I will never watch ESC again after the beard fiasco. I'm Australian and I don't know why we are in it for the life of me. It's just stupid. Nothing against Guy Sebastian, weird looking religious cultist clown he is, he can sing..but when did we become a part of Europe. Jesus, may as well put Japan and North Korea in.

Eurovision has become a circlejerk of far-left propaganda, so naturally they need to get all "progressive" Western democracies to participate. Sometimes I wonder who sponsors this crap, but then again I know what I'd find if I researched it anyway.

I'm not gonna watch it.

If it was a competition about music then yes,the better song and singer doesn't win rather the country that are on good terms with other countries, they'll vote each other with their eyes closed.

USSR block,Sweden-Norway-Finland,Greece-Cyprus easily come to mind.

Definitely watching it, I look forward to it every year. My longest friend and I will have an annual sleepover to watch the grand final together.

I don't decide on which country I'm going to vote for until I hear the songs ;) ;)
But naturally I'm rooting for Serbia and Australia to do something good.

I must be one of the only people in the United States who gets into it. Eurovision made last year's contest available live from their website, and assuming they do so again this year, I plan to watch it, although I probably won't have time to watch the semifinals. In the current contests, I don't expect to find much in the way of good music; it is fun now for its weirdness and tackiness. The bearded drag queen notwithstanding, last year's contest didn't quite reach its potential in terms of weirdness, so I'm hoping for more this year.

If I want good music from Eurovision, I watch a contest from the 1950s or 1960s. If I want something weird and tacky, I'll watch a more recent one.

Here is a bit of Eurovision history - Italy's entry from 1958, which came in third. This song is one of the few from Eurovision to become a major international hit, and it is one of my all time favorite Eurovision songs.

And here is Ireland's infamous entry from 2008. I would love it if something like this turns up again. Since Eurovision has become such a tacky spectacle, it makes sense that a parody like this would find its way into the contest.

It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

Oh god, the good old days of Eurovision.
I particularly enjoyed the early years of the 21st century, like 2002, 2005 and 2006. Also 2007 and 2008 were two of my favourite years.

It seems to have gone downhill a bit now, because in the past I'd enjoy listening to the majority of the songs; but in the past few years I'd maybe only get into 3 or 4 of them.

Oh Europe... you're as tolerant as ever. You give all the love for bearded women but you can't find any for those awesome Finnish punks with disabilities... :/

Either way, surprisingly there was quite a number of good songs in the first semi. Besides the aforementioned band, Russia, Georgia and Romania were all great, although I can't shake the feeling I've heard the romanian song somewhere before. The chorus kinda sounds like a crossover between something James Bluntish and A1's "Caught in the middle" I guess.

Watching all of it, it's a tradition for me.

And my 12 points goes to Australia just because it's the best song (call me crazy but that's my criteria for voting)

Am from Norway, if it matters.

Usually there's a lot of schlock in Eurovision, but this year there isn't, which is a bit sad for some reason. I want there to be at least a couple of countries you can laugh at, but this year even Latvia are good.

At least we still have the UK. God, I hope they never grow a sense of taste.

Seriously, Hungary's song was sooo bad, first it's melancholic as fuck, second it's another of those "yay let's sing about war and shiz because that is so original and liberal european". But I guess the mainstream talentless line worked like last time (Mrs. Wurst), since we got into the next round.
I haven't seen much, but I really liked Belarus' song.

Anyways, countries will just vote for the countries they like. Scandinavians will vote Scandinavians, Slavs will vote for another slavic country, UK will vote for either Spain, Germany or France since they don't even know other European countries exist, Russians will get downvoted to eternity because that is also a liberal european accepting thing to do, etc.

I also still don't know why countries like Armenia, Azerbaijan, Israel and Australia are entering.
Whenever I bring this up, one side says Armenia and Azerbaijan are there because geographically they are in Europe, and the other side says Israel and Australia are there because their history and culture with Europe is strongly tied. So what? Armenia and Azerbaijan have nothing to do with European culture. And Israel and Australia are not in Europe. And Europe and them have nothing to do with each other present day.

Then I guess I'll have to explain it to you.

The Eurovision is produced by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), an alliance of different public media service entities. It was formed during the 50s by twenty-three different broadcasting organisations from Europe, the Turkish BO (a little part of Turkey s in Europe), Israel (it used to be controlled by the Brits) and a few African-Mediterrean BOs as well (I'm not entirely sure why the African countries were allowed to join, but I think it might have to do with them being former colonies). However, for a long time, none of the now former USSR countries tried to join of the EBU. Why? Because they already were members of the OIRT, the East European broadcasting company. And, as you probably already know or have figured out, Armenia and Azerbaijan were members of the USSR. So when Soviet finally dissolved, in the beginning of the 90s, the OIRT emerged with the EBU, so the former USSR countries were allowed to join (not all of them joined immediatly though) - including Armenia and Azerbaijan.

As for Australia... well, it's not a part of the EBU, but it's an associated member of it. Not to mention that the ESC has been absolutely enormous in Australia ever since ABBA won in 1974 (ABBA are also still big in Australia by the way, I'd say it's even bigger than over here in Sweden).
This year, the ESC celebrates its 60th birthday, so the organizers decided to invite Australia

Alright, finally had the time to listen to a great deal of songs, here I go:

Georgia: Nice song, but nothing really exceptional
Belgium: Horrible
Germany: Alright song but really easy to forget
Hungary: Cliched and melancholic as hell
UK: Moulin Rouge/10
Spain: Bad, just bad
Azerbaijan: Alright song, but nothing exceptional
Finland: wtf/10
Belarus: Goddamit, this is still my favorite ♥♥♥
Armenia: Cliche, bland, easy to forget
Israel: Second favorite, I really liked this song too ♥♥
Russia: Nice song, but not really good to make it into top 5 (on my list)
Italy: Really liked the singing, too bad I couldn't understand any of it thanks to the native tongue (not saying that's a bad thing)
Estonia: Bad
Slovenia: Really liked this song too ♥
Montenegro: Liked the song, wish it was a bit less melancholic
Sweden: Good song, but the beginning was below average
Serbia: Okay song, but I think the singer's voice is a bit weak at some points
Romania: Nice song, but the beginning was bad

So, so far, best:
1. Belarus
2. Israel
3. Slovenia

Worst:
Belgium, Spain, Finland

Also, I just love how all the comments are full of friendly countries asslicking and not-so-friendly countries harassing each other. Seriously, the Georgia-Azerbaijan-Armenia triangle is quite something.

Wow, the second semi is soo much crappier than the first one.

Latvia was okayish I guess and Czech Rep's song was fine but didn't work as a song for a duo, should've been performed solo really, and that's it. The rest was awful.
