Weaaboos are people who worship everything about and related to Japan. Basically delusional fucks. All weaaboos are otakus but not all otakus are weaaboos.

They're both shit imo. Have some variety in your life, please.

Weaboo - A negative term directed to anyone overly obsessed with Japanese culture to the point where they become annoying.Used frequently on the image boards of 4chan.

Most weaboos are uneducated about their obsession of choice and are often noobs who are overly zealous, trying to impress others with their otaku knowledge. Another trait of a weaboo is their desire to "be Japanese".

While the two terms are often fused together, weaboos are very different from anime fans or enthusiasts. A fan may be just as enthusiastic and knowlegable
about Japanese culture, mainly anime, but they neither boast about their knowledge nor call themselves otaku(because of its known negative connatation).

What do you mean nowadays? The term weaboo has been around and used for over a decade.

But you don't want to be either an otaku or weaboo. They're terms to describe cringy people who prioritize anime over their social lives.

I honestly think that most people on this website qualify as otakus, to at least some degree, (emphasis on the "to at least some degree") and if you say otherwise then you're just in denial. I mean, come on, just think about it.
It's not a bad thing, it just means you like anime and manga and all that crap, and if you didn't you wouldn't be here.
Now weeaboo, that's the bad thing. That's just downright annoying and maybe borderline insane.

Otaku are people who enjoy manga/anime culture IMO which is okay. Weeaboos are fat retards that think that japanese girls/boys look as cute as they do in anime/manga. They insult Japan by thinking that 'kawaii' culture is all there is to Japan.

P.S. I'd tap them anime girls too but guess what.....they're not real.
P.S.S. Papa Franku explains this shit nicely in his video. Check it out. May be a little over the top but in the end it's true.

Some otakus are weebs. Some weebs are otakus.

Tbh, both go hand in hand, and its possible to be both. I think I am both, personally, and I'm okay with that. I know I'm a weeb, and honestly, being called a weeb is like the worst insult anyone could ever give me tbh.

I can tolerate some Otaku as long as they're nice and friendly but that's a very very small number. I'm considered Otaku by Japanese standards but I'm not really that obsessed tbh as anime is like a second tier hobby for me anyways lol. Probably cuz dat library size doe.

Weeaboos are IRL scum, only Bronies and Sonic furries are worse, kill them all with fire.

Otaku has pretty much become a loose term in Japan to mean you have a very obsessive (though the Japanese tend to soften the colloquial meaning you are knowledgable) about something. Not just in relation to anime, but there are people who are "Train Otaku" or "Military Otaku." Like my co-worker in Japan lives pro-wrestling and he is in his mid-50s. I was a big fan of it growing up in the 1980s and how I know about Japanese pro-wrestling and he says "I'm a wrestling otaku, too."

I think throughout the 90s it was more of a negative term (thanks to Miyazaki Tsutomu, a child killer) but since the mid-2000s thanks to Densha Otoko, it has progressively been becoming more loose to mean you are obsessed about something and it can range from anything these days.

Weeaboos just mostly apply to non-Japanese people who think they know everything there is to know about Japan through anime when a large percentage of it as false representation of Japan. You are not going to see school girls running through neighborhoods with a slice of toast in their mouth in Japan. In real life, eating while standing or walking is considered rude in japan because it is disrespectful to the farmers and the people who made the food. I see teachers and parents yelling at kids on the streets for doing that every now and then.

Well, your profile also says you live in Japan too so living here and see it first hand you do know it lol.

I never visited Japan in the 90s and I sporadically visited throughout the 2000s and have been living here since 2009 (though I did in short study abroad in 2001 and did a work study in 2006) and have seen the use of the word otaku change throughout my stay(s). But from my understanding it was a negative term between the late 80s and throughout the 90s.
-----------------------------------------------------
But with weeaboos these days, I wonder if they are young enough to remember to believe back in the day, western anime fans thought the word "anime" was originally French and it was a "gairaigo" from the French language. Believe me, I was one of those fans in the 90s.

Weebs are those who reject their own culture and want to be Japanese because it's the best thing ever. Usually they're really ignorant and vocal, which is a terrible combination no matter how you look at it. Otaku is just a general term to describe someone with an obsessive personality.

I'd much rather be friends with an otaku.

You can buy lossless digital music from your favorite Japanese artists on https://ototoy.jp/.
The songs are all DRM-free and you can re-download your purchased albums as you wish.
Show your support to your favorite artist if you can!
ps. if you are looking for Japanese albums, you have to search it in Japanese (not romaji). Just copy and paste the name.

According to the internet now, if you know that Japan even exist you are a weeboo, so am not surprised there has been a great rise.
Basically is just a word you use to insult someone but can only work if you know you can connect the guy to something Japanese whatever that may be.

Otakus (In America) - otakus are individuals who are fond of Anime, manga, and the Japan culture a little.

Weaboo - A weaboo believes that Japanese culture in general is far superior than any other. They also know very little about the actually Japanese culture, outside of Anime and manga.

Otakus (In Japan) - They are consider low-life, NEETS that love anime and manga. They have a very strong obsession with anything they find fun.

I hope this helps!

I don't even know the difference anymore.

My young cousin, who is extremely geeky and VERY into every non-anime fandom like dr who, harry potter, twilight, and all stuff along those lines... and VERY into every anime fad that comes along and particularly BL, fan art, writing stories on it, etc... called me a weaboo because of my room. And considering I used to babysit this kid, I wanted to cuff her for the attitude she had when she said it (not to mention the hypocrisy).

So I really don't get it. I think people throw it around too freely. I thought it was supposed to be someone totally obsessed with Japan and everything about the culture, language, anime, etc. Like, someone who seems to wish they were Japanese, not just someone obsessed with anime alone.

So I was under the impression
Otaku= obsessed with anime/manga and maybe fond of Japanese culture
Weaboo= obsessed with all things Japanese.

I think I might count as an otaku, but not a weaboo. I don't know why it irritated me so much that my cousin said that, but it felt like she was *trying* to insult me, and it took me aback coming from my baby cousin out of the blue like that.
