I seen so many people say the joint training arc is the worst arc of the series and while still I think it's a bad arc I would rather watch this arc than the Festival arc. At least the training arc had a few decent fights. Literally the only redeeming quality of the Festival arc is the concert scene and nothing else.

Let's not forget that Deku learned air force and a new perspective on the hero world by putting his upbringing into hindsight, Bakugou learning to be more of a team player, and once Eri smiled the Overhaul operation was truly complete.

I actually prefer the festival one but this is definitely a fair opinion. I can't disagree a whole lot

I prefer the festival one because gentle and la Bravia were cool characters, and since it came after the overhaul arc I didn’t rly care because it was just a cooldown arc after a rly intense one.

It's boring vs boring. I found the training one to be slightly more boring. But I do understand if some people were more bored by the festival one.

The festival arc is my favorite we learn something about bakugou (he can play
The drums or as I now call them explosion instrument). And it gave my oc a major turning point (but you guys don’t care about my oc.) oh abs I like this arc too because I like to watch it I just like everything you put in my face.

I kind of liked both arcs. Festival wasn’t great, but Gentle battle was good, and the vs. battle showed improvements with the characters. Only the first 2 battles were poor. After that, I liked it.

Festival is fine, if you take out gentle and la brava that is, who I didn’t give a crap about one bit. 1A vs 1B is ok, it kinda moves at a slow pace which is an issue.

I personally didn't think this arc was bad, we got a lot of shine from the characters, our favorite characters got moments we wanted/needed, i'd argue this is the best arc.

Even if the School Festival Arc was worse, at least the season didn't open with it. It was also half the length of the Joint Training Arc. Also, we've had a lot of training arcs already.

Edit: I liked the School Festival arc better.

Gentle and La Bravo was so good in the manga but in the anime I felt like something was missing. It’s a shame that in all the popularity polls neither Gentle nor La Brava made in the top 50. Gentle who moved without thinking just like Deku destroyed his entire life. La Brava who’s quirk counseling makes her fall deeply in love with people she hardly even knows. Gentle is gentle compassionate person who got caught up with societal propaganda to be a hero and become famous, accepts La Brava and even the sweet touches with a marker to give him raccoon eyes to make him look like La Brava. Gentle and La Brava is absolutely a master class couple that is simply not appreciated by this genre. They really resonated with me. The fight with Deku was so heavily influenced by emotions. In one fan translation from Gentle: “If you want to achieve your own dreams you must bare the burden of shattering another person’s dreams.” It’s very deep especially when it comes to sports or competition for a promotion. Which is why Deku really meant it when he said this was his hardest fight of all. Because he really connected with Gentle over the fact he could have been just like him if he didn’t have the support he had and the luck he processed. Overall, I enjoyed both these arcs but they are dwarfed by the hellacious villain academia arc.

True the festival arc was fine for the most part.Especially considering the fact that we have had 3.5 seasons at that point of something bad happening and for once letting our characters relax a bit.
The first two battles of this arc literally just explained every action in detail for no reason that it felt like the battles dragged. it was just boring but thankfully in the 3rd battle and onwards the issue was fixed for what MHA is actually known for.Its use of battles for both visual and mostly emotional storytelling.

You're forgetting that this is an anime about attending a school to become heroes tho, there's bound to be a lot of training arcs

That's true and I agree that there's bound to be a lot of training arc.

I understand that apart from OFA focus the goal is to showcase the growth of the characters and familiarise us with the abilities of 1B. However, the pacing could be better, don't you think? Especially the initial matches.

For me, it's less about it being a training arc and more about the placement and pace. The manga chapters are usually released regularly without long breaks. Whatever the placement of the arc chapters might be in the manga, a new season of anime should begin with a punch. There are long gaps between the anime seasons and people wait for them with anticipation. There are also limited episodes in a season. I believe that if the opening arc of a season isn't strong or impactful enough, it should at least be dealt with fast.

I never expected this opinion to come from you at all.Just because school festival arc doesn't had any fights it is automatically a bad arc?If you are invested with the characters and the story you'll like the arc but seems like you probably don't.People don't blindly hate the arc. There are legit understandable reasons for why this arc is so hated.
-Most of the characters aren't even relevant in the future arcs at all and half of 1 A barely got even development and out of nowhere Hori started introducing Class 1-B which is bullshit. The only purpose for this arc to exist is so we start "caring" for 1-B characters but it failed miserably.
-There is literally no stakes or threats in this fight at all.
-Hori did a very poor job in introducing class 1 B.Sure, the powers were very interesting and unique than class 1 B.This arc feels like they were mainly introduced just to showcase their powers. There were literally no character developments from 1-B at all.
-Shinso was supposed to be as a hindrance to them and this is his first time but somehow this arc made it feel like he's already experienced in doing hero stuff which is also bullshit. There was no tension from him during the fight at all.
-And most important of all this arc barely has any relevancy for the future arcs except for the final and Bakugou's fight.
This thread itself is pointless as you gave no points about either of the arcs at all.

We all obviously know this is set in school. You are also forgetting that this is a shounen battle and not a slice of life. This anime had expectations to be the next Naruto, etc, etc but every season we just had uninspired training arcs.At least he could've make the training more interesting.By adding more strategies on how to improve quirk but in season 3 they were doing the same bullshit over and over again.

I like the festival arc, Gentle vs Deku is still one of the best fights in MHA(specially on the Manga, the author paneling was on point on this fight) and I enjoy the idea of having an minor arc focusing around the characters having a peaceful time.

the current arc is mostly filler in my opinion, but it has some good action amd Im a sucker for tournament arcs so I dont mind it

No, it wasn't. The school festival wasn't great but we got Gentle Criminal and a great live performance out of it. This arc is boring, pedantic, and pointless, not to mention padded with flashbacks of scenes that happened earlier in the same episode or the last episode.

I really liked both arcs. The festival arc was really nice bc everything was so chill and happy and everything. It also made me happy and i think it's nice to see how the charakters interact with each other. But also the Class 1-A vs Class 1-B arc was pretty cool bc you could see how they improved their quirks and you can get to know the other quirks or charakters which was pretty nice too.

I don't think there's one better than the other; they are both equally boring and longer than they should. I get the purpose of them cuz we get to know important details and such but the fact that these arcs carry over so long (long enough to be considered arcs) is the main problem Ksdndje

A widely controversial opinion at best. Personally, I like the School Festival arc because of La Brava and Gentle, they're cool villains...aside from the whole cliche kinda thing, but Eri got some good screentime.

The inter-class "battle" is a STOPGAP at best.

Why you gotta do my man Gentle dirty like that...

I thought the school festival stuff was boring as fuck and Eri should rewind herself out of the series, but Gentle & La Brava carried the arc hard for me. I'm probably the minority but those two are some of my favorite villains in the whole show.

Joint Training arc was...alright. I always appreciate more Shinso screen time and it was cool to meet the rest of 1-B, even if they're pretty irrelevant in the big picture. Worst thing in the Joint Training arc for me is the introduction of the shittiest plot point (well, second shittiest after Eri's quirk lmao).

When I read this arc, I liked it much more than watching it. They keep putting in scenes from previous episodes that have already happened. It feels like filler when they do that.

Both were pretty boring, though I will agree the festival arc was even worse and the reason why I had season 4 dropped for almost a year after episode 15 since I didn’t care for it.

The problem for most is that it’s a really boring way to start the season, and I don’t blame them since it introduced a bunch of characters we don’t care for and probably won’t see much of later on along side with it lasting longer than the festival arc.

If the training arc was paced faster I doubt it’d be hated as much overall, but the episodes are quite a snooze fest besides a couple exceptions imo.

Joint training made me nearly drop the manga and it's the reason why I decided to watch this season not week by week but binge it at the end.

I actually liked school festival, not my favorite arc but better then this.

Maybe the anime version is better, I cant tell.
