| You know what I'll just assume everything 1.Shirou vs Archer (UBW Answer) Easily the best fight in the whole of the visual novel, and the whole Fate franchise. Not because it's flashy or amazing in terms of power or anything-not to say that there weren't cool moments in those terms in it-but because of the emotional weight behind it, Shirou's decisions and thoughts and the conclusion that both Archer and Shirou receive as a result of the fight. Added points for post credits Archers POV. 2.Shirou vs Saber (HF Sparks Liner High) Shirou's character arc in HF ultimately leads to him killing Saber, who had saved him, in his decision to save Sakura, so this is maybe the most thematically relevant battle in the whole VN. Well, actually no, because this is a bad end and the "actual" fight is in Crazy Train II, but nevertheless the weight of that is carried over here too. And this is, in a word, awesome. Even the Taiga Dojo acknowledges that it's such an amazing end you could consider it an "alternate end" to HF. Saber and Shirou's exchange, Shirou breaking well past his limits and Saber's last words and thoughts all make this great. 3.Shirou vs Kirei (HF All the Evils of the World) Once more a fight that isn't too flashy, but is relevant and weighty in other terms. Kirei's character developed well throughout HF and it comes to an appropriate and needed conclusion here, where two ideals and two incredibly GAR motherfuckers fight it out in a battle of fists. Both Kirei's and Shirou's resolve here to keep going despite both being basically dead, one for what he has lived for and one for the woman he has chosen to live for, made this even more incredible. 4.Shirou vs Gilgamesh (UBW Unlimited Blade Works) Holy shit, who even saw this one coming, right? Shirou's character arc in UBW also ends here, in an amazing way, with his internal thoughts being a highlight as well. Gilgamesh getting owned by Shirou and Shirou's sheer badassery upped this fight a lot (Do you have enough swords at your disposal, King of Heroes?) And Shirou's realization of his own UBW chant, differing from Archers on important points, made this fight great. I am the bone of my sword Steel is my body and fire is my blood I have created over a thousand blades Unaware of loss, Nor aware of gain Withstood pain to create weapons, waiting for one’s arrival I have no regrets. This is the only path My whole life was unlimited blade works 5.Kiritsugu vs Kirei (F/Z Final Battle) Huh, making this list made me realize I prefer battles like this over those overly flashy super powered ones. Kiritsugu vs Kirei was once again a battle that managed to have a lot of weight on it (one of two in F/Z I consider to have that). And all in all the clash of Kerry and Kirei's methods and ideals, in the same way as Shirou and Kirei's (though not as well executed) felt great to watch, and while the fight was interrupted, it was a great conclusion. 6.Shirou vs Berserker (HF Nine Bullet Revolver) Like SLH, this is an amazing fight. Rather than Sakura, this one is more about Shirou protecting Illya, but is also relevant to his decision in HF as a whole. It is the first time he takes off the shroud, and Archer's appearance was so full of GAR my brain overheated. NLBW vs Berserker and Berserkers last look at Illya towards the end were also great. 7.Saber vs Gilgamesh (Fate Fate/Stay Night II) 8.Shirou and Rider vs Saber Alter (HF Crazy Train II) 9.Rin Vs Sakura (HF Gem Sword Zelretch) 10.Saber vs Rider (Fate Sword of Promised Victory) 11.Saber vs Berserker (F/Z Underground Battle) 12.Lancer vs Archer (UBW Lance of Sure Hit, Shield of no Loss) 13.Gilgamesh Vs F/Z Berserker (F/Z Dogfight) 14.Saber vs Kuzuki (UBW Poisonous Snake, Jack of All trades) 15.Gilgamesh vs Rider (F/Z Battle on the Bridge) 16.Saber vs Berserker (Fate Twelve Labours) 17.Saber vs F.Assassin (UBW Unnamed Great Style) 18.Kirei vs True Assassin and Zouken (HF Battle in the Forest Overload) Might add more or make changes later. |

| Visual novel: Saber vs Gil-kun (Fate) Shirou vs Archer (UBW) Shirou vs Gil-kun (UBW) Shirou vs Saber (HF SPARKS HIGH LINER END AWWW YEAAAHHH) Dark Sakura vs Rin w/Gem Sword (HF) Shirou vs Kotomine (HF) Anime-only: Archer vs Lancer. It was the first F/SN battle and had tons of EPIC, even utilizing blockbuster things like camera angles and Inception noises in order to enhance the atmosphere, but for some reason all the battles afterwards haven't quite have had that same amount of impact. ... Um, if I may be allowed to go out on a bit of a limb here, may I be allowed to say the Shirou & Saber vs Berserker battle in the Fate route from the DEENime? Sure, it wasn't that well animated or anything, and the anime itself wasn't very remarkable, not to mention the battle itself isn't nearly as popular as various others, but... Over six years ago now, when I saw Shirou put his all into projecting Caliburn and then holding it with Saber in order to defeat Berserker in a single strike...you know, there was something about it that was just beautiful beyond words. A nearly exhausted Saber and a mostly useless Shirou combining their powers in order to defeat an unstoppable giant with a bunch of remaining lives. Watching that scene ingrained it really deep down into my memory. It was just that memorable for me. In fact, I can say with confidence that that was the very moment I started being a fan of Fate/stay night in the first place, and if it wasn't for that scene, I probably wouldn't be here in this forum right now. Hence, I'm really fond of that battle, as well as how it ended. Every time I read through that scene in the VN, I get real big waves of nostalgia. It's really cliche compared to a lot of the other stuff, but hey, what can I say? I guess, in the end, I'm just a sucker for that kind of stuff. |

Yeah, the VN version's way better executed, and way more beautiful~ It's just that I saw the anime years before I even knew that F/SN was based off a VN, and it took me another few years or so until I actually tried it out. | Top 5 from VN and zero in no particular order: Shirou vs archer (ubw)-idealogy clash of the epicisest kind shirou vs gil (ubw)-sword spamming is awesome and that moment when shirou cuts of gil's arm before summoning ea is epic rin vs sakura (hf)-the music and the concept is just so cool with the dimensions and stuff. Also magical fight which you see on screen. saber vs rider (fate)-so dynamic even for a VN Gil vs berserker 2.0 (zero)-my dog is this an example of how to properly use CGI. Those epic camera movements and lighting effects and the music just amazing. |

| I find it a bit surprising only one person mentioned on Rider vs Saber in Fate. Archer catching Caster offguard in UBW when she paralyzes him was also really cool. I don't think I can properly rank the fights though. I can't remember much of what happened in HF, but I remember I liked Kirei vs True Assassin & Zouken. |

| Honestly to be more serious, I don't think Fate really has that great of fights but I don't think its the focus of the series so its really fine. My favorite fight is probably Archer vs Shirou in the Einzbern castle in UBW as its both a physical and psychological battle. |
| To be honest, none of the fights in UBW cour 1 makes it to the top list above anyway. XD All what is good comes with the second half. And the fights in the VN feel great mostly because of Nasu's fancy descriptions. |

| Anime-only, Lancer vs Archer and Lancer vs Saber are my favorites, because they're well-paced and well-coreographed. The other fights are all lacking in one way or another. In the VN, most of the fights were intense, but none of them felt amazing to me. I liked true assassin vs Saber and vs Kirei, I hope Ufotable does justice to them in the adaptation. If we stretch the definition of "fight" a bit, then the part when Shirou gets destroyed by Rider in Fate and realizes that he has to summon Saber is probably my favorite part of the VN. |
