| That Fear of Antarctica film is horrifically intense, and I have no idea how it got greenlit. In-universe terms, it's the equivalent of a film about an imp being a demonic villain, or a crazed centaur stomping people to death. Like, really? It's incredible that A Centaur's Life can be so forward about addressing racial stereotypes, as well as race-based conspiracy theories. Because the show seems just one step removed from our own in terms of societal functions, it's hard not to make comparisons. Still, the show has things like doorways not being tall enough for centaurs to walk through without ducking. I can't tell if the show actually has a grasp on race issues using a fantastical setting, or if it's just fumbling around until something works. |
