I did watch one Chinese anime ironically and that was with my friends. We just ended up mocking fun of it lmao

Anyways, would I watch one unironically? Not in a million years...You'd have to pay me to watch those shit.

I've only watched the first season of "The King's Avatar" and while I somewhat liked the show, I couldn't stand to the chinese language. It psychologically hurts me. However, I'll force myself to watch the OVA and 2nd season at some point next year, I would assume.

I've only watched some clips and I thought they're pretty ok. The voice acting just feels very weird but that's Chinese for you.

Their cartoons done in 3D were good, not Pixar level yet but still looks promising.

No, and the only one I’ll probably ever watch is Modao Zushi. Thankfully that’s getting a Japanese dub soon. Mandarin is too fucking weird. I’m not about to waste time getting used to it just for 1 show.

To Be Hero is good, and Scissor Seven was fine too, though I'm usually not that interested in most Chinese anime. I do want someone to translate the rest of To Be Heroine, which had a really promising start.

No, but I've been meaning to watch at least one Chinese anime. Mo Dao Zu Shi, most likely.

I've been binging Chinese anime lately, with the dearth of good Japanese ones. And you know what, they're so much better. They don't waste time on fan service. They don't do the same old manzai straight man joke over and over, narrating everything that just happened. They are better animated when they are 2D. They're not obsessed with loudmouth protagonists that rely on nothing but guts and nakama power. They don't have every other character slur their speech like a wannabe yakuza gangster.

I never gave Chinese anime a chance before, but now they're a permanent spot in my rotation. I feel like a lot of anime fans are not giving them a real chance like non-anime fans not giving anime a real chance. Because they're just "Chinese cartoons". It's the same xenophobic psychology.

I started with king's avatar (I have read the novel too, both are awesome), at first it felt pretty weird because of language change, but I got used to it and I even like it now
it's pretty different than japanese animes, donghuas often got 3D animation (either partially or fully 3D) which is something that I enjoy (even tho most people don't) and in my experience they put more emphasis on the music
so yeah I'll keep watching donghuas (heck I just finished and am waiting for next episode of soul land) because they provide me with something different, I really enjoy full 3D when it's well made and it's pretty difficult to find in animes, and I love the fact that I'm noticing the musics that much, it creates kind of a special ambiance (both thanks to the music and 3D) that's harder to find in japanese animes

I suggest you to watch king's avatar, I think most would agree that it's great, it's also not fully 3D so it would feel less weird at first I think, as for getting used to chinese, that depends on people, I got used to it pretty fast but it's not everyone
if you plan on watching a lot of donghuas, keep in mind that there is a tendency of having story centered on cultivation of the spirit and such (king's avatar is pretty different as it talks about a video game, and esport)

Same boat and couldn't agree more.

I've been on a Chinese binge for months because I rarely find anything that piques my interest anymore in Japanese anime. Admittedly, their low budget stuff is an animation eyesore. But the higher-end 3D productions are every bit as good or better than what I've seen in anime. Plus, I'm just sick of dots for noses and lines for mouths--the character designs are so much better. Never thought I'd say it, but 3D is the future. Chinese stuff still suffers from a serious lack of genre diversity and their character work is usually superficial asf. But for sheer entertainment, the better ones can be pretty damn engaging.

I still like 2D stylistically, but I like that Chinese anime are not as held up about using a mix of different styles, such as CGI or even some heavily stylized and drawn over real life photography (mostly of foods). Some of the CGI is downright cheesy, but there is a time and place for it.

I will say this though. I was watching A Mortal's Record as my first fully 3D Chinese anime. I don't think it looks pretty, it looks like PS3 graphics to me. But what surprised me was that it was still able to cohesively tell the story, that the 3D, although ugly, didn't detract from the way the plot was told. And in fact, it might be easier to choreograph fight scenes with 3D. 2D animation often uses shortcuts like panning the screen away, blurring the action, or hiding the details behind a light show or smoke or inappropriate zooms, but these techniques wouldn't work as well in 3D, and it's probably easier to move wireframes than redrawing key frames. As a result, the fight scenes are always interesting, and consistent.

Furthermore, I like that they're not married to the first against fist, sword against sword cliche. They're more than happy having people with different skill sets fight each other.

chinese anime isn't legally available via stream on most sites
so to answer your question due to that only the fewest people have watched chinese anime
another thing offputting is the chinese dub most have which is also another no no for me and probably for much more people too

Imagine if people said they don't watch Japanese anime or French movies because they don't like the way the language sounds. lol

I'll be honest with you, I've never heard anyone say this ever.
