| Isekai is a subgenre of fantasy in which a character is suddenly transported from their world into a new or unfamiliar one. That's not really the case with SAO. But who cares, I take SAO as a Isekai. Could care less if I'm wrong or right. |

| No, isekai mean another world. sao more likely scifi genre instead of isekai because it's about future gaming system. Sao not moving your whole body to digital sao world, the gear just make your brain to control the characters in game. Theres already machine that can make you able to conrol character in game by brainwave. but for visualy showing it maybe still no, this tech still not present atm but for sure its not isekai because the world is created by developer on his own world and player can control the character by brainwave and have... you can say more advanced vr console. |

| Kirito and the others actually never got transported to another world or reality. The virtual world they live in still exists on Earth so unless that game system gets isekai'd to a fantasy world, SAO will never be an isekai Edit: Wording mistake (again) |

| A gender is normally self-called and for it to have such a gender it must not have all the standards of the genre by obligation. An Isekai is not about the progress of the protagonist, but rather builds the foundations for a protagonist to evolve and discover himself. It's like the movie 'Twilight'. It is a "vampire" movie, but not takes advantage of all the potential that the genre has. SAO is still an Isekai because obviously the author wanted to make an Isekai, that does not mean that he took advantage of the full potential of the genre. |
