Recently I finished Yu Yu hakashou after putting it off for a long time and the Dark Tournament arc as well as the arc after that one had me hooked from beginning to end. Togashi is really good at fleshing out his characters, maybe that's why I also really enjoyed the phantom troupe arc from HXH.

What are some of your favorite arcs as well villains or antagonists that kept you hooked from beginning to end?

Can't wait to read your responses!

One Piece Marineford, it just keeps so tense the entire time since the first chapter of the Arc.

Kill La Kill the last 5 chapters.

Can't really decide on favorite arcs, since there are a lot, like Yabuki's final round, Enis Lobby, DIO's World, Golden Age, Yorknew/Chimera Ant etc

Favorite villains? Why, they are; I'll be including manga
Funny Valentine, Griffith, Johan Liebert, Kira Yoshikage, Hisoka Morow are my top 5 and in that order; best to least

Golden Age arc + Griffith as a villain is one of the greatest.

Johan Liebert from Monster is probably the most interesting villain I've seen. The Golden Witch, Beatrice, from Umineko no Naku Koroni was also delightfully unhinged.

The standard answer would be Chimera Ant Arc of course. Meruem, Pitou, Pouf, Youpi were all complex characters. Yorknew Arc and the current Dark Continent Expedition arc are great too.

Also loved Kira from Diamond is Unbreakable. I loved Steel Ball Run too, but it was more because of Johnny and Gyro than Funny Valentine himself.

For villains it's Johan Liebert, Masami Eiri, again the raven from Princess Tutu and

The homunculi from the first FMA adaptation. They really all had a lot of depth to them. i didn't really feel like they were villains. More like people who had a goal that didn't necessary hurt a mass group of people, but would determent the main characters.

I see you're a man of culture as well. Finally, I found someone yet again who likes this show. FeelsGoodMan. May I ask if you watched it in dub? It's the truest way to watch the show. Not saying the sub is horrible, but the dub is just glorious.

I've watched Yu Yu Hakusho 4 times and let me tell you that I didn't get bored even once. The start, yes, it 's somewhat slow compare to what's coming next but lemme tell you it gets damn better if someone's gonna ask or look for answers.

If you're going to ask me my best story arc in all of anime it would be the Dark Tournament Saga. Even the Sensui Arc is something you just can't ignore. I guess the next best, or should I say better, thing would be FMA:B. Good stuff.

I'd have to agree with the other comments about Johan Liebert. He immediately came first to mind for best villain. For story arcs - I remember Return to the Infinity Fortress in GetBackers being pretty intense and emotional. Also, lot of people say the Chimera Ant arc is the best in Hunter x Hunter but I actually like Greed Island the most.

Definitely the Luxury Liner arc (Book of Atlantic) and the Public School arc from Black Butler, as well as the entire part of the Noragami manga that hasn't been adapted yet.

Hisoka, the Phantom Troupe, Meruem (HxH), Johan (Monster) and Makishima (Psycho Pass) are some of the best villains anime has to offer. The chimera ant arc is probably my favorite from any anime.

I wathed it in sub, but I think I will go back and watch it dub. I usually watch all shows sub, but I think this one deserves a dub rewatch!

Makishima man, he was a cool antagonist. Although aot people hate the second season of the show, I on the other hand think it is good as well. Too bad there aren't any more seasons. Johan too was a great one, so terrifying without having super powers lol.

The only thing that really sucks about that is that Lust felt really contrived, her whole love story and how she's conveniently connected to Scar is dumb. Also, I think for a lot of people, Wrath didn't really feel earned and worth it as a character till his role in the movie (that is by far the best scene in the entire movie) ... i like him though

I remember being quite excited during the whole "Kyoto/Shishio" Arc (I don't remember the exact name of that arc tbh) in Rurouni Kenshin.

And about villians I'd say that subarashi Bondrewd was the last one I found rather interesting. I just hope Kinema Citrus to do a great job animating his arc during season two.

Yes, I know it's a kid's show and old as hell, but I just finished Future Boy Conan the other day and holy crap did I absolutely hate the villains of this show and want them to die horribly. There are a couple of major villains who do a heel-face turn and are forgiven and redeemed. Despite that feeling a bit forced and unearned, the former villains started to grow on me and I came to like them. Still, the big bad guy, Lepka... oooohhhh maaaaan, he is just one hate-worthy bastard.

Meruem from Hunter x Hunter hands down. What's so fantastic about this anime is that during the chimera ant arc , the bad guys were the ones who were being humane in the second half of the arc (at least the important ones) and the good guys were playing the bloodthirsty, ruthless killers role. A total role reversal. I found myself rooting for the antagonists this time around.

Meruem is hands down the Best antagonist and my current no.1 male character since he appeared and started showing his humane side. No other villain I've come across has impacted me as he did.

Shounen authors really need to take tips from Togashi about character development, bye.

Since Meruem, no other antagonist has really piqued my interest in the same way.

Yeah, I agree. That's why I emphasized the word 'season 1'. Season 2's villain lacks impact compared to Makishima. The main reason why S2 can't compare to S1.

Not to sound like a fanboy since its my new favorite but starting with the Battle of Amritsar in LOTGH I just got addicted to LOTGH.

For manga the last volume of the Prologue arch in Vinland Saga and Askeladd As Villian blew me away I had planned to read half of volume 4 and instead I just read the entire volume in one sitting.

Bondrewd from Made in Abyss would be the last one that blew me away, sadly he's mostly manga-only.

Other than that, Meruem remains and will forever remain the best antagonist in fiction, in my opinion at least.

Chimera Ant's arc, Hunter x Hunter it's awesome, every fight is analyzed by the characters, and the King Meruem, it's a great antagonist, probably the best I ever saw in an anime.

Yeah, Although I did enjoy the second season, I felt the villain was a an overstretch to believe
