They weren't fighting for their lives so what does that achieve? +didn't Armitage say she didn't feel pain in the first episode? But now she does? Never explained what was wrong with the her' "mind" program either. |

| Ross, hero of MAL, banged a robot loli. I wonder if that garden in Mardock Scramble was influenced by this? In case anyone missed it... the thirds got killed because earth feminists want a monopoly on baby making.  Those are some nice wings. Nice lasers too. Wish there was more action like that in the series. LOL Naomi. "You look skinnier." ... "I told you I like hunks." 6/10 (above average) This is my first time watching the OVA, but it's more like a rewatch since I've seen Poly-Matrix. Never felt rushed this time. Plus much superior Japanese VAs. |

| This is definitely the most boring cyberpunk OVA I have ever sat through. There is no strong stylistic or aesthetic element to keep it together and conceptually there is nothing here that is interesting to me. Armitage herself has personality for like 3 seconds in the beginning and then...I don't even know what. Kind of just goes through the motions of what a story like this is 'supposed' to be but instead of being more self-aware it takes itself way too seriously. The last episode was particularly bad. The music was kind of cool when I happened to notice it, I guess. Also, at that level of human development (which is of course only advanced at the surface level and not at all culturally or socially) I highly doubt we'd need to be creating robots just to impregnate or whatever. But that's the problem with our envisioning of AI and robots in popular culture. You're not going to need to build a robot maid to wash your dishes by hand, because you'll either have time to (quaintly) do it yourself or use existing tech, you know like a dishwasher. Obviously that isn't the best analogue, but it's be pretty absurd to think that antinatalists would ever make it to Mars, and it's the same sort of anxiety people love to impress upon the future. Had the movie sequel downloaded but probably won't watch it, incredibly disappointing. |

| I see Naomi put the "Thirds can get pregnant" utility to the test. The scientist guy retained some of his sanity to keep Naomi from getting destroyed by the explosion as well, luckily for her. Really amazing anime, despite its seriously short length. Ross and Armitage (or Naomi) had decent characterisation to them, D'anclaude's psychotic hammy villainy somehow became more entertaining over time, visuals and environments were picturesque, and the application of the robot/human conflict had more gravitas than you'd think. It did feel somewhat tacky on occasion, but that's largely a result of it having to jump more time between scenes than anime with twelve or more episodes. For something that barely takes more than two hours out of your day, this is excellent. |
