No, what I'm wondering is. Is Mercedes Benz trying to sell a car, or a damn lifestyle? For the love of god focus on the stinking car!

I disagree, being a grown up is more about mental maturity, than the stuff you own.

I'll grow up just fine but that doesn't mean I have to do what people tell me :I

I CELEBRATE myself,
And what I assume you shall assume,
For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you.

Anyone with sense would only purchase such a thing if they could easily afford it without it affecting their finances...but most opt for leasing, going into debt, etc.

Selling the dream is what marketing is all about, sad to say. But it's effective. Many people tend to be more interested in the lifestyle a product could give them than, say, features.

I noticed this in the description: "Mercedes-Benz has re-defined tradition for over 130 years. Now it’s your turn to rewrite life’s unwritten rules. It’s time to grow up." So basically what they're saying is, "Forget what people expect of you. Buy this car and be a rebel! It's what we expect of you." heh

Yep. Even when I was a kid, I felt more mature than many adults I knew.

Honestly I couldn't agree more. It's like look at the exciting life this person is leading. Who cares about the transmission, or the engine. Just go out and buy the car. Ugh

I think it depends on who is saying it tbh and the situation. If a random asshole on a game said this I'd probably laugh but if it's someone I know then it would be a bit more deeper ig.

If buying an expensive car will bankrupt you, you're life is fucked anyway for being stupid enough to buy anything you can't afford.

typical hyper-masculine advert. really makes me uneasy :s

edit: the term "grown up" is subjective imo. i've seen relatives who act like fucking children, even with high paying, educated jobs.

so really, it all depends on one's character i suppose.

edit2x: why is a$ap rocky in this advert? guess he sold out huh

I'm as "grown up" as I'm going to get. I'm mature when need be, otherwise I act along the same lines as currently. after all, if I don't find humor in life and act childish I'm going to totally lose it I just know it!

Not a grown up. I live with my mom, I don't have a job, I'm an university student, I don't have any major responsibilities.
I'm an 18 years old kid.

And if we talking about the video. Fuck that, I don't even care about having a luxury car. Yeah, they look really good, but not something I would die for. That's like the most west coasty video I've ever seen. I disagree with most of the video's sayings. Getting married? You don't have to marry someone to "grow up". Get a real job? Just because I can earn money by doing what I love and you may find it effortless just because I don't look burned out because I actually like what I'm doing, doesn't means my job is not a "real job".

Old soul with the heart of a child, I say.

That being said, I do feel myself becoming more mature in many aspects. It doesn't take away from the fun, though, it mostly adds to it. I'd say I consider myself an adult, albiet a young one, and if anyone tells me to "grow up", then, at this point, they're a stick in the mud who has never known fun.

now i will tell you what ive done for you
fifty thousand tears ive cried
maybe ill wake up for once
screaming deceiving and bleeding for you
and you still wont hear me going under
dont want your hand this time ill save myself
just when id thought id reached the bottom
im dying again

I think the whole concept of adolescence and adulthood is fucking stupid. It's not black and white and maturity is about treating people right not being a shallow twat.

Lol let them call me a child then. Crap like this is pointless. It's not going to sway me personally. I do plenty of the stuff they advertised. If buying a what, 50 or 60k car (I don't even remember what model of Benz they advertised tbh, that's how well the commercial worked in my opinion. It doesn't even sell the product all that well or even offer deals related to the product) doesn't make me an adult then all I can do is laugh. I have bills I pay, I have crap to do, I don't think having a super duper special imported ride is going to make me any more or less of an adult than I already am. I'm not so shallow that I need a commercial to tell me whether or not I come off as an adult lol.

Sorry that's just my two cents on the topic. It's not directed at you specifically and I get the point of your topic is a more of a "how do you feel," type thing, but really, all I see in this commercial is an aimless guilt trip.

Thing is a lot of people think growing up or being mature means becoming apathetic nearly emotionless and having only certain approved forms of humour. Which is stupid and a way to manipulate people.

Some people think that being mature is about "not being childish" and trying to appear serious and adult-like, whereas I'd say you're way more mature if you're not afraid to be child-like at times. I don't feel like a grown-up even though I take care of my insurance, have had job interviews and jobs, have an investment plan, have traveled alone, know how to do the housework, know how taxes work, make my own phone calls and appointments etc... But I'm still an 18-year-old high school girl & feel like a kid. If being an adult is really about becoming bitter and serious, I'd rather stay a child lol.

''Dressing proper'' and ''Start a family'' has nothing to do with being an adult. By the way, you can still be an adult and childish, so growing up and reaching adulthood aren't equal to each other.
