The official definition is cute, little girl-like appearance. People can argue about the age thing all they want, but Problem Children/Mondaiji refers to this girl:

as a loli in the title of the second episode, despite being 1000+ years old.

so what? why is this particular anime the defining instance? I could probably find a dozen scenes where characters labeled as lolicons in anime strictly state losing interest in girls once they hit puberty or a certain age. In either case it's just anecdotal and anime creators are not immune to using terms questionable or inflationary.

I think a more convincing and universal argument is that in Japan lolicon literally translates to pedophile as far as I know so with that definition it should not be able to include adults without being contradictory.

The truth is that there are loli designs, loli personalities and the loli age group and if you use the term very loosely you can refer to anything that fits even one of them as a loli, but the core definition includes all of them. That's the main thing, every other usage is peripheral and derived from that core definition. You see people call adults lolis because they remind them of actual lolis in one or more ways, not the other way round. They're called lolis because they're similar enough and people don't care much about linguistic accuracy in everyday life or on the internet. That's really it.
I probably regret this post by now.

I would say that there are several types of lolis. I think that the word may be thrown around a bit too loosely right now. Loli certainly needs to be flat (there are oppai lolis, but I find it hard to consider them as such), and lack curves, but she should also be reasonably child-like, either in looks or behavior. We should not loose the distinction between flat grown/teenage girl and loli, which often happens. It's not only about the breast size.

I would say that there are 2 main types of lolis. Girls that are very petite and either are children age-wise, or they at least act the part even if they are not. They should not act like grown girls since in that case the pettanko girl should kick in instead of loli. Other type of loli would be loli babas, towako or whatever we wanna call them, which are girls that may act grown up, but that's because due to some circumstances their body stopped aging while they were young, or reverted back to childhood, but their mind did not (Shinobu in Monogatari for instance). There would be few other niche loli types, but overall I would say that if girl is merely flat, but she doesn't meet these requirements, she shouldn't be called a loli. Although if we only look at it physically, there are some girls that might qualify, like Louise, even if they don't meet the mind requirement, in which case I would say that height is the decisive factor, as loli should have height appropriate to the child age. I would still be quite hard pressed to call Louise a proper loli, however. I think that overall behavior needs to be considered.

True loli is an actual little girl (underage), regardless of their appearance.
Legal loli is an adult (18+) who has the proportions of a child (short, big head, big eyes, chubby cheecks, etc.)
At least this is my take.

Blanc = not loli
Blanc's sisters = very loli

Like I would not consider Saber a loli just because she is one of the shortest character and 15 years old.

If there is one thing that is never gonna be relevant to whether a character is a loli or not even tho lots of people seem to think it is, is being 'underage' or under the age of consent. With the core definition, it is prepubescent or early puberty so the cutoff is usually between 12-14 so a 16 year old would never be a loli even if in many countries that would be under the age of consent and it most countries it would be underage. If you go by design, the age is irrelevant too. So just leave the age of consent or the age of majority out of it, it has nothing to do with lolis no matter where you stand on the terminology. Plus it varies depending on where you live so you could never use it for any universal definition.

This is probably just an extension of people being unwilling to make distinctions between kids and teenagers, but it still kinda surprised me how widespread that misconception is. Like there was no transition phase between a loli and an adult and it wasn't widely known as being called 'teenager'.
I probably regret this post by now.

Who brought back this dead thread?

Loli is a woman who looks like a girl from my understanding. Like Tatsumaki from One Punch Man.

The 'loli' term refers to pre-pubescent girls around primarily ages of 4 to 12(ish) years old.

Just take it as body type and stereotype mixture. Age is irrelevant as told.

Anime still has actual children characters and very defining lolis. Whilst childrens are bratty cunts as usual, and I don't particularly like them.

On the other hand loli can be some sort of 900 years old demihuman with small body but with very lewd and seasoned personality.

So small body type + personality traits = loli.

For me lolis and children been always absolutely different things. It hurts noone to lewd lolis. Or for lolis to lewd you. Or lolis that capture you and keep you around as a pet.

Seen enough stuff doujinshi and Anime that has various types of lolis.

for me any female character that has the physical appearance of a young girl below the age of 13 is considered a loli
displayed age doesn't matter to me

Age is irrelevant as the first comment said.
Its just the body type.

Tatsumaki is a good example, she is a loli and she is 28.

That's just not true but okay. It seems everyone just has their personal definition and noone cares what the term actually means.

i wouldn't say just that they have to look like 12, but you are right- i admit i forgot something - , a grandma with wrinkles wouldn't be considered a loli, i'll rephrase myself, she should have the body type, look fairly young, by which i mean that it depends, i mean most expressions are very loose anyway, and have an irrelevant age.
