I am really confused because I see more and more people watching anime now, I mean like grown ass thugs are watching the shit out of this stuff and at my school and all my other IRL friends school the popular jock people are starting to talk about it and watch it now. Is eastern media starting to be accepted by the west now?

By watching anime do you mean watching Afro-Samurai?

Well, my brother's girlfriend still thinks she's top-shit because she doesn't play video games, or watch anime, and my parent's friend is able to say with total certainty that she "hates Japanese cartoons" when all she's seen is what's on Cartoon Network.

It is becoming more acceptable, but there are still a lot of ignorant douchebags who think they're incredible because they look down on anyone who enjoys stereotypical nerd hobbies.

My brother's gf pisses me off more than anything though. She's so judgemental about freaking everything. She complains about how much she hates her life all the time and she never tries to do anything different.

I don't know about more accepted, but it's more recognized at least, for better or worse.

Full on jock, complete with a obsession with lacrosse and football, all they wear is Nike gear, Streamline brand socks, Elite Nike socks, they wear shorts all the time regardless of the weather, etc.

I don't really think so. A better word than accepted would be acknowledged. More people are starting to realize Dragon Ball Z, Pokemon, etc. are classified as Anime, and not American cartoons. It still takes an immense amount of peer pressure (for my friends at least) to get my non-Otaku friends to watch an anime. Though I will not deny SnK has spawned the birth of many new Otakus recently.

I feel it's much more accepted between teenagers nowadays than it was 10 years ago.
But still...

I think a lot more people are noticing Anime thanks to series like Attack on Titan, Naruto, Sword Art Online etc but it's still uncharted waters for a lot of people.

I don't see how it's more "accepted" than it is in the past.

Non-watchers are just as indifferent to anime then as they are now.

Some people watch anime just to cosplay a character they want to show off. If you ask the about a particular episode, they won't remember.

I dunno if I've ever seen someone cosplay a character they don't even know. That's pretty weird. :o

I met Toradora cosplayers at my last con. That was exciting, since I hadn't seen any before. There was a Taiga, Minorin, and Ami. I had to go talk to them and congratulate them for being awesome.

My girlfriend left me because she find out that I m watching anime sometimes.

and after seeing Yosuga no sora in my list rated so high she called me and said that I am sick sisterfucker and that I disgust her and that she hates me and don't want to see me ever again. :(

...should I cry now something like "anime destroyed my life" or what?

That should be illegal as it is Anime/Manga discrimination. Send those fools to the pit of the volcano

i wouldnt call it accepted, but a loooot of the generation thats coming of age rn grew up watching anime, so its a bit more accepted than it used to be. like, everyone that was a weird middle schooler in 2005 watched death note, thats just something that happened, and a lot of those people went on to become relatively normal adults, or at least only slight nerds. but no i dont think the masses are gonna ever be down for anything beyond maybe some ghibli stuff.

I think it is, at least around where I live. Anime/manga fans were easy targets to pick on at school, but now that's hardly a problem.

Its no different then when every kid watched pokemon, and collected pokemon cards.

And as people get older they may deny they watch cartoons or anime.
Some will keep it a secret, others would just enjoy, and some will lose the taste for it.

I want to say that anime is getting more fans and it seems like they're quickly trying to make it a part of their lives. It's cool.
More people than I've ever imagined are getting into anime, or at least claim that they're into it. Many have even decided that they already want to go to cons. The thing is that they're usually into the reeeally mainstream anime like Naruto or Attack on Titan. If they stick with anime, they'll delve deeper though.

I'm honestly really surprised at how much attention AoT has garnered from people that have "never watched an anime series in their entire life". I'm even more surprised that they're seeking more anime after finishing AoT. I'm super surprised to hear them ask me for recommendations: stuff that's dubbed, preferably on Netflix. I'm not a big fan of the selection on Netflix, but I'm really happy to know that the new folk aren't afraid of dubs.

The new folk are so new that most anime-related references will fly over their heads; I have a feeling that they're going to stay that new for a long time. It's okay, I was in that phase for years, mostly because I didn't know my way around the internet in elementary school (and had dial up). Soon enough, they'll be making accounts on here and I can recruit them into my bad-taste-in-anime club. 8^)

I saw a well known senior, who's on the football team, watch Naruto in class, have a anime babe who's sucking on a Popsicle with tits the size of melons as a desktop, and discussed the latest chapter on Naruto with our Stats teacher.

No one said a thing.

I moved schools from an inner city school to a well off mostly white suburb. Here they accept so much more than people do in the inner city school.

I've heard popular soccer players talking about going to Pokemon card tourneys in Indy on weekends without anyone raising an eyebrow.

At my previous school the ones who watched anime usually were your typical semi-socially 'special' kids who thought it was edgy or whatever. Not saying there's a few weird anime tards here.

They've got a freaking anime and manga club here.

I checked it out. Was surprised by how normal some of the members were. So I guess it's where you live and how ignorant people are.

In the end if you are comfortable with it, you are comfortable with it.
Some people are more open minded then others, some people are raised to see things differently and more narrowly.

You needa be white, upper middle class, and did I mention white? Really nice town to live in. There are some really rich folk up here. Just an example of how rich these people are, kids drive Mustangs and Mercedes-Benz's to school. I feel so poor ;_;

Somewhat, though it still has a long way to go. I'm one of the biggest anime watchers out of all of my friends though most of them enjoy it at least on a casual basis.

I can usually strike up a conversation with at least one person at any random store I go to about anime. FYE, Hot Topic, Barnes and Noble etc. Even somewhere as random as TJ Maxx haha

Maybe true for you, but here, in my place, nah... still considered as weird shit or kid cartoons. People compare anime to Tom n Jerry. They think manga are just like noddy or Dora picture books; I've given up. Surely they think 'Ecchi' is the name of some random anime kid lol.

Anime isn't entirely accepted but people are becoming aware of the difference between anime and cartoons. The ignorant views about Anime being cartoons has simmered down quite some bit.
