I listen to a lot of subgenres from power to thrash, but death/melodeath is where I spend most of my listening times. Three favorite bands are Amon Amarth(Melodeath/Viking Metal), Eluveitie(Melodic Death Folk Metal), and Crimson Shadows(Powered Death Metal). Crimson Shadows would probably be my favorite if they had more albums than 1. |

Also the term "technical" is basically used kinda the same way so a technical death metal band might also be called progressive death metal by some people. Darekmhn1 said: Atmospheric Black Metal? I'm not too big on Thrash either but I don't hate it. I can listen to any type of metal as long as it's not modern crapcore like Atilla and anything similar. I also don't particularly like anything that's too slow so i don't listen to Doom metal all that much. The faster the better, that's why i've been getting into "extreme metal". It's like a sub-category that includes Thrash, Death, Speed and Black metal with more aggressive sounds and much faster tempos. Something like Bal-Sagoth. Also i just can't handle DSBM. That shit's too abstract for me xD I'm more of a generic tharsh with sick riffs kind of guy. |

Hell yeah, my entire life revolves around metal. My favorite bands are Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, and Death (no particular order, though Chuck is probably my favorite)... I listen to almost every genre and subgenre of metal except for that poser core crap. The genres that I like the most are thrash and death metal. Favorite metal albums: Master of Puppets, ...And Justice for All, Rust in Peace, Human, Scream Bloody Gore, Symbolic, The Number of the Beast, Abigail, Altars of Madness, Arise, Painkiller, Black Metal, Welcome to Hell, Ride the Lightning, Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?, So Far, So Good, So What!, Cowboys from Hell, Vulgar Display of Power, Screaming for Vengeance, Defenders of the Faith, Paranoid, Diary of a Madman, and so much more... |

So that would put them with bands like Exhorder, and White Zombie. Groove Metal is basically a slower Thrash. Awful genre name though. isn't early megadeth progressive metal? They did use progressive elements but they usually are categorized as something else. So that is sort of an opinion thing. Lol, but yeah explains some stuff There is also Orthodox Black Metal where they aree theistic satanists. Then there is Occult Black Metal which is mostlly occult spiritual themes. Then there is Pagan Black Metal which focuses on pagan gods. There is also something called Unblack metall or Christian Black Metal lol This is wrong on a few songs but... |

Massive fan of metal, especially melodeath. Amon Amarth, Children of Bodom, Arch Enemy, Dark Tranquility, to name a few. Been branching out into other melodic types of metal lately too, such as melodic folk metal (Ensiferum) and some atmospheric black metal bands (Shylmagoghnar, Eldamar). I'll give any metal a shot though; I'm somewhat broad reaching. Throwing this in to get it some more popularity. |

@Darek didn't know half of this existed Well not all of those are officially genres since some only have maybe two or three bands with such a style. lol, some of those names reminded me of this video: Sounds about right also math metal and pornogrind had me rolling on the ground, lol Their example was bad. Born of Osiris is Progressive Deathcore not Math Metal unless I missed the time signatures. Math Metal like Math Rock uses polyrhythmic time signatures. Math Metal often overlaps with Progressive metal bands that do Djent. Usually Mathcore is a much more prominent genre than Math Metal as there are at least several bands in this style and is better defined. Awful name though. Pornogrind is describing the porn samples and sexual lyrics used in a type of grindcore. |

Too many bands to just name but I'm not one of these elitist dickheads from metal archives or such that believes only bands with demo cassettes of 50 copies that mostly were given away to friends are trve.
