was put in jail for two weeks.

That’s why I say … just read da manga bro
If you are from South East Asia, then I request you, when you will start an anime, you search if it is available on Muse Asia and Ani-one Asia, before looking through piracy websites

Except that for this series, it’s much more of a problem than it normally is.

Actually I just watched and it was fine lol. I’m a manga reader and it’s not like they left vital parts of the plot without translation.

ah yes finally people talk about this, its very bad since episode 1, the sub is absolutely horible.

they very lazy to translate everything, even the same as LAZY MTL translations.

glad im not the only one.

seriously netflix you have 1 job, a fansub better than bilion dollar official website is heresy.

even muse ASIA have better job doing subtitle with their anime than netflix is surprising.

To be honest I don't know if I can blame Netflix. Most of their shows are made in the US where all written text is in English. So their video player isn't designed to play subtitles with all those masks and subtitles with custom positions. Most likely it doesn't even support custom colors. So the only option I see is they have to ask studios to do English text in anime or they have to change their video player which supports ".ass" format subtitles.

i don't think it's their player, it's that they just didn't do it. editing frame by frame all those shots on the blackboard while those two were writing so furiously would HAVE to be damned expensive to pay somebody to do it.

there's 3 angles of approach to subbing on-screen text.
#1 you blank out ALL the 'foreign language text' with the background color, like the blackboard, THEN you write the translation in that exact same spot.

#2 you offset a translation to the SIDE/ABOVE/BELOW somewhere around that 'foreign language text' upon the background of wherever you're setting the text.

if there's no room in-frame for #2? you'll HAVE to do #1. OR #3!

some of the shots and angles of that blackboard scene are of the two of them 'physically writing' the kanji... AND no shot is done of the finished sentence/statement. all you get is what they were actively writing.

how do you subtitle that shot/angle? you don't. you put it at the bottom of the screen as in

#3 you put the whole crapton of stuff at the bottom of the screen. then, you hope your viewers can tell which is which by you putting ' around words ' on the board and otherwise differentiating internal monologue text, and actual spoken word text.

see how complicated that one single scene is?

as i said before, i think that NETFLIX just didn't do it. not that their player CAN'T do it.

Sentai Filmworks was nigh on INFAMOUS for almost 20 years... for their craptastical treatment of on-screen kanji translations. :/ having NETFLIX screw one up? shrug. try two decades worth of crappy work. :>
just an ol school American otaku enjoyin the life. don't sass me kiddies, i've been otaku probably since before you were born. leave me in peace and i won't bother you either.

They don’t have the software apparently to be able to move text . Not the translators fault
