It's possible but extremely unlikely. Because one of the central reasons anime has OP/ED themes at all is to receive funding from an associated music producer who is likely on the production committee for the series. As a result the music producer wants to push new soundtracks/bands/etc. So there's little to no reasonable motivation to reuse songs across multiple series.
Especially because some songs are specifically made to apply to a single series and would simply not fit lyrically with other anime.

I guess it should be possible if both shows are from the same studio and/or are somehow related to each other, but I don't know if it was actually ever done before.

EDIT: Actually in Devilman: Crybaby they used OP from the 70s Devilman anime - but not as OP, just as an insert song.

Using the widest possible interpretation of "two different anime", there are ova, sequels, recaps, specials, etc. using the same theme from the main entry

Other than that, Cutie Honey is known for having the same opening in each incarnation

The only other example i have is AnoHana sharing its ending theme with an obscure series (hope you're familiar with anohana themes) edit: but i got ninjad

I've seen a pair of openings suspiciously similar to each other, but never two identical ones.

In this case it's because they're both covers of a well-known hit song by Zone.

I've kind of wondered about that too, but I've never seen it happen before (aside from the example posted in this thread, I guess).

I would assume that you would need to contact the producer/label if you want to use a song for an opening or ending, and then they could tell you if another anime series had already used it before. Maybe if the anime studio saw that someone else had already used the song, they would elect not to use it, which is why it doesn't happen often.

What's the difference?

I know about an interesting example - Pretty Rhythm: Rainbow Live's first opening is the same as UFO Baby/Daa Daa Daa's first ending: Boy Meets Girl. I would still like to know how did that happened.

Captain Tsubasa 2018 and 1983 have the same op song. Also Log Horizon season 1 & 2. But I don't know if these consider as "different anime"

It's possible but the anime itself must related each other and similar title, story, characters also the creator.
Fate stay/night and Fate stay/night UBW have same song called "disillusion" but UBW only used for final ending of the first season

Many classic songs are public domain but the particular rendition for that song gets a long copyright. So, Show A might have the same ending song as Show B but the rendition is different.

The 2005 Negima! series and UQ Holder! use the same OP (Happy Material) with different singers, though the latter can be considered a sequel of the former.
