| So I was watching a video and yeah it brought back some memories of my teen years when I was really into MMO gaming. Mostly World of Warcarft, Flyff and Vindicutus, I played some Runescape too, but I never really got into it. I do remember though in WoW specifically I made a shit tonne of money and got a LOT of free shit, when I was playing female characters. Sometimes I whored myself out sometimes I was legit just playing the game without really caring. What are your experiences though? It doesn't have to be related to gaming, but even on the forums here I know a lot of guys pretend to be girls. What are your thoughts on pretending to be a girl online? |

| Playing female characters =/= players are actually female Many people just pretend to be girls be saying girly things or even openly claiming themselves to be girls in order to get attention I hate these kinds of players more than trolls |
| A lot of people assume i'm female because I play support on league and usually play lulu or janna. It's a good way to get skins so usually I don't correct someone if they assume i'm female |

| I had wayyyyy too much fun with it when I was young. For example, my friend and I both made fake usernames on AIM like "hotgurl3984" or whatever. We went onto the popular chatrooms of people looking for roleplay sex. We would see whoever wanted a 3some and would make our own chatroom. Then we'd go along with whatever they were saying until they started getting sexual and would roleplay murder them. Habbo Hotel was also really fun to do stuff like this on, although we would just chat them up. On Maplestory when I would have a female character I didn't so much pretend to be a girl, I would just act like one anyway to get into character or something. Given, back then, Maplestory was a social game just as much as an MMORPG. Good times. Final thoughts; HHAHAHAHAHAHA |
| I've always played female characters, but I've never let anyone think that I'm a Girl. Oddly I've seen two (real) girls tare apart a Guild/FC buy fighting between each other and getting all the guys to choose sides, kinda funny :P |

All along I thought this rpg friend I had was a girl, but one day he came up and said he was actually a guy. | I actively play MMO games and I have one set rule ... if the avatar is female, it doesn't matter. Whoever is behind the keyboard is a guy and I will most certainly treat them as such. And before some feminist keyboard warrior freaks out and starts going off on me, no, I am not ignorant and believe no girls play games. I know they do. I live with female roommates that are major gamers. But that does not change me from treating all strangers online as if they are guys. As such I don't fall for anyone trying to act cute to get free stuff. To me that is on the same level as homeless people pretending to be hungry when trying to get money for drugs or alcohol. My roommates and I even joke that as soon as they log on they are automatically guys, also. |

| id say in mmos it's not even about pretending, female characters just look better in game so a lot of guys would have one (since most mmos allow for multiple characters in the same account anyway). needless to be said once you text someone long enough it's kind of obvious if they're a guy or a girl, id say most people i came across don't "pretend" or intentionally act as a girl even tho theyre a guy irl. |

| There's a quest in RS that requires you to change your gender to complete it. I decided to stay a girl for a while and do a thought experiment to see if I'd get treated differently. Well...that was a massive understatement. It was basically a red flag for predators to shamelessly harass me. Sometimes they would compliment my "nice ass" (how they saw that in rune platelegs, I'll never know) or just open up their greeting by forcing a cyber sex maneuver onto me. I would often try the tactic of "I'm just a kid", but that always had the reverse effect. I even told a guy once that I was 10 and he was like "dont worry baby im 34." Found out he had a daughter my age and was fantasizing about me kissing her. Real sick puppy, that one. Then I found out that Runescape actually had a prostitution ring in Lumbridge World 3. Bunch of level 3 "girls" with names like "angel4daddy" standing around, half naked, waiting for pimps to rise up from the castle cellar and get them clients. I was kind of impressed by how intricate the roleplay was, albeit that impression soon died out the moment I realized what a circus it all was. I'd laugh it all off were it not that I actually knew children who played. That's when my stomach turns. |

| Most of the time it's pretty easy to tell when the creator of a character is male or female, as long as you chat with them for a solid 2 minutes. Of course there are some fellas who are actively trying to act like girls, but that's really-really easy to spot and point out, most of the time it's wayyyy over the top. But I guess the sexual frustration of little tweens and older dudes, both with no sex life to speak of, can really cloud their better judgement and just common sense in general. Actually this pretty much applies to online forums and whatnot as well, not just online games. |

| I pretended to be a male online when I was 7-10. Why? I don't know. All just a bit of fun, I guess. If a guy wants to pretend to be a female, he should at least make it believable. I get mistaken for being a guy all the time, so it was easy for me to pull off. I have no reason to pretend to be a girl, because I am one. |

| If i have the option to play as a female, i always play a female. But i don't "pretend" to be a female. It is pretty convenient at the beginning 'cause idiots just give you free items, but there is always the disadvantage that 12 year olds think you're a real grill and that can be pretty annoying after a while. But it's always fun to say "thx dude, i'm a guy btw" after the trading is done. Also, i love the moment when i'm in a group with some randoms and begin to speak with my russian smoker voice, absolutely hilarious reactions always. |
