Big fan of physical media, not a fan of paying the price of a new AAA Video game for a Blue-ray/DVD. The value for the price just doesn't add up.

With a game for example, there's a much larger market for it and it also has replay-ability. Sure you can rewatch a show... but how many shows are you going to be willing to rewatch in actuality? So for a 1 time experience, $50-60 just DOESN'T make any sense for what you are getting. Especially if you have super long shows that are split into different boxed season which cost $50-60 EACH.

so are there any decent places to buy anime physical media? Or do we have no other option...

I would just keep my eyes peeled for physical anime in Wal-Mart's video aisle (found Paprika on BD one time), a pawn shop, a flea market, a similar video store to Blockbuster, Play-Asia and Amazon (you can get all anime films there physically and digitally).

Rightstuf/Sentai has sales all the time. I copped the entirety of Clannad for like 35 USD on Blu-Ray.

Video games can be cheaper per unit of run/playtime precisely because there's a larger market for them. Many don't have to be translated/dubbed to be accessible to the US and other English-speaking markets. Anime discs are more of a niche/collectors' market, largely aimed at fans who saw a show on streaming services and really want to own them.

That said, in addition to rightstufanime as Jus1294 points out, there's also sentaifilmworks.com , which often has its discs for cheaper prices. Though not right now, as they recently wrapped up a sale from which I ordered 9 titles for under $120. Many older titles get re-releases at cheaper prices later on down the road. You can also keep an eye on Fandompost's Retail section for news of other special deals and sales.

Seconding RightStufAnime. Pay particular attention to them in July and just before/after Christmas, as it appears they have their biggest sales around those times.

RightStuf is only any good if OP is American.

If he lives in Canada like me, it costs $20 just to ship one thing, and he'd have to buy over $250 USD($355 CAD) worth of stuff just to get free shipping, and that isn't even including the tax.

Ebay and Amazon are the best places to get stuff these days. Just watch out for bootlegs. Don't buy anything from Southeast Asia, and don't buy anything that has Malay subtitles, as they are bootlegs.

If you're okay with DVDs, they will typically always be cheaper than Blu-ray discs.
