That said, as I was dropping Death Parade, it started getting better in the previous two episodes, so I'm still watching, but it's still a valid example. |

I just can't get myself to watch the Monogatari-series, Steins;Gate, Dragonball, Clannad or other "Must-Watch"-anime , I have seen approx. 3 out of 30 series from the Top Anime TV Series list. I have no clue why? I am a rather active watcher, so I don't get it? I am aware of the fact that there have to be reasons for so many people liking this shows, but most of the time I don't like them that much. Can anyone relate to this? D: |

| I think you just need to work on pinpointing what you like about the shows you like, and what you dislike about the shows you dislike. The better you can figure that out, the more likely you are to be able to identify other shows you would like/dislike, and you'd likely be able to get better recommendations as well. As for the shows you've watched, you need to keep in mind that people generally have one of a few ideas in mind when you ask for "must watch" anime. The first is beginner-friendly anime, or anime people are more likely to enjoy if they view the medium as "odd" overall- they serve as icebreakers, in a sense. The second is just commonly-loved anime; they're very popular/highly acclaimed by many users who like the genre- this may or may not apply for your taste, however. The third is historical/important anime from a trope perspective, meaning anime that helped define or dramatically change genres. (Since you seem interested in this last group, I would point you to this list.) In any case, you obviously don't "need" to watch any of the above. It varies depending on your view of the anime medium, your taste, and your interest in different genres. Even though you seem to be looking for specific traits, it's good that you're willing to broaden your horizons (that automatically makes you more interesting to talk to than most imo). You don't even need to watch new anime to figure out what you like. Just examine the anime you've already watched and extrapolate from there. Side note: One Piece was my first anime and a (in that I watched some of it before I even knew what anime was) favorite, and as far as I can tell we both love Katanagatari. I don't see that too often. :o |
