-Focus on the main characters
-Have great characters, music, and enjoyable content/episodes/arcs
-Have good dialogue and character interactions. Bakemonogatari does this better than anything.
-Have substance. The more episodes the better.
-Have at least 2 likable characters. Anime with only one usually aren't good (ex. Black Lagoon)
-I have a soft spot for great or unique animation styles, but ONLY if the other aspects are also good. Mononoke had amazing art, but I scored it very low because that was all it was good for.
-High production values are always welcomed, but they do not guarantee that the series will be good.
-Have the characters get along and understand each other for the most part. It's okay if don't get along for a few episodes, but it's really frustrating when it's for nearly the entire series.
-Have openings and ending songs that I adore.
-Sequels are almost always welcomed.
-I tend to give very high scores to anime that can make me feel warm inside. This is common in most of my favorites.
-Have genuine emotion.
-Make me care. If I really want certain things to happen in the story or for the characters, then this almost always makes the series more compelling.
-Get a reaction out of me. It doesn't mean the series isn't good if I'm just emotionlessly sitting there not thinking about it, but if the series can make me laugh, feel angry or emotional, or not be able to stop thinking about afterwards, then in most cases it is better.
-Trying to be unique is certainly okay IF it can be backed up with substance. Style+Substance=okay. Style/Substance=not okay. Anime that succeeded: monogatari franchise, ef-a tale of memories/melodies, Mawaru Pengindrum. Failed: Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei, Mononoke, Ergo Proxy.
-Don't have countless misunderstandings. It's okay if there are a few now and then.
-Perverted elements are not welcomed. They add no value and are unnecessary.
-Annoying, perverted, unnecessary side characters will massacre my enjoyment. Examples: Shinji from FSN UBW, Ichijou's friend from Nisekoi, and just about every side character from Maid-sama.
-Don't mix genres that don't fit well with each other. (Ex. action usually doesn't fit in a school anime, and vise verse).
-Don't have lots of episodes that focus on unimportant side characters.
-Don't try to make me feel sad for characters that have received little to no development. It usually never works, and just comes off as insulting to the viewer. (There are exceptions, such as when that character may be related to one of the main characters. Sometimes it is okay in this case).
-Don't have any of the following typical annoying cliche moments: male that acts perverted or stupid no matter how many times they get punched, guy falls and lands on a woman or in her bathtub.
-I have no problem with school as the main setting, but don't make it the focus of the story (ex. tests, student council, etc.). This is completely lame.
-If romance is the main genre, don't wait until the last episode to make the confession.
-Don't have a spineless male as the MC. This kills it for me 99% of the time. Shinji is one of the few exceptions.
-Don't start a lot of the beginning episodes out with good romance development with 2 characters, JUST to later on introduce a third character that gets in the way. I don't mind love triangles if all the characters are introduced at nearly the same time, but if the third character is introduced later on, then they will usually come off as a nuisance.
-Don't be as dense as iron.
-Complex stories are welcomed, but don't be so confusing to where I don't understand anything!
-If there's action, don't make it mindless action without the human element to it.
