Subaru is literally getting dumber and dumber by each episode and his fake act this episode was annoying to say the least. We all know what he intends to do, but his actions, especially this episode, was idiotic. Obviously, he wants to earn the trust of the sisters as well as save everyone from the shaman, but how does acting like a complete psycho accomplish that exactly? If anything, I would assume the sisters would be more suspicious about Subaru especially when he revealed how he knew the location of the vase. Also, how is Subaru asking twin drills about curses and Puck about shadow magic not setting off any red flags in their heads. Sure, Subaru has memories of them, but he is basically a stranger to twin drills and she basically told him everything she knows without a second thought not to mention the fact that he has free access to the library. I really hope Subaru returns to what he was in the first few episodes instead of staying as a airhead who has a crush on a princess.. I think his mistakes were based on a mental breakdown, rather than his intelligence. Basically he freaked out. It's not like he acted like a psycho because he thought it was smart. He only asked about shadow magic after Puck told him that's the element he had affinity with, I believe it would be sensible to ask about it under such a circumstance. Why would asking about curses set off more red flags if he already smells like the witch? I mean if he really is working with the witch you'd assume he'd know about curses already. Here is the problem I have. Subaru was freaking out last episode then by the end it seemed like he found his resolve, so the fact that he is freaking out once again this episode is taking a step backwards. Also, he didn't even freak out to this much when he realized that he was warped to a fantasy world or the fact that he revives at a save point after death, both I would think are more traumatic events. I haven't read the manga or anything but I was in the belief that there are numerous factions against Emilia, maybe due or the witch resemblance or the fact she is a half elf. Thus I'm surprised that twin drills was so willing to give so much information to Subaru which she doesn't like to begin with. |

Great episode. Solid portrayal of all the stress he goes through every moment while always putting up a front. Anyone else think this was hilarious? |

Well that inconsistency doesn't have to do with intelligence, but yeah I could get that argument when it comes to questionable that this is the time he freaks out the hardest. I'm not sure I agree-nor do I particular disagree because it's hard to say-, but at least I can get where you're coming from. Yes he's been killed before and has recovered much better and didn't have such a meltdown so that's one argument, but another argument is this time around there was that whole thing where when he was blinded he got all messed up over it, he overworked himself-I think being tired and stressed might make someone be more susceptible to breaking down-, and this time around he actively wanted to do his best to make everyone happy so they don't annihilate him because this time he knows most of them under certain circumstances will rip him to shreds if they dislike him. Apparently, the way Ram looked at him and the intensity of her rage when Rem died also seemed to take a heavy toll on him, plus he knows they have the potential to be kind people because they held his hand yet circumstances make them so hateful towards him so he wanted to change it. I'm not a psychiatrist, so I'm not 100 percent sure how he should act. I'm not sure Beatrice dislikes Subaru, I think she's a complete and utter tsundere. She's been willing to help him through most of the cycles, in fact everyone in that mansion seem to have a culture of aiding others with knowledge, or at the very least grateful for him helping Emelia. |

MC really needed to chill out, it was a real big weakness for his situation. His desperation for a continued favorable result was definitely going to get him killed.... again. Hopefully it's out of his system and with the accumulated experience he spastic freak. I've mentioned it before, but I do hope he does the Groundhog Day thing where he builds up useful skills after every restart. Needs to learn how to actively take advantage of his power. Peeling a potato isn't going to translate very well in combat. The puppy is the carries the curse! Don't get bit again! he's doomed for another repeat. Good thing he only loses a day (so far as we've seen). |

That's why she's casually answering him the questions about magic and curses and why she's helping him. Hory sheit it's an Archer. I don't think Beatrice has any personal beef with the witch, unlike Ram/Rem who obviously do. Otherwise, Beatrice is most likely a spirit so she probably can sense stuff like Puck does. I haven't read the manga so I dunno how heavy the lap scene was there, I guess I'll go check. Edit: So I went and read the manga...and to be honest, I don't see anything darker. The flashbacks he went through can be taken as that part where his traumas break apart in the anime, although the order is a bit different - but the end result with the light shining through the window and the brightness enveloping him is still the same. |

Awww, the poor guy's been through so much. I'm glad that things might be working out. It's nice that he had the chance to let his emotions out. The whole dying repeatedly must be really traumatizing, even if he gets to time travel. Ugh, I just wish he could tell someone. And what's up with Emilia calling herself Satella at first? |

It seems even idiot can make a correct decision once in a while. Anyway. Remember how Puck said to Lia that "Subaru isn't a bad guy"? It seems spirits have a way to detect intentions from people or something similar. And we've seen that Beako is a much stronger spirit, so if Puck can do it, surely can Beako, especially after mana draining him. I guess that would be the main reason why Beako is helping Subaru in every loop. Also, there are too many weird things about Subaru from her point of view, so much that she was observing him (shown on several occasions through last few episodes). I'm sure that her observation showed that Subaru is not a threat - again, it seems spirits have a way to discern things about humans that humans aren't capable to do (with that ease). |

This adaptation of the manga scene, especially those showing Subaru's miserable state the the lap pillow scene were incredible~ From next ep on or maybe the one after depending on pacing, even manga readers will be seeing everything for the first time, so I'm really excited to see how this'll all play out form now on E.M.T is godly but can't deny Ram-chi and Rem-rim are cool too |

Last week due learning about the fact Rem was one who killed him and getting fed with nobody with nobody remembering the times he shared with them. On top he couldn't talk about his ability. He felt he nobody to trust in and nobody who trusted in him until he found the twins have been watching over him. This week is because while he found he's resolve, he's not actually sure what to do with Ram and Rem, he's also completely afraid screwing up and going through all that heartache again so he under a ton of pressure. Frankly most people would have gone nuts in his position which why the scene with Emilia important. He needed someway to let out his anxiety and rest. To clear his head confide in someone about his troubles. Basically just because he found a goal doesn't mean he's sudden a robot who automatically know what to do and be just fine and dandy. |

He then thought for a while and realized that she did so as for her not to inconvenience him with her troubles. At the time I also didn't realize... I didn't know about the the discrimination that she was going through... I guess. But the user Fappa clarified... If you know about it, it's really not normal for an elf (even if half) to share space with humans. Their races are said to be adversary to one another... The reason why she might be close to the human civilization should be because she's a heir to the throne... (Or even an outcast... not belong to either.) I'm guessing that the King had a romance with a beautiful elven woman (elves should be beautiful as a standard, but I felt the need to emphasize it)... His daughter then became involved in all the political stuff...after he disappeared (exchanged places with Subaru somehow)... (How unfortunate of her...) |

Wasn't the main point of Emilia's issue with her birth race because Satella was known as a silver-haired half-elf, and because she has the same characteristics? That said, I'm pretty sure the entire royal blood line was said to have been wiped out, so the candidates aren't really of royal blood. Unless of course there are exceptions, as usual in these animes. Also the thing about Emilia calling herself about Satella, I think it was a double thing where she was trying to have Subaru distance himself from her (as any normal person of that world would have after hearing that name and taking in her looks) with the added purpose of keeping him out of any mess that the royal selection may induce. |

Anyways being annoyed by an MC being naive or impudent is sort of the staple of tsunderes. What do you mean he succeeded in this attempt waking up the next day unlike the last time he killed himself? I don't think he actually went through all the days yet, unless I missed something he still is in the same loop trying not to be killed on the final day. What exactly were these "children" saying about HXH? |

The best line "It's more satisfying to hear a single thank you than lots of sorry", really touched me. Good ep, learned a lot of plot points which will surely be useful, I guess we'll get lots of theories from this ep only! About Subaru... He really overdid it this time, that scene where he continuouly says "I'm sick" was very painful. We got a nice break from the overenthusiast Subaru with a nice and touching breakdown scene with Emilia. It was time they both had a close scene together. I guess now I'm getting used to Subaru's personality (8 eps in), he's acting like he's definitely got a plan now with a lead on the village which most of the viewers theorized. Overall while comparing this to White Fox's other famous title (you know which) is out of the question, it definitely has increased my interest in the RPG/Fantasy/dark and grim themes. |

That Shamac magic, probably just like Itachi's Tsukuyomi but without red color and no sound at all. At least this time Subaru got a "precious" time together with Emilia and lap pillow too. LOL But damn Subaru, I like Beatrice called "Betty" better than "Beako" |

Big forehead blonde loli talking about the Taizai, I just finished Nanatsu no Taizai as well lel. Oh so Emilia might be Satella. Best girl Satella Satella the jealous witch Satella best character Satella for lyf. Feeling sick and in deep problem, but desperate for an answer. Keep going Subaru Emilia-chan doing good work, letting him rest in her lap. Sometimes a man just needs to let everything out. While his woman is taking care of him. Shiet they are fucking up mah boy Subaru with the "lap pillow" shit, yo calm the fuck down everyone. Good episode, Subaru is finally moving forward 3.4/5 |

am i the only one who thought this episode was shit? the anime so far seems to me to be a convoluted mess that sparks more questions than answers it can provide. and whats up with subaru trying to work hard and putting up a facade? what does that accomplish? would be swell if someone could shed light on that. |

Epicenter said: iRels said: Epicenter said: Yangbo said: Epicenter said: Yangbo said: After this episode, I lost some faith in this show. Beatrice is being simple. She's good, not evil. Thus she helps someone in need. Still, that doesn't means that she likes that person completely. As was shown and said, his impertinence and lack of respect truly annoys her. (First minute of 4th episode.) What people might've not considered in this episode is that Subaru wasn't killed, and woke up normally the next day... He succeeded in this attempt, unlike the one before... where he went as far as to kill himself. Realize that he's not an expert at what he's doing. Neither we'd be in his place. So his mistake was to not control his emotions, and become afraid of failing next time... He became too paranoid. It was only human of him to, due to his inexperience. So he fell victim to what he wasn't prepared to. To what he hadn't experienced before. Totally reasonable. (Yet he's shown to be aware of his condition - which can be explained from the knowledge he has acquired through the media in this modern age we live... We learn mostly by observing, don't we?) He was said to be quick-witted... I noticed it. That's because he's learned too much through the media. It's not normal for a person his age to have acquire so much knowledge in the medieval world... without even having to read books. Books aren't available to everyone in there. It's not that easy to acquire knowledge. But in our world, all we've to do is possess a TV. So he's superior knowledge... Still, didn't bring him far in the beginning, as he was killed in episode zero... (Talk about early...) Too noticeable was that people were criticizing his actions... Right. 99% of you haven't even experienced what he did. You haven't actually lived in a world like his. Too much arrogance, for taking confidence from something that was given freely to (most of) you. Still, I'm also guilty in this; it's unavoidable to be. But at least I try to keep my humility... (I think.) ... I was reminded of when the 'children' tried to criticize's some of the characters' actions in HxH (2011). They did so to characters older than them. Written by someone smarter than them. Not only but I've noticed that they did it with such a narrow view - thinking that the world's as predictable as they believe it to be... Oh, man. That show was too beyond them. And they didn't like it; it clearly hurt their egoes. You confuse me a bit, were you responding to me or to the person I responded to? Anyways being annoyed by an MC being naive or impudent is sort of the staple of tsunderes. What do you mean he succeeded in this attempt waking up the next day unlike the last time he killed himself? I don't think he actually went through all the days yet, unless I missed something he still is in the same loop trying not to be killed on the final day. What exactly were these "children" saying about HXH? If I've watched correctly, night passed, he woke up, and then felt relieved... which was the reason why he became paranoid. He might've become too fearful of failing then. Too traumatized by past tries. He then tried to force himself to work more and keep his standings with the residents. (Like: 'Please, don't kill me! I'm doing my best!!') It's a big mansion, and there are too few employees... He was exhausted. Ah, what I posted I directed to practically everyone... About HxH, basically... they threw a bunch of name callings on some of the characters... thinking that they had acted wrong. But in the end, they did well. This example was of when Knuckle released his ability... Many 'children' kept cursing him. It was if they were desperately trying to be right about something... And had finally found their chance. (It was pitiful.) Morel was then saved by Knuckle, even disagreeing with his actions... But it was because Knuckle is the person that he is, that he did what he did... You can't expect everyone else to be 'you'. And being 'you' don't always means being correct - which was what they weren't wanting to accept. Because again, 'kids'... |

otakuthon said: whats up with subaru trying to work hard and putting up a facade? As Subaru said, one of the conditions for surviving current week is to get on the good side of the staff. Especially twin maids. By working as a butler he can achieve that (as shown in ep4 and ep5), as his work as a butler naturally requires him to be with them. As for facade, if you've been following the show, you'd realize that it's his defense mechanism to cope with the pressure. The bigger pressure he feels, the more cranked up his "cheerful idiot" act is, to the point that it becomes unnatural (as shown). otakuthon said: what does that accomplish? Ideally, his goal. However, as you've seen (again, if you've been following the ep), it did the complete opposite effect, as Ram and Rem started to be more and more suspicious. Especially Rem. Once he tuned down his "cheerful idiot" facade to normal level, twin maids accepted him more. Well, Rem needed Lia's words, but still. |

This anime is probably not the easiest to understand because a lot of the issues are hidden behind expressions, brief pauses, and whatnot. It's not the kind of anime you can take at face value and just nod. Especially when it's confusing you a lot in an episode with the least amount of hidden exposition so far. Subaru is working hard and putting up a facade because of: 1. He needs to prove his trustworthiness and worth to Ram and Rem while not arousing suspicions. That said, his past traumas are slowly but surely pushing him emotionally, and thus he is constantly trying to laugh it off with his usual facade - which turns out even more forced and over the top as he tries harder. The fact that Rem is constantly eyeing him coldly doesn't help. 2. The fact that the unknown Shaman is still out there adds to the pressure. There is a literal time limit to his life/the others in the mansion until the 4th night, and the fact that he still lacks crucial information is pushing him further. 3. This all boils down to 2 scenes - the Lap Pillow Scene, and Beatrice's curse explanation scene. Subaru has now unwinded - his problems haven't gone away, but he has gotten the sadness and trauma bottled inside him out. The emotional outburst lets him relax further, and the fact that he now has a concrete lead on the curse source will probably help him further in the next episodes. |

BTW @Epicenter If you "Anyways being annoyed by an MC being naive or impudent is sort of the staple of tsunderes." keep basing your views off known clichés you'll keep being deceived by the author. She didn't use this serious voice tone meaninglessly: The author's shattering your biased views: (Serious voice tone on the 'human' part.) She's not a child. When Subaru took her by one, he was put to the ground, and made to agonize in pain. (Someone should be capable of explaining what the author's doing better than I'm feeling inclined to at the moment...) I advise you people to keep the clichés for the real world versions of them; because in this fantasy world, they're the real thing. |

The more they describe Satella the more I think Emilia is Satella, yet at the same time it doesnt make sense while making perfect sense, if that makes sense. So the mansion has two orges and a jealous witch. Wonder who the shaman will be next ep |

Subaru is forcing himself to be happy. It's sorta annoying but he can't help it. Poor guy.. That lap scene, so powerful... Finally he got a chance to let out most of his feelings. Emilia is too gentle, I'm glad Subaru has someone like her by heis side. What if Beako > Emilia-tan (in terms of nicknames) Finally they played the ED song! They didn't play it last episode. This is definitely my favorite anime this season and possibly so far this year. That crying scene was animated beautifully which made me like both Emilia and Subaru way more. That scene also showed us the mental/psychological effects from dying/failing constantly to the point of a mental breakdown. Despite having a very useful ability, it shows that it takes a huge toll on him. Though not much had happen this episode, I think showing Subaru's pain was a huge leap in character development for him. This episode also takes away the aspect of "well if he dies, he can try again" because in my opinion, he turned into "well, if he dies he can try again but will his emotions and mind be stable enough to win?" We saw last week on what the Return by Death ability does to him, but we get a more deeper meaning behind the torment he goes through. That right there is how you develop a character. 5/5 |

I advise you people to keep the clichés for the real world versions of them; because in this fantasy world, they're the real thing. Are you somehow bothered by me calling her a tsundere or something? I don't see how any of those screenshots changes her being a tsundere, or why you think you need to prove she isn't one. Even if there's some secret meaning behind her words like she has some sort of emotion towards humans, it's not like she doesn't insult the other characters-silly girl Emelia, weird fetish Ros, just like a tsundere would, plus the cold exterior and more warm interior. You know, me saying she's a tsundere isn't even an insult or a knock on anything, it's just a classification. Tsundere's can be great characters and have depth. I won't discuss this further though, wouldn't want to get people all riled up again acting like I committed some kind of crime, probably reporting me, and a mod coming in huffing and puffing. No more L or T words. Back "on topic" to your earlier post, he was already over working and trying too hard by the first day-saying stuff like he can't waste a single day, trying to continue when he had no more energy, etc-, fearful of them and trying to make sure he has their favour. The way you talked about him not being killed and him succeeding where he failed before in waking up the next day made it sound like you were trying to say he somehow made it through more days then he did before in his other lives, which he hasn't since even by the end of the episode it's only like the third day. It's kind of late here, and IDK the way you communicate seems hard for me to fully grasp 100 percent of the things you say, so I'll just go for the night. Good night or day to you, have a nice one. |

This thing makes me remember Haruhi Suzumiya which had about 5 chapters with the exact same storyline. But Re:Zero makes it much more interesting And about this episode i think he has to build a good relationship with all the people inside the mansion. Well he already did with Emilia so she wont be the one who killed him. At first i alao astonished by Rem who try to kill him but the very next day ahe died. So well just like an otome game and FIGHT SUBARUUUU :333 |
