Am I the only one who thinks this episode was Fuking Amazing, probably one of the best episodes of Season 2 part 2. Mann the dialouges and all the mysteries blows my Mind. 11/10. I feel bad for people who found this episode Mid because they find it slow and they don't get to see much action.

Then drop it, if you need more high action to stimulate you, then you have your battle shounens to fill the void.

That kiss came out of nowhere and made me feel a little uncomfortable. Sucking mana through kissing, where have I seen that before, haha.

Again, slow paced episode. The pacing for this arc really kills a lot of enjoyment for me. This episode had some great dialogue and some hard hitting emotional moments, which would have been amazing had I not been thinking the entire episode "this season really needs to get moving". This episode was pretty much half a flashback and then the second half was conversation between Subaru and Roswaal. This arc has had more standing around and talking than the Monogatari series, which says a lot.

The flashback was well done and showed us more of Beatrice and her connections to the other characters in the past, and really fleshed out a few characters who desperately needed the development. It also gave us the much needed backstory of the origin of the sanctuary. The conversation between Subaru and Roswaal definitely could have and should have been shortened, but the overall deeper themes within their arguments was valid and stayed true to their characters, though in the end, it sort of just seemed like a waste of time.

In short, this wasn't one of my favorite episodes of this season, but that may just be due to the overall pacing of the arc. I liked the first half of the episode more than the second half. I really hope that the pacing takes a shift into high gear in the remaining episodes.

Considering the Ichigo pfp, it's a bit ironic complaining about short pacing lol, but then again bleach is filled with heavy action? so?

in any case, if you took a critical approach towards the writing, you would have noticed, if any case, this season is incredibly fast paced, the need for 29-minute episodes came for a reason, and even in that case, it's not enough at all, considering in-depth characterization, inner monologues and plot details that have been cut out due to time constraints.

Agree, this season is starting to drag a bit. Exposition after exposition, and it feels like we've been in the Sanctuary forever. Can't even remember the last time we saw the castle.

I'm getting annoyed at all the people complaining this season is "dragging" they're making it out to be like Re:Zero Season 2 is the 2nd coming of Chimera Ant arc or some shit, like seriously... there are shonen arcs that last for forever while a 25 episode arc of Re:Zero is "dragged"? Get tf out of here.

Ikr it's like 4 eps of flashback and they're already acting crazy while hundreds of series have 20+ eps of filler

Alright Echidna, you really kissed young Roswaal? That was a huge surprise element for me. ED is finally here and it's good.

Don't make it seem like a Romantic KISS . Echidna was just trying to save Ros-chii by sucking his mana out.

This episode is okay-ish, the pacing is definitely not that good. They make Hector less menacing and instead focusing on longgg dialogues between beatrice and shima.

Having to wait one week with this slow pace is killing me :( the last scene were pretty great tho, the rivalry between roswaal and Subaru. I just hope for the rest of episode they will make the fight scene look more polished and impactful.

Maybe the relationship between the kremaldy team must be established instead of focusing on the Hector fight? Because they did a fantastic job at prioritizing what's really important.

Bad episode. Who in the hell would argue so passionately about feelings? It's like they aren't men, but children throwing a tantrum. Feelings do nothing, it's actions that matter. Which leads us to why would Subaru go back again trying to get Roswaal to concede even though he hadn't really accomplished much? The writing for this episode is horrible. It lacks believability.

The one thing i was always curious about in Re 0 is the past of the sanctuary and how roswaal and Echidna (my 2 fav chars) entagle in it , but this ep honestly had the weakest first half of all so far.
Look what they did to my girl .....They started off with Echidna literally french kissing the shit outta him and contuinuing to use her as a damn symbol and a mere prescence to progress the backstory which i heavily despised. Honestly could'nt feel a shit about ryuzu ancestor or beatrice , that scene felt so flat.
If not for Roswaal's appreciatable speech in the second half this ep would've just become my least fav of all.

P.s: I badly want Roswaal to win this bout .

It's showing Echidna from Roswaal's perspective the point of it was to show his heavily one-sided infatuation with her with Echidna clearly being manipulative/dominant over Roswaal even when she was kissing him and not returning the same amount of love Roswaal has for her (although she does seem to care about his well-being to some extent), along with her motherly relationship with Beatrice. This episode did not diminish Echidna's character at all but in fact enhances both her's and Roswaal's.

Yeah didn't really care about Ryuzu and Beatrice either I agree with that

Damn, the ED is just beautiful! I've been hooked to the song for a while, especially, for the past two weeks so being rewarded with quality visual like that is fantastic.

Starting the episode off with that glorious smooch, no wonder why Roswaal can't break free. Something to do with mana though, good luck convincing me that xD.

New villain this time. A new Demon voiced by Junichi Suwabe? Yes, please. Power level of the series is out of this world.

Ryuzu Meyer-san's past revealed too. Heartbreaking final moments between her and Betty. Going to need the subtitles to get the full image. Likewise with the whole convo between Subaru and Roswaal.

Kind of worried if this arc will actually finish by 5 episodes. 2.5 hours doesn't seem nearly enough for me, anime-only here. But well, Wednesday nights are at least definitely assured.

Hoping for an one-hour finale tbh

People burning over Echidna's kiss to Roswaal while me be like that apperance Roswaal has today ain't that what Hector looked like? Did he just replace Hector as the Devil of Melancholy? Is this what the contract with Betty was about?

The sleepy man looks like me without coffee. But seriously, Roswall is completely clueless. Subaru's already got it planned out, it's even begun. Theres nothing he can do but watch. But there's a chance he could cheat. It wouldn't surprise me if he got the assassins to come a day early or just kill himself if Subaru wins. But it's something scummy that only I would think of, so probably not. I hope it's the end of all the flashbacks, jesus how long can this go for? Can someone explain what this "devil" guy is? Echidona's group made it seem like he's stronger than her. I don't care if it's a spoiler I need answers.

Are the endless flashbacks finally, finally done now? I desperately hope they are, as they're completely sucking away my hype to keep watching this show. I'm sure there were important moments in this week's flashback, but frankly I've reached the point where I don't care more and just want things to actually move forward ; all I got out of it really was that these figures called "Devils" also exist(ed) and Roswaal took his fashion and vocal intonation from this Hector guy attacking the Sanctuary that was apparently made to keep him out or something.

Regardless, the plot has been more or less at a standstill for 90% of this second cour because of the relentless rush of flashbacks and it's seriously tedious now, to the point that it makes them feel like padding for an arc that probably didn't really need to be even half as long as it is going to end up being.

Also, how the hell did Roswaal not die from his fight with Hector? As he said, he'd crushed his organs, splintered his heart and broke his bones. Yet, Roswaal's just alive as if that never happened?

I can't deny that it lacks believability, but saying the writing is bad is just stupid. It's not about the actions, it's about the ideals. The entire point is to show which is the stronger belief. And how the heck aren't you used to it by now? Subaru is annoying as fuck when he's heated.

It's not in the LN but it's canon. It's from a side story written by Tappei himself.

No,its not a filler. It's canon from a side story. It explains why Roswaal loves Echidna so much. The light novel main story doesn't explain the reasons behind Roswaal's actions.

Echidna saved him from dying, just like Emilia saved Subaru in their first meeting.Roswaal's parents hated him for his condition and treated him to be a burden to their family.(This wasn't shown in the anime).

Another reason it was included is to show the hypocrisy of Echidna.Ekidona did call Emilia a loose woman for kissing Subaru.

—Also this. Echidna despite helping people calls herself an Evil Witch. Emilia is starting to call herself the "Frozen Witch" in the anime.
Subaru claimed that people are trying to make her an Witch by treating her like a witch.
^This is important.

Daymn Echidna gave Roswaal that good ol' succ lmao. That was another fantastic episode, that exchange between Subaru and Roswaal near the end of the episode was so good. The VA's did a fantastic fucking job.

It was really nice to see Roswaal, Beatrice, Ryuzu and Echidna just chilling in the sanctuary. I wonder why they hid Echidna's eyes though, like their hiding her true intentions or something. Hector the Devil of Depression, he seems pretty cool and I am sure Roswaal like copied his look and speech patterns though but why? What even is he and why is he such a danger to the sanctuary, damn I have a lot of questions lmao. I was smiling the whole time when Roswaal was spouting shit about how Emilia will break down again, boy how wrong you are.

Well, I am really looking forward to the next episode.

Beatrice/Roswall backstory had a lot of similarities with Emilia backstory, so it felt the author was a bit lazy in there. The final confontratiom with Subaru and Roswall was really well made, but I think it would be even better if we didn't knew how Emilia did in the Sanctuary in order to increate the tension. Overall, pretty good, but it still has a lot of flaws that doesn't allow the show to have the quality that it wants to be

If the story lacks believability, that by definition is bad writing. Authors are supposed to make their story believable if the story takes itself seriously (which this story does). As to showing which is the stronger belief.... what's the point? Will it save the sanctuary? No. Will it save the mansion? No. All it is doing is wasting time and there isn't much time for Subaru to be able accomplish saving both the sanctuary and the mansion. Subaru went in there with confidence, but the very act of going there to try and get Roswaal to concede when he wasn't even close to fulfilling the bet... there is no way that Roswaal would not perceive Subaru as bluffing (or an idiot). And if Subaru didn't realize that Roswaal would recognize that (or he actually believed what he was pushing) then he truly is an idiot. And so, by the act of going there to ask Roswaal to concede when he hadn't even remotely accomplished what he said he was going to do, he is showing that his beliefs are not stronger. If his beliefs were stronger, he would just go accomplish what his beliefs are instead of trying to convince Roswaal to concede.

Does everything need to be believable? The entire point was to get him to realize. Subaru's charcter is different from the average. He stands for what he believes without any shame and I've got to say it's annoying as fuck. But the scene works. Roswall thinks he's an idiot for the same reason you do, but Subaru's character is what makes it believable. You can't compare him to you.

You obviously paid no thought at what I was trying . The flashbacks could have been the same length while focusing more on the important things and while including more details that were omitted instead of having characters standing around during times of crisis and going through ten pages of dialogue like time is frozen. Things like that work in a light novel where you can read it at any pace you like but not in an anime where there is limited time and the pace of a scene is defined by the director and not you. Also, they could have re organized some things to make the flow better (which Tappei did to fit the web novel into the light novel but actually made things worse imo).
Directly translating from page to anime doesn’t work well.

And to me the budget limitations seem to have affected negatively the scene compositions. The camera tends to stay too still on barely moving talking characters.

I also personally find the fact that they have a single line for ears very distracting and can’t stop noticing it!

I'm almost lost now. I don't feel invested in just about anything I'm seeing in the show. So much exposition and, what do you know, more declarations lol. Does the writer have no subtlety with his points and messaging? Btw, when is Subaru not going to act lame. PLEASE, stop being lame man. You're killing me.

Like shouldn't this guy have a more mature and humble demeanor by now? He knows that he's a worthless guy without the respawns, and he's been forced to believe this by literally dying over and over. Just ... ugh. I'm tired of waiting for this man to change.

Ngl, I kind of want the show to go back to torture b/c of how much I'm hating on Subaru's character right now. Put him back in the wringer and hope he comes out actually changed this time.

If he surrenders that is going against his beliefs and ideologies, he believes that people are weak creatures only able to dedicate themselves for only one important thing(For him that's Echidna) and that if you have felt a certain way for so long, that feeling will never change. He has been in love with Echidna for 400 years, due to his unwavering determination that has lasted for such a long time, he will not easily surrender and change the feelings he has been holding on to for so long just because of a "slight" inconvenience.

You literally missed the entire point of S2, if you believe Subaru should consider himself worthless.

Absolute bad takes, one after another.

Shortening the flashbacks will cause a massive impact on the writing of the series, which what it's known for.

Emilia's flashback was one of the most anticipated moments of the season, being built from S1, Teased with Frozen bonds, it needed 3 episodes at minimum for people to least connect with the characters.

]

None of the dialogue was unnecessarily added, what are you talking about? if anything they're rushing this particular cour, missing out on in-depth characterization and emotional payoffs, Emilia's flashbacks is currently one of the few best things about this second cour.

your vague criticsms are really giving me a headache lol

These episodes are definitely going great so far and everything is quite understandable but I'm still a little confused as to what exactly is happening between Roswaal and Subaru. It's definitely distinct that their relationship is severed but it still doesn't make sense to me as to how this all happened. But other than that this season is going good,

Copying this comment

>If Rosewaal surrenders that is going against his beliefs and ideologies, he believes that people are weak creatures only able to dedicate themselves for only one important thing(For him that's Echidna) and that if you have felt a certain way for so long, that feeling will never change. He has been in love with Echidna for 400 years, due to his unwavering determination that has lasted for such a long time, he will not easily surrender and change the feelings he has been holding on to for so long just because of a "slight" inconvenience.
