The author of Sword Art Online, Reki Kawahara just posted a tweet about SAO Alicization.

"
Since the broadcast of the Alicization was off, I thought that I would draw a picture ... Although I was thinking that I was late two days behind the background exhausted. Anyway thank you for supporting SAO series this year! The next 13 episodes will be broadcast on January 5. Next year I will try AW, absolutely!
"

This is the real japanese tweet by Reki Kawahara

Yeah of course the Alicization will be 4 cour long, but that doesn't mean ~50 episodes in 1 run, I think A1-Pictures will split it into 2 parts of 25 episodes

** The other anime database site already mentioned that SAO Alicization will be 24 episodes long
** And the official site of SAO Alicization was already post that the BD will be 8 volumes

The series may take a break of 3 months ( 1 cour) I think. Then the remaining episodes will be finished by the end of the next year. So there is hope for AW season 2. That's great.

Yes it is. Since Reki said he will try, I think there will be a second season in the future. It may take longer than one year though.

Guys, i think you might be misunderstanding.

If Reki say he will try for AW next year absolutely he is talking about new Light novel Volume.
At least that's what I got from his tweet when i read it few hours ago.

2018 he released SAO Progressive Vol5 ( February ) and 6 ( May ), which were Ranked 1 best selling novel of 2018 in single volume sale ( total series sale Rank 1 was overlord, probably coz of new anime season in early 2018 )

Then he also released Vol21 of SAO just 3 week ago at 7th December.

but only released 1 volume of AW ( Vol23 at Sept 2018 ). Considering he used to release 2 vol per year until 2016, maybe his tweet mean he will try to release 2 vol of AW again in 2019 lol

I'm just guessing tho, but I don't see the author "trying to get anime adaption" at this point. his job is writing the novel, other ppl like Miki will manage his work. he only give some idea on production and not even major ones lol

Oh that is a bummer! But I still hope for a second season in the future. The disaster armor arc was very good.

Didn't seem to confirm anything to me, speculation yes but it's not set yet. The off Reki meant is the one week break after episode 12 and they can just announce the additional BD anytime they want, they maybe only announce 8 'for now', we don't know for sure yet. Even other series like dragon ball super at first only announce a few bd and announce more later it's all depends on the producer.
