| The planet Hecatoncheir is surely based on planet Mesklin from the novel Mission of Gravity by Hal Clement. Compared to Hecatoncheir's gravity of 10 g at the poles and 3 g at the equator, Mesklin has an astonishing 665 g at the poles and 3 g at the equator, where the sole human explorer/diplomat resides with considerable difficulty, spending much time in a vat of a jelly-like material to help support his body, much like the warden's liquid tank in this episode. This is a much more realistic depiction of the rigors of high gravity on the human body, but anyone watching this show knows by now how breezy it is. This episode never explains Hecatoncheir's strange shape, but Mesklin is highly oblate because of an incredible rotational speed with results in a day which is only 17.75 minutes long, and so the day functions as the basic unit of time measurement among the native species of centipede-like creatures. It's quite a good book. |

| Great episode! I thought they would pull the typical plot where the person that Gene was supposed to take with him dies, but not before he gives you what you want and you all end up escaping by yourself. Glad this was a happy ending :) Hmm Melfina :) They probably removed her from that tank, but doesn't she magically get clothes on. Next episode is gonna be good! Land of the Babes baby!!! WOOOHOO! |
