No Old West?
You could buy land for pennies back then

Also the Prohibiton era, where people actually drank more alchohol than before the prohibition. Not to mention

The Progressive West 2017 is my choice and sucks the least. I probably would fare well under the Confederacy, though I'd still have a draft to worry about. Unlike the Progressive West, I cannot really say I would sympathize with any of the other periods.

I don't know if medieval Europe and Asia were that bad, as a large part of it could come from historical misconceptions and fiction that could be exaggerating alot of it.

As a fellow southerner, who knows people with ancestors who served in the Confederate army. Kid your wrong. Life was only good if you were rich and even then. The threat of starvation and losing everything you own was very real.

Oh it’s so horrible living in the West in 2017...

What with our high life expectancy, technology that makes our lives easier than ever, and overall more equality all around than in any other moment in human history.

But goddammit...some 20 year old retard in some liberal college said something that makes me upset!

I wish I could live in the 40s when the world was at war!

Honestly, some psychologists would have a field day analyzing these people's fascination of the past, especially the most violent time periods. Most people who read about WW2 go "holy shit, I'm so lucky I wasn't born back then", but then you have:

But lets be reasonable, DEUS VULT! DEUS VULT! DEUS VULT!

Btw, the crusades may have seemed nice on paper, but only the first one really accomplished anything. After that it was just one embarrassing failure on top of another, and it ended with Europe getting kicked out of the Middle East for good, after which Islam started to enroach on the Balkans.

Also remember the first rule of crusading, which is that you should just attack Greece instead, its much easier. I think the modern Western crusaders in the Middle East could have used that advice.

they do qualify as identity politics, I would say.
the main problem I have is that not everything has to be political, but there are a lot of people who’ve been trying to make every single post about their own selfish political views, and that just rubs me the wrong way. Besides the fetishism of nazis it’s just plain weird to talk about ones distaste for women and fetishization of a race all the time in threads that have nothing to do with gender or race, it’s creating issues out of things that are not issues, and strikes me as obsessive and creepy.

remember when CD was just a bunch of guys needlessly shitposting about mundane subjects and there wasn’t high concentrations of nazi shit?

Now, seriously, overall Pagan Europe or Hellenism + modern science could be quite interesting and aesthetic. And given time and resource, I believe both would be able to achieve a good degree of rights for their people, but not in a stupid way.

just throwing it out there but the other day i was driving and came across a road sign it had spanish text large enough to read, the english translation was so small i had to strain to see it. the signs in many work places around me (close to central america) are the same way. i predict i will have to learn spanish to survive in america before long, even with trumps dipshit idea of walling off mexico being in progress. our government just keeps making laws that favor illegals more than residents and legal immigrants. on the other side of this coin i can remember when my home town was a white neighborhood and the nearest black resident was nearly two hours drive away. now i've got mexican families living next door and half black cousins.

it doesn't bother me in the least to live next to, or be related to people of another color or country as long as they came here legally, but it does bother me that i cant find a fucking job because jose and his 30 brothers hopped a fucking fence and got hired for a fraction of the pay i could of got for doing the same task without a translator tho.

Well I'd be more inclined to blame the (probably white) business owner who's employing illegals for peanuts. But that's capitalism for you. Don't worry, in the next twenty-forty years Jose will be replaced by an autonomous machine, the next logical step in the eventual self destruction of capitalism, and that's coming from a guy who's based his entire livelihood on capitalism, so don't peg me as one of those nutty anarchists or communist losers.

i actually already speak english, german (rusty on this language and trying to learn more), some amish dutch, and a very limited amount of spanish. but as i see it one should not force someone else to learn a language just because others are moving into the country. if you're moving in learn to communicate with the language of the locals. i personally wouldn't go to india and expect the locals there to know german. or go to japan and speak russian. so why should i learn spanish to talk to someone across the street or to speak to a cashier, or even to read a classroom book in english class?

You might be a valued worker, but it won't matter much when the majority of blue collar workers are unemployed, which means there'll be a gigantic gap in the economy.

It's clearly missing the Napoleon Era. That was the most interesting one by far, starting with stuff like the French revolution, continuing with conquest all over Europe, seeing the biggest army ever created to that point, seeing that army defeated by frost rather than another army, a shit tons of battles won while being severely outnumbered by superior tactics and strategy, top ten anime betrayals, a massive amount of new inventions, of reforms and changing the way things are done on many many things, the end of the feudal era for the holy roman empire (which will lead to germany unified and the world wars) and so on.
Truly a fascinating age for Europe. Compared to that, all the other ages listed just feel uninteresting.

The period around 1620 (+-30 years) is super interesting as well in many places. This is the 30 years war in europe, ended by Westphalia, which was historically the first time several countries met each other to negotiate. Nowaday it's a common happening, but Westphalia was completely new. And it changed the face of Europe forever.
Many stories of that period are super interesting, like those from sweden.
In Japan, this is the period of unification as well, with the end of the sengoku era and all the betrayals, everchanging alliance, turmoil. Once again, Japan would be changed forever by that period.
And so on.

my brain melted reading this... but to try to answer your question you're in finland therefore i feel you shouldn't have to learn Swedish unless you're going to handle transactions between a finish company and a swedish one seeing as how most business agreements take place via phone or email and as such require both parties to understand one another.

the majority wouldn't be my problem. to put it simply robots break down, malfunction, need original programming, upkeep, power, etc. a person like myself who understands this, as well as understands how to provide these would be in high demand if more robots were used. granted eventually supply would outweigh demand givin that the use of robotics becomes common across all industries but why would i travel to a period where that happened when i am traveling for the opportunity to get work unless i discover a time where humans finally just lounge around in luxury while robots do everything from wiping my ass to providing upkeep for my various interests and living space?

The majority would quickly become your problem when your employer can't afford to employ you because the majority can't afford to purchase your employer's goods or services because the majority is unemployed.

Nobody really wins here, at least not in the long term, that's why I called it the self destruction of capitalism. There's only two possible outcomes, the regulation of autonomous labour, which likely wouldn't go over well with any self-respecting capitalist who wants to cut their costs. Or the adoption of a socialist economy, with a base wage paid to everyone which covers basic costs of living. Plus a lot of other reforms as well, I'm imagining Star Trek but shittier. That also wouldn't go over well with any self-respecting capitalist, but if it got to that point I doubt they'd have much say in the matter.

i doubt too many people are going to trust robots with things such as child care, pet care, senior care, or anything else that requires an emotional level. they are computers not living things so inherently there's things they will never be good at doing. and if i am proven wrong i doubt that money will be of value by that point since robots will be doing everything for us.

If I could travel through Time, then Austria-Hungary after the Ausgleich or the German Empire before WW1 would be quite interesting to visit. Oh and Imperial Japan around that Time during the Meiji Period as well.

However, living-wise, there is no better Period than now imho. Even the 80s or 90s didn't have as much Conveniences as the 2000s and 2010s like with faster Internet Speeds, much better Computers with much more Space + SSDs, cheap and large Screens, established Onlineshops, plus no War Fears (Cold War), I can more easily travel to other European Countries + even use the same Currency, so I don't have to exchange Money + I don't have to pay Roaming Fees now.

Feudal times, things were simple. Even if living conditions were tough. Not saying I'd like to live in that time period, just imo the best on the list. Though America after the war is nice, too.

Why this list, though? Victorian England, Gilded Age/Prohibition America, I honestly think are much more interesting.
