Hey everyone I'm simply looking for a realistic anime where the characters actually look like humans. You know, people with normal sized eyes, NOT a cast filled with people with pink, green hair, etc. etc. A couple good examples would be Zankyou no Terror and Ghost in the Shell.

Besides that I'm not looking for something too specific, but I'd prefer the anime to be more realistic and serious.

Thanks!

Who cares if you consider it to be moe? The people in this anime look plenty realistic to me.

I swear you constantly complain about everything.

@ Skudoops yeah, but 1 person out of a whole cast isn't too bad. She's just got a shitty hairdo. Anyways thanks for the recs

B-b-but, isn't the point of anime to NOT watch those hideous things?

Damn, I know you're trolling but this is just hilarious.

@OP:
I'd second Perfect Blue and any other Satoshi movies (btw, this cover art for the movie is WAT better than the current one on its MAL page)
And since you want realistic character designs, why not awesome backgrounds as well? Go for Shinkai, Isao Takahata and Mamoru Hosoda movies as well.

You should be, then. I didn't even bring up studios and such.
I'm not sure of what you're taking as "moe".
If it's the japanese slag for "cute" and "over the top kawainess", mostly concentrated around female young bishoujo and/or loli franchises, I fail to see Zankyou as an example...

Or maybe Rainbow: nisha rokubou no shichinin > http://myanimelist.net/anime/6114/Rainbow:_Nisha_Rokubou_no_Shichinin

You should google what moe means, because you are wrong.

Then you should cross reference it to what people on mal use Moe for.

Then you should stop trying so hard to sound intelligent.

Never said it was ugly.

just that it looks extremely modern, which is what everyone here is crying about. modern art where the characters look attractive and not like michael j fox drew them.

What I said:
the japanese slag for "cute" and "over the top kawainess"[/b], mostly concentrated around female young bishoujo and/or loli franchises
What Wikipedia/Urban Dictionary and Word Reference says:
The word has come to be used to mean one particular kind of "adorable", one specific type of "cute", mainly as applied to fictional characters.
...
A Japanese slang term (ironically, first employed by otaku) used to refer to the fetish for or sexual attraction to idealized people, usually a fictional perfect young girl.

Caption says: A moe girl

About cross referencing with MAL uses for "moe":
I don't care what MAL projects that this word means, and I see you're part of these.
Coming from the same community which has no idea of what "pretentions" "edgy" "masterpiece" means, it's no surprise.

Studios and directors matter when it comes to character designs. Production I.G, Madhouse, and Brains-Base have a number of shows with somewhat realistic character models like

Real Drive
Seirei no Moribito
Psycho-Pass
Monster
Chihayafuru
Claymore
Kurenai
Baccano!

In general, I find shows with adult casts and mature themes more often use realistic character models. Hyouge Mono by Bee-Train, and Nodame Cantabile by J.C. Staff, are examples.

Since most anime are adapted from other media, the character designs often reflect the tastes of the manga-ka as much as the anime production team.

I think OP wants anime with characters that look more mature or suit their ages, not lolis and childish highschoolers and ridiculously big boobs and pigtails and innocent eyes and whatever.

My recommendations:
Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou
Eve no Jikan

Check the Ghibli stuff. Specially in the case of Only yesterday (very emphasized, the animation of the scenes in the present timeline used real acting as a model), Whisper of the heart, The wind rises or Grave of the fireflies.

I would say shinsekai yori.
The characteres dont have pink, greeen, blue hair and these stuff.
The animation in the first episode is not good, But in the 2 the art is getting better and better.

Well, i know this sounds weird but in shinsekai yori the characteres are really realistics if we think about it.. A world with a utopic society 1000 years in the future where the humans can control the 100% of their brain. The main characteres are saki, mamoru, maria, shun and satoru. There's another one but he/she never appears, you will understend this if you watch the first episode.
If we talk about the personalities they're really realistics, their decicions and all.
Just ask yourself how would you be if you're in a society who looks perfect, but the true is that it is blood-stained and the world were you live is not what you think it is. Well anyways: the story is really serious. It makes you think about a lot of things. The eyes size are not the more realistic thing but well xD.

I can tell you about what the story's about if you want to; (geez i love this anime i can talk about this all the day)

1000 years in the future, the humans can control the 100% of their brain, they can move or destroy everything they want to with just think about it. The civilization have been destroyed, The rest of the humans lives in a utopic society Anything that threatens this society, is eliminated. The world looks perfect, but it is bloodstained. Your parents are not who you think they're. Yours friends can dissapear in just a second, your world can be destroyed so easily. When the characteres discover the truth about their society is when their adventure begins.

i can give you a picture of the animation;
http://i1246.photobucket.com/albums/gg612/mbeqiyutz/filesindowebstercom-_Shinsekai_Yori_-_05_mkv_snapshot_0050_20121028_025611.jpg Something like that. But the main characteres change, and the animation also change tbh.

The music is really great ill put here a youtube video link;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FVpwYCbUlc

Oh, there is a girl with red hair hair. But that is realistic too. is like redhead idk

Some people dropped the story bec a couple of things, it have a slow start and have "some things" that you probably wont like. But i can be sure; if you finish shinsekai yori you wont regret it. ewe well thats all. My main character is spanish sorry if i made a mistake. And sorry for the long answer xD
