Blue Period
| I haven't read the manga but I'm really getting Sangatsu no Lion vibes from this. Regardless, this still looks very promising and I'll read the manga eventually, maybe once the anime finishes airing. |

| nope, i think it might be more cheerful than sangatsu but also depressing in a different way. maybe it's more similar to HachiClo since it also revolves towards art |

But after reading this it made things a bit clear, I'll still be watching this though. Thank you for the answers |

| It’s more like a coming-of-age & MC’s struggles are very much revolving around his journey as a budding artist & sense & discovery of self. His struggles are very, very humbling, especially so if you were an art student yourself, so relatable, it hit me so hard so many times. I love the mangaಥ﹏ಥ I agree with the comparison that it would be more like hachiclo if they went the same melancholic route, but then again, there’s no romance in this. It really is a journey of self, just like Takemoto’s, but this is really art focused, of course with perspectives from his friends, like Koi-chan♡♡ |

| According to MangaUpdates, the Blue Period manga was nothing more than a glorified tobacco advertisement, which is something that I would never watch. I have no idea if the anime is going to be like that. |

The manga is a pretty beautiful interrogation of what art means in Japanese society, where so much is about results, which is difficult when it comes to qualify what exactly "great art" is. The characters are real, their struggles are given life, and it's a very era appropriate series in terms of how the characters live their lives. The smoking thing is just an occasional theme that relates to the main characters own listlessness. If anything, there's a strong theme that smoking is nothing more than self harm. |

Not all seinen contains things that I find offensive, but a very large chunk of it does. |

| Not really. But then again, it is not as boring as Sangatsu no Lion. The drama writing is a little shaky and feels a little tryhard at times imo. |

| I haven't checked Sangatsu yet, but if my I guess is that if it's like Blue Period, that despite being about art (and sports in Sangatsu I guess?) it's mainly about the MC struggling over his own competence, abilities, self worth, relationships, place in the world, etc., I suppose they are a lot alike. |
