| To give you a bit of context... I'm a fan of Durararararara (wait.. is that too many ra's?)... which by the way.. I think the english voice actors are doing a fantastic job with... well.. aside from Mikado (the MC).. his lines always sound limp or forced... but overall I actually prefer the dub to the sub which does not occur often...... sorry.. I'm straying from the point... one thing that pisses me off is why they can't 1) sub the russian lines.. I know I'm missing out on whats being said. And its not just one line.. There is literally 30 seconds of dialogue which is just ignored. Can't they just put the translation on the bottom of the screen. I don't want to watch to watch the sub just to find out what I've missed in the dub. I've seen this in numerous other anime. I'm guessing its a legal issue.. but why can't they perform the same job as the subbers who are doing this in their free time? 2) sub the japanese text which appears on screen.. ie... if there is a note, a billboard announcement, a text message, a books title written in japanese.. etc.. is it too much to ask for a translation? |

| Did the Japanese viewers get Japanese subtitles for the Russian dialogue? No? Then not subbing it in the English dub would be in line with the creators' intentions. As for the onscreen text, most dub releases do include a secondary "songs/signs only" subtitle track. If you were watching some shitty rip or bootleg stream that didn't include those secondary subs, blame yourself. EDIT: This post would indicate that the Russian dialogue in the dub did in fact have English subtitles. And the info out there on the dual-audio rips shows that most if not all of them do have secondary subs available. |
