Do you believe it's fine to think like that? Would you trade your current partner for a more successful one? Discuss.

If you make a mistake, it's your own fault. Live up to it and stop feeling sorry for yourself. Be grateful for what you have instead, or do something about your situation.

And no, I wouldn't trade my boyfriend for anything.

Japanese girls are extremely shallow from what I hear

You have shit like cuddling clubs and girlfriend clubs just to experience what its like to talk to girls

Love is completely commoditified there

So its no wonder Jap guys are into you know what

Just imagine it was a girlfriend instead, and the one you broke up with is now a doctor and your current one unemployed and has drug issues.

Live your life in the present, for the feelings you have now. Don't dwell on the past and imagine how things could've been different, because no matter how hard you think about it, it won't change. If I had a partner currently I would love her and her only. It doesn't matter if there's someone "better" out there, when I only have feelings and eyes set for one person.

If you love your gf or bf truly then you would not think about trading him or her for anyone else.

Whether someone is more successful than someone else does not mean much to me

I think it's more accepted for girls to openly date someone for his money over there. But Western girls do this too, they just lie about it so they won't get called a gold digger.

Damn, you could say incestial bonds are blood-deep. Hue.

I think by wishing you had a better partner, there's also some hypocrisy there somewhere. What if you have some bad habits your current partner wishes he had another partner for? At the end of the day, it's your decisions that got you there, and it's your own choices that'll get you into a happier place. Just sounds like some improvements need to be made to the relationship, from both people.

I couldn't care less about a guy's social status, or his finances (though obviously I would expect him to support himself, instead of lazing at home all day living off my own wages).

Come to think of it, most of the blokes I've been interested in over the years have often fallen into the stereotypical "loser" category (e.g. NEETs, lowly proletariats with minimum wage jobs, etc).

Anyhow, I don't think having regrets is something to be ashamed of, but wishing you hadn't dumped your former boyfriend because he is more well-off than your current one is pretty shallow to say the least. I like to see couples that are together because they genuinely love each other, as sappy as that sounds, rather than couples that only stick together because either one of them has a well-paid job and a nice house.

If you were unhappy with your current partner, just break up with them and find a new person you're happy with. Or just talk with them and help them find a job. Don't dwell in the past :c

I don't have a partner though :I

Wait... the OP makes it sounds like it's the other way around. Didn't that scenario had the girl dump the more successful boyfriend than dumping the unsuccessful one?

It's fine to think like that. It's much worse to pretend everything is great and your boyfriend isn't a loser, when in reality he's not doing anything for you. That's dangerous.
However, if you do think something like that, you should also think 'How successful am I? What do I do for him?'. There's a chance that you're no better, and would be dragging down the former partner in the same way that you believe the later partner is dragging you down.
If you're successful and your partner is lazy and reluctant to change... if that annoys you: it's fine to be annoyed, and it's fine to leave them. You're not obliged to stick around in misery.
