True, but I agree with the other guy who said a Texan accent was just wrong.

They could've picked anything else, but Texan?

This is just a guess:

I'm assuming that the Kansai accent is relative to the Southern accent. I don't hear it as the Texan accent, but rather Southern - like Mississippi, Alabama, or Georgia. Since the voice acting is done in English -- there must be a similar and relative variant to the English language as far as accents go.

In the case of Osaka, in the Japanese voice, they treated her accent as... "slow" or "aloof". We view the Southern accent in a similar fashion. Living here in the Midwest, I make it easy to make fun of Southerners. XD

Unless it's Osaka I HATE Texan accents.

I like both versions. I haven't seen any dubs that I dislike lately, but whatever is available. If I'm watching it on the net, it's subbed and I will like it. Otherwise, dub.

I acctually enjoyed JAP on DBZ more than DB... Once you gets used to the Jap voice instead of hearing everthing in the head ENGLISH, Japanese DBZ is so much better!

Always? No. Mostly? Yes.

These days I always try the English dub of the unwatched series I own on DVD. If the dub is high quality, then I'm happy to watch the animation flow and not keep looking at the bottom of the screen. However, the Japanese track tends to be vastly superior to the English track, so I usually end up reading subtitles.

I wouln't enjoy watching Naruto without hearing Chie as Sakura, or watching Death Note without hearing Mamoru(sp?) as Light. When the Japanese get it right, American voices cannot compete.

I prefer the Japanese version of an anime over the English version because sometimes the english version has changed or taken out words as well as scenes. One Piece is a perfect example of this.

When 4kids owned it, that was true and while it was airing on Cartoon Network(for obvious reasons) but that kind of editing rarely ever happens now unless it's licensed by a company like 4kids, Nelvana, etc.

As far as words being changed and taken out, it happens in subs too. Fansubs and dub translations are never perfect.

I personally find Elfen Lied & xxxHOLiC better in english dubs. I don't hate dubs..I just find that the VAs don't put in enough emotion.
But even so I prefer Yuuko's english VA because the japanese seiyuu lacked that mysterious side of Yuuko...There was only the childish side >.< And Yuuko is more mysterious than childish.

I pretty much always watch Japanese audio with english subs. That seems to pretty much always be the best bet. There are a few rare cases where the English dub is as good as the Japanese, but that does not happen too often.

I haven't watched a lot of dubbed anime, but from the little I've seen, it's mostly bad. At least not nearly as good as the japanese voice acting.

So I always stick to japanese audio while watching anime.

There are some instances where I can't stand the japanese voice acting though; Dragon Ball. But I have seen neither the japanese or english version of it so I can't really compare them.

I watch all of my anime with subtitles cause it feels more authentic that way and I like reading subtitles in general.

The only way I've ever watched it in dubs is if I can't find it subbed and I'm really interested in it. If I find an anime I wanted to watch that I can only find in dubs and I'm not overly fussed about it, I'll not watch it...

Oh, that and the english voices are usually over the top and fake in my experience and it pisses me off.

I prefer dubs but if I really want to watch the show badly, I'll watch it in Japanese. But there are some show's I'd never watch in Japanese and some I'd never watch in English.

Shows I'd only watch dubbed: Cowboy Bebop, Afro Samurai, Anything Ghost in the Shell or Evangelion related (complexity+subtitles= no fun), Nerima Daikon Brothers, and Azumanga Daioh because the majority of the jokes I've seen from the Japanese version were Japanese language puns that wouldn't be understood by the common American.

Shows I'd only watch in Japanese: One Piece (If I didn't drop it, that is), Death Note because I'm too used to the official subs on Hulu, Yu-Gi-Oh (if someone put a gun to my head) and any show that doesn't have a dub like Monster or Kaiji.

I'm annoyed by the dub hate because dubbing is hard work and it's probably extremely difficult to dub an anime into a completely different language. Plus, not all dubbers change things like 4Kids, Nelvana or Harmony Gold did. Then there's the issue of fansubs, which I'd avoid if at all possible because they hurt the industry, they have annoying fonts unlike official subs, and finally I don't trust a fan to do a paid translator's job.

I wonder if these dub haters have a problem with the Japanese dubbing American movies because they surely don't watch foreign movies subtitled.

Jap sub are always the best, my only problem is somtimes they are not subbed properly.
Dub get the translation right but can censor loads of stuff, also some of the really strong american accents can really ruin the mood (Not saying I dislike Americans just they choose really weird voice actors that ruin the mood)

Only dub that beats sub is Dragonballl sagas, sub just sounds really gay.

Definitely original! When they dub series, it often sounds terrible because they just don't have the natural anime expressions as the Japanese voice actors/actresses do :S They end up sounding awful. But there are a few decent dubbed anime series though.

That's because no trained voice actors want to stamp their names on hentai. :p If you look hard enough, you might find some of the fan-dub projects of hentai that actually sound decent.

As far as official dubs go though, I'm forced to agree with you in almost every case. Bible Black's English dub raped my mind.

I don't go either way, it's just whatever I watch first. However, some that I must go a certain way:

Cowboy Bebop and Death Note: Dubbed. Bebop was like.. The best English dub I've ever heard.

Evangelion: Subbed, but only for one character: Kensuke. God damn, his voice is horrid in the dub.
My current anime list is grossly, out of date, just so you know.

I can think of a number of series where the English is quite a bit better than the Japanese. This is usually the case because the English cast is really distinctive whereas the Japanese is pretty common. Some examples:

Inuyasha
Bleach
Princess Mononoke
Fullmetal Alchemist
Cowboy Bebop

There are also some cases where the Japanese cast is better than the English - Blood+ comes to mind.

But if they're both pretty good, I usually watch it in Japanese so I can learn the language more and because it matches up with the mouths better.

... pretty much. Dubs can be decent or good even, but they are usually never better than the original version, though there may be a few exceptions out there I have encountered none thus far (partially because I don't watch dubs often).
