Eg Naruto is one of the few that understands what Gaara went through, while he together with Sakura also understand Sasuke, no matter what he's done. The final battle reconciliation between Naruto and Sasuke is one of the best moments in shonen manga.

Yeah, having empathy towards your enemies, like you are some sort of wise veteran, you are better than them and you can afford that luxury. Not that the battle shounens are very realistic but this sounds like outright demagogy to me.

One Piece has not yet produced such a deep bond between friends turning rivals or rivals turning friends.

And it doesn't need to. This is not necessary a good thing in every story.

petran79 said:
but overall One Piece has yet to see an enemy turn into friend

A trope that I really hate in battle shounen.
Like Mr.2 was an exception because he actually is a great person.

Which is surprising. Pucci would have been the best contender but Oda always drops characters with potential to move to the next one, which is one thing I dont like in the manga.

- Doesn't sound like Luffy.
- How about OP being a different kind of story?
Which explains why it's not very popular between people that like Naruto.

I gave it 40 episodes, people saying it picks up at around 100 episodes is ridiculous

It doesn't get better from this point (100-200)...just you finally realise what the story is about and what is wrong with this world.

Could never get into it. I find the character designs to be eye-raping and it doesn't help the fact that it's virtually an impossible show to catch up for newcomers given its continuous nature, unless they are both willing and are able to spend at least half a year doing nothing else but watching it.

I gave up on it. I tried to pick it up agai but sadly it just remained a disappointment. It's just not the kind of anime I like.

Hoho. You mean Elastigirl is just Luffy WITH tits. :D
I never said one was inspired by the other, I said, jokingly, that they are similar. You took the bait and chomped it, congratulations.

1. It's TOOOO LONG!
2. It's action/superpower - my least favorite genre
3. I'm tired to check it out because again #1

I'm curious why it takes too long to finished it but other than that.. nothing.

That's bloody hilarious considering you've got Haikyuu, Prince of Tennis, Diamond no Ace, and Promised Neverland on your favs lol, I can't tell if you're trolling or not.

that's why I said POWER. Sports is shounen, but the shounen I mean here is with fights and power, etc.

There is only one shounen though. If it's published in a shounen magazine then it is a shounen. That's it. It's a demographic, not a genre. Even going by your point, those sports anime follow the classic shounen formula, but with sports instead of fights, with some of them like Kuroko no Basket having powers.

This just adds more variety, if it is done right and put more emphasis on.

In fact it did happened but only in side characters, eg the starfish guy from shark pirates with his regrets towards Nami or the relation between kid Koala and the the shark pirate, but never put in the front. Not only that, she's ignored for years, like countless interesting characters. Thats the issue with OP. It explores so many topics without settling at all. But it reached a point it can't connect everything together anymore. This becomes very tiresome and frustrating. If you read 1 chapter a week it is not an issue, but if you try to binge read the last 3 years of OP, it has not much to do with the older OP that made series popular.

Luffy shows that he has respect for his rivals and can also punch some love and sense into them, just like Naruto. OP also shows his background as a kid extensively. As for the story, it is not that different. Only the presentation is different. Just like in Naruto some characters have deities put into them that did cost them dearly in life, OP uses devil fruits. Or supernatural abilities with dramatic backgrounds like Kakashi and Itachi eyes.
But in OP eaters of those fruits just get an ability, eating fruits on a whim and that's it. No repercussions are shown at all. There are fights for devil fruits like in the story with Blackbird or Ace's fire fruit but I was more interested in a characters background and how devil fruits affected their life's. OP would get away with it if it was purely a comedy shonen, which it is for the most part, but in many cases it had also strong dramatic moments, but lately and compared to other manga it is severely lacking in that aspect.

The anime ignores her for years because it doesn't feel the need to constantly go back to her and other characters when it's not needed. What's good about One piece is that it doesn't feel the need to have other character's lives constantly revolve around the main character.Like sure they will show a snippet of how the other characters are doing later in the future but it's always them doing their own thing.

I've read manga and watch anime both.I love everything about it whether it's storyline or characters design. It's my best Shonen battle manga and anime ever.

Yeah, repeating one and the same thing over and over again in every show is variety?

petran79 said:

Yeah, but this was strongly connected with the realisation of the fishpeople (or whatever the term was, merpeople?) that they are doing something wrong and being oppressed themselves is not an excuse. Also Nami and the kid weren't much of an adversaries more of victims.

petran79 said:

Some of those can't be settled by the means that the MCs have, others are outside of their interests (which I like in OP).

I don't care about OP anymore so I got what you are telling me but I would pick it 100 times over Naruto.

Yeah, but Luffy is doing it for different reasons - some code of honour he formed as kid while listening pirate stories. And he is very inflexible about this code.

Come ooon, I disagree.
Watching OP was fun at times, watching only 10 episodes of Naruto was immeasurable pain. There should be something different in them.

This is too simple of a comparison.

Of course it has drama (way more that I would prefer) and in every new arc the stakes go higher but I don't get what you think is lacking: ultra-hyper-mega-bombastic drama? It has that too but if it's still below the levels of Naruto that I am ultra-hyper-mega-bombastically happy that I skipped on the whole narutomania thing.
Also "compared to other manga" - if you ask me not all manga should be about teens being ultra-hyper-mega-bombastically melodramatic. Death Note was totally chill in comparison and worked perfectly for it's story.

I was mostly referring to the manga of Naruto which has decent art and battles. Havent watched the anime and never will. It will sour my experience with the manga.

Though for One Piece, I think the manga reached a point where it has too much text, backtracking and references . It would be simpler and less tiresome to watch the anime at this point.

At first I was shocked cuz the size *wink wink*
but I was a bored rookie weeb at the time and thought: Aight lets just try this out.

Now it's definitely one of my all time favorites, the story is packed and gives u a journey of a lifetime (especially since it has lotta lotta chapters/episodes worth a lifetime l0l), the characters have all their own personality making it very enjoyable to see their interactions etc etc. The music is lit and nostalgic. The filler episodes are funny as hell.

the anime is kinda meh, but once u into it, u into it. I definitely am glad that I decided to watch and read this One (master)Piece, it will probably stick with me for a good while. I am anxious about the ending tho. Not cuz it maybe will be bad or smth, but because if it ends I am 100000% going to cry of emotions and all, imagine the last episode with some emotionalish OST or even the first opening/ending playing, i can see myself crying like a lil baby already, kinda getting emotional of imagining it right now... :(:(:(

It should end already.

I wanna be the true savior,
the one with a terrible demise.

I wanna be a white angel,
the one with two billion of eyes.
I wanna be like a fly on the wall
to watch you, until you die.

I didn't like it, and I don't know why this anime is so popular... (speaking to the fans outside from Japan)
-I didn't like the artwork/character design.
-I didn't even like the plot.
-Cheap humor, or just lame.
-Plus: I dislike everything about pirates (e.g. Pirates of the Caribbean)

Seriously, I don't know why there's so many people that like this series and why they keep watching it. It should have ended a couple of seasons ago...
