THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- The third DBZ movie and they still fail. Well at least the villain wasn't complete trash like those in the first 2. Also I don't understand why Yamcha, Tien, and co. weren't even able to beat the lackeys. Yeah Goku's the strongest character, but he doesn't always have to be the one to take out all the enemies :/ |

I think it's not a good movie. - first 20 minutes are filler with no action at all. - why Turles looks like Goku and Bardack? He even has the same voice (in japanese dub). - the story of the Tree of Might bored me. - they talk about Freeza, but there isn't Vegeta. 5/10, average. |

The legal age of consent in Japan is 13, so shota is totally legal in Japan. In some western countries shota might be considered child porn. |

I liked the last two movies better, honestly. Another defeat via spirit bomb, just like last movie. Can they think of something more creative please? Quoting what I posted last movie. Tyestor said: There's a list on Kanzenshuu that shows where each movie takes place and where you can watch them while watching DBZ despite the fact that all the DBZ movies technically take place in an alternate universe. http://www.kanzenshuu.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=573 |

Tyestor said: I liked the last two movies better, honestly. And I didn't. The first 20 minutes made it my favourite so far Tyestor said: Quoting what I posted last movie. There should be one year gap between Shen Long summons, which means film two and three take places at least one and two year after destruction of planet Namek (or vice versa, since there is no evidence film 2 takes place before film 3 except that Goku uses lower Kaio-ken there). I don't know if they used dragon balls at that time in the series since I have watched only up to appearance of Garlic Jr. About what they said about Freeza: they either still don't know that Freeza got wiped out (in this case film 2 taking place before film 3 is more plausible) or they meant "Freeza would be easy to handle", not "will be" About their battle powers... It's a known fact Earthlings can manipulate it at will. Or Tullece and his underlings have different scale in their scouters About Haiya Dragon: Gohan already knows him in Garlic Jr. Saga, and we get the impression that Gohan meets him for the first time in the film. But it's not a confirmed fact: note that Gohan already knows his name. About Chichi being so surprised - was there a scene in the series where she saw Haiya Dragon? But then Gohan says that he's impressed that Haiya Dragon found his home, whereas in the series he already knew where it is... Maybe he meant that forest was reborn and it would be difficult to get one's bearings? But I myself don't believe in this explanation, so okay, I give up, it's theoretically impossible for the films to take place in the same universe as the series. But then why characters from alternative universe appear in the series, like Garlic Jr. and Haiya Dragon? |

Best watched after you first see Gohans dragon pet. It was quite a good movie but I will rate it 7/10 for some weak spots, this quote (not exactly like this) "no wonder that I look like Kakarot, there are just a few versions of low end Saiyans" this sounds lame, starting to get bored of Son being called a trash. And the ending relying on Genki Dama again.. |

I liked this movie much more than the other two. It was definitely more interesting and entertaining, and had actual villains that weren't completely lame, like the first two. |

The one thing I dislike about these movies is that they took no care to make them fit into the time line at all so at this point I just treat them as alternate timelines like what Future Trunks discovers. |

Okay movie, I'm more of a action guy so these few movies so far haven't really been cutting it for my personal taste. Sure there's fighting and such, but not really grand imo. Two things I noted about this movie though: "Gohan: Bulma, you think the dragon radar is all charged up?" Wait, wait, wait.... charged up? It runs on batteries? ._. Other thing was, I really found Goku at the table just sitting there while Chi-Chi was barking at Gohan funny. I don't what it is, but I guess maybe because I'm use to seeing Goku in some simple filler segment like that. Also, the ending seemed a bit cliche to me, like 'plot armor' as I've noticed someone say recently on the forums here. He just miraculously got up and throws a ki blast that wipes Turtles out basically... and is this a alt timeline basically technically since the last saiyans were suppose to be: Goku, Gohan, Nappa, Vegeta, Raditz. Movie just suddenly adds a new Saiyan to the list. |

i both like and hate this movie. i think theres a lot of cool things, like how they actually remembered piccolo's stretchy arms, the earth dying, the music, the villain being a little more interesting than the rest of the movie's villains, but there are also a lot of dumb things. you're telling me ape gohan is willing to kill his own father and he only wakes up to this seeing some cute ass dragon he met that day? what the hell? and as someone said in this thread previously, the first 20 minutes of this is just a lot of nothing, waiting for the plot to start. even though i like the villain he falls apart in the face of the actual canon villains which he seems to be based on: nappa, vegeta, even raditz is more interesting than him (at least in my opinion). i think it's an average movie on it's own but after how much fun i had with the second movie and the problems i had with it that i just said, i give this one a 4/10 i was thinking about giving it a 5/10 since it is a bit better than the first but i just didn't because it isn't as good as the second one (which i gave a 5/10) |

I enjoyed this one a bit more then the last one, but i don't like how in the movies the ending is rushed, there is like 5 minutes left and the problem hasn't been resolved yet. |

Ah, let's see. This movie had a lot of interesting features, yet it fails to deliver in some other key features. All the movies, so far, were entertaining in their distinctive traits but lacked in some areas to truly deliver the home run, so to say. This film deviated from the normal DBZ formula by enlarging the threat level and presenting a villain, while very dull, still posed a serious threat. The action scenes weren't terrible, and the fun little adventure at the beginning was amusing. Sadly, the rest of the Z fighters couldn't even hold a candle to the lackeys, leaving Goku to handle them all, that was very much disappointing. Especially Piccolo, that man isn't as weak as the movie portrayed him to be. The main villain, Turles, a grave danger he may have been, he was, unfortunately, very bland. How did he survive the destruction of his home planet? Why do he and Goku have the same facial structures? Nothing was explained, leaving quite a bad taste in my mouth. Regardless, it was another averagely entertaining DBZ film. I give it a 6/10. |

Well, yet another blatantly average movie. Just like the first two movies, it had some interesting concepts but ultimately failed to deliver on them. This antagonist, Turlus, remains rather unexplained and seems to only exist for this movie alone. They leave so many things unexplained, which just makes this antagonist seem like a rather one-dimensional plot device. That's one cute pet dragon Gohan has though. |

the pacing in this was poor, it could easily have been cut down by 10 minutes to make it more compacta nd less dragge dout. They really, really wnated to emphasise all the environmental stuff with this movie but after 30 minutes have passed its time to get a move on already. 6/10 cause its still dragon ball and i liked it overall despite the poor pacing |

That Haiya dragon is so cute! I'm glad he didn't die. It was horrible for Turles to try to kill him, I'm glad Goku gave him an ass-kicking! In real life, humans are the Shinseiju. We all need to get blasted by a Genki Dama seriously. 7/10 |

Turles great villain and great movie, as to the discussion around where it fits in the timeline, all the movies are confirmed non-canon alternate timelines (despite at the time the two tv specials history of trunks and bardock father of goku [now has it's own canon issues]), but to someone suggesting this takes place after Frieza/Namek that clearly doesn't check out, and I think the Cooler movie is meant to be the first movie following Namek/Frieza. Ofc this and slug don't fit perfectly in the timeline, but it's likely after the saiyan saga but before namek. Ofc is in the canon with Goku dead it doesn't quite fit in, that's why they're alternate. that kind of backs up the pseudo-super saiyan in slug too, as it's another villain he might've faced to unlock that power, if not for Frieza. the movies only really "make sense" as alternate timelines that branch off at some point. I'd say Turles and Lord Slug branch off after saiyan saga without them heading to namek/Frieza, with Goku revived, recovered and living his life on earth. |
