Most of my early music exposure was to punk rock because of my brother who grew up in 2000's.

At around 13 I got more into electronic music(dubstep, big room, dnb, etc.), idk why but this shit just hit me.

At 16 I turned more to hip-hop and now my taste in music is just a hot mess

somewhere between this:

Yes

As a child I listened to a huuuuge variety of emo punk and rock

Sum 41, Green Day, MCR, SOAD, TDG, and etc with all those naruto AMVs

Now I listen to a larger spectrum of music, from trap to indie to experimental.

-Microphones/Mount Eerie, Kanye, Travis Scott, Brockhampton, Gorillaz, Perfume Genius, Richard Dawson

Started off with game music, after anime music then with anime music led to j-rock/metal as a pre-teen. Then as a teenager I got into western metal and rock, the basics along with some entry hip hop. Finally in my late teen years I got into extreme metal, which thanks to it eventually led to young adult me getting more into experimental and abrasive stuff, now for the past few years I listen to mostly everything, just genres that have albums that are worth rating, I have a fancy towards post-punk/art punk and free jazz.

Ascended Taste
I only came back to this site for the forum sets and to promote my RYM list... Anilist ftw still :dab:

When I was young, I listened to a lot of Emo Punk / Pop Punk music like Linkin Park, MCR, and Green Day. It wasn't until middle school where I started to pick up a lot of 90s rock like Pixies, Nirvana, and Modest Mouse.

Apparently, my taste still hasn't changed that much from middle school *shrug*.

When I was a kiddo, I used to listen to lots of classic rock, because my father loves it. Later when I started playing music, so in middle school, I started listening to punk - first wave and local stuff- and grunge. At some point I discovered visual kei and korean music, so they became part of my music choices too. My music taste hasn't really "evolved", I just listen to more stuff now than I did in the past.

Grew up on rap. In early high school (15yo smth like that) got through an edgy rock/metal phase - shit like Linkin Park, Nirvana, Avenged Sevenfold, Megadeth, Metallica etc. Got through it in like a year. Now I mostly listen to rap and its derivatives.

I would say it totally changed. My interest in music begun when I was 13-14. At that time I was into dadrock which is not surprising because I just started to play guitar. Then over the years it gradually changed to electronic music, which is my main interest currently. More specifically: techno, acid house, electro, idm, ambient and everything in between. I also love vocaloids (despite being disappointed in vocaloid scene) and some Japanese indie artists.

none of my music preferences have changed too drastically

when i was younger between 6/7-11 i enjoyed listening to whatever my dad had playing, which was classic rock, we spent a majority of the time together so i grew a taste for it, my brother also influenced me with mcr (who i will always hold dear)
when i got to be 12-16 had turned into mostly punk music and "screamo", so bring me the horizon and black veil brides, asking alexandria, those types of bands, but near the end i started listening to more mainstream stuff
but since i was 17, to my now 21, it's been all kpop. i don't listen to old punk bands anymore, i do still enjoy some classic rock from time to time, just makes me feel homey lmao

Used to only listen to dubstep. Yikes
I wouldn’t say my music taste now is better, since I listen to mainly heavy metal and niche genres like lolicore. But eh. It’s not dubstep.

I went from listening to pop/dubstep as a child to piano, harp, hip hop, rock, rap, alternative etc as long as the song itself was quality. I learnt that being defined by a single genre was idiotic because everything has trash and gold in it.

my favorite genre was pop until I was somewhere 13, but ever since then, I started listening to rap and hip-hop. However I still love pop, just not as much as hip-hop & rap.

Well I always loved hip-hop and rock since my childhood, I enjoyed metal during my teenage years but I hate it now. I still love hip-hop and rock and i like edm and club music. I love k-pop now too, that's a big piece of music that i love now.

My taste in music hasn't really changed, I can still listen to almost anything. It's just that I now know more songs from different countries (in different languages).

I used to listen mostly rap/hip-hop in my childhood until early teens. Nowadays I listen to almost everything.. though 70% of my library is composed by Soft Rock or Punk Rock.

Mmmh. Not too much. I've always been musically opened but I probably listen to far more pop music as a child. Now I'm a Rock and Rap savant.

I still enjoy some of the same bands I loved in my teens, like Pantera and NIN. I've gained an appreciation for some things I used to hate, like I thought Meshuggah was too monotonous and with death metal, the vocals turned me off. Deicide was my gateway band for some reason. I think if I'd know about stoner metal and surf rock back then, I would've loved it.

✦ childhood: mtv music (panic at the disco, stuff like that)

✦ early teens: discovered classic rock and indie rock, favorite bands were arctic monkeys, strokes, led zeppelin

✦ since 2011: discovered rym and more alternative (albeit still popular) stuff, my tastes gravitated towards shoegaze/dream pop/post-rock/math rock, my favorite album of all time is still good 'ol Loveless by MBV and my favorite band is japanese math rock band Low-pass, but I listen to everything from hip hop to jazz and bossa nova

✦ since last year: my taste degraded is still the same, but since I've been watching more anime, I started to listen to more j-rock and j-pop, stuff like yunomi & nicamoq, REOL and bands that do anime music like myth & roid

I answered 'a lot' in the poll

Early childhood, I usually always listen to pop and rock music.

Middle school years, I usually listen to electronic, rock, pop, r&b and some few rap music.

Now then early of my high school year, I got more into hip hop and rap music.

My music taste did change as I grow up but I still listen to the genres I used to listen to every now and then.

It hasn't changed all that much, honestly.

I always branch out and listen to new/different music more now, but I also listen to the same songs that I have been listening to for 10-15+ years very often as well.

Let's see... my music taste isn't really fixed, it's never been. When I was younger I just listened to whatever my parents put on. It was a mix of 60s blues, 80s rock, and 90s folk music.

When I finally got the capabilities to listen to music on my own, it was a lot of grunge alternative, 2000s pop, hiphop and reggae, and dubstep. That was my usual listenings when I was... 6-11?

12-13... Still all of that above, but this time add a fuck ton of japanese music. Anime openings and such...

14 to current me is listening to everything I can get my hands on. I'd actually appreciate any music anyone can recommend. I love variety in my playlists. Marina and the Diamonds - Blue, Gorillaz - Tranz, Billie Eilish - idontwannabeyouanymore, BTS - Seesaw, The Killers - Spaceman, Cigarettes After Sex - Sweet, Travis Scott - COFFEE BEAN, Marshmello ft. Khalid - Silence, In Love With a Ghost - we've never met but, can we have coffee or something?
Mix those in with what I've mentioned before that there ya go. My current taste in music that doesn't make any sense at all. My favourite aritists out of those above are BTS, Marina and the Diamonds, Gorillaz, and In Love With a Ghost
