Any animes you thought wouldn't be as a good as you thought they would, but ended up loving them?

I recently started watching Oda no Yabou and expected it to be a Sengoku Period based harem starring Oda Nobuna, but it's actually incredibly plot driven and the fan service is very, very limited. Beautiful art and animations.

Honey and Clover
The animation kinda turned me off (and the fact that Hagu looks like a loli despite being "18")but when I kept watching I was hooked.

I thought Yabou was quite good from the start. Very entertaining series

Have to agree about Oda Nobuna no Yabou. Had some delicious lolis.

I enjoyed Denpa Onna a lot more than I had expected I would.

That doesn't sound like agreement to me. More like you liked what they didn't want to see in it.

Well, it's never happened to me, I have good intuition. That, and I know quality production and well devised pandering when I see it.

Kiddy Grade. When it first came out and I saw the ads, I was positive that it would be some shallow fanservice show with absolutely not worth whatsoever. Years later, I saw it and fell in love with the themes of immortality and social justice that it explored. It's still got shallow fanservice, but the story lets me look past that.

I've actually never dropped an anime because I found it unrewarding. I expected Oda no Yabou to be good, but not actually that good. I was actually thinking it would be a full on harem like Nisekoi, but I was incredibly pleasantly surprised at how forward the show is with the plot.

I absolutely agree with you on The Ambition of Oda Nobuna. I did not expect it to be so good. I hope there will be a 2nd season.
And other example of this is Bunny Drop. I incredibly hesitated to watch this. After I read the synopsis, I hesitated even more. But, I ended up liking it & became one of my favourites. It is a masterpiece.
I like anime.

No Game No Life. The hype was almost too much for me to watch it, but I caved in eventually. It's pretty entertaining.

Any slice of life anime ever. I avoided them when I almost exclusively watched edgy action anime. How wrong I was. That was a long time ago, though.

Interesting. I believed NGNL was overhyped as well. My friends incessantly bugged me to watch it, so I finally gave in ... it was the best 6 hours of my life this month haha.

i guess i could say Pretty Rhythm.

I remember when the first season was just being uploaded on the site. i saw the synopsis and wasn't really interested. MUCH later, i tried out Rainbow live (third season) and was hooked pleasantly surprised, then when i caught up to the newest episode of rainbow live, i went back to watch Aurora Dream (first season) and enjoyed it alot. and of course rainbow live was splendid all the way through as well, maybe even better.

I don't want to say this but there is a thread about the same topic.. with the very same title! are you an alt of that person or?.. this is not merely a coincidence

anyway I'll go with TTGL.. I think the art and animation is a little off not to mention the protagonist was a wimpy kid.. but now it's one of my favorites.

edit: nvm me the title was a tad different

Kill la Kill for me

i remember my reaction to the first episode was like: "this is as trippy as FLCL" (i didn't really handle FLCL that well), and then i thought that it was worth a shot, 4 ep rule and i regret nothing

I'm also gonna agree on Oda Nobuna. I didn't expect much from the first episode, but for whatever the reason, it looked great, it played out great, and it actually tried to be relatively historically accurate. Sans the whole gender bending thing, but even then it just added to the fun of the show. Definitely wasn't perfect, but I was glad I watched it.

Anyways, for a show I've recently watched, Yosuga no Sora.

well, you should.

Enjoyed SAO more than I thought. Not really into this type of anime, but it was totally worth it. Kirito will be a bitch in S2. Not sure if I want to see it. Probably not.

Enjoyed Selector Infected Wixoss this season. Bite me. I thought that, for what it was, it was pretty great.

No Game No Life, too. I was disgusted by the astronomical score it had (has) on the site... but I eventually decided to watch it. I regret nothing.

Durarara. It looked really stupid and boring at first, but turned out to be one of my favourites in the end. So interesting characters and for the first time i actually found the whole gang thing quite interesting. Can't wait for season 2.

Black butler too. Just the name sounded weird, and it took me more than a year to watch it. I'm glad i did though.

Higurashi, i'm more of an action instead of gore person. But i actually enjoyed this.

Gregory horror show
This anime at first just seemed like a boring bad horror type anime but I gave it a look as the episodes are really short and ended up enjoying it

Selector infected wixoss
I actually dropped wixoss at first because I was bored of it but people kept going on how much better it got so I decided to watch about two more episodes and enjoyed it

When I first started watching anime I hated manga. Then I slowly started reading manga and never liked the ones without romance. Long story short Berserk,Vagabond, Dorohedoro, Vinland Saga, and parasyte were all manga I would have hated to read back then but now I love em.

Steins gate and full metal brotherhood. Steins gate was boring at the start, and I wanted it to go somewhere. 25 episodes and 1 movie later, it's one of the only shows I gave a 10/10. And at first I thought full metal would be some kid show like Pokemon. I've since learned not to judge anything by its cover.
I didn't come here to play, I came to win. Now lets play.

I Couldn't Become a Hero, So I Reluctantly Decided to Get a Job.

Reading only the title, I thought it was gonna be an anime based on reality without ANY supernatural or fantasy or scifi elements but man I was way wrong and its a damn great show.

If by supernatural and fantasy and scifi elements you mean how the girls boob-sizes - and movements can obviuosly only be explained by magic and maybe some alien powers, then yes, it has those elements.

School Days. It's the only anime I started watching because I heard so much bad about it. However I ended up enjoying it a fair bit, particularly the ending.

With the aforementioned as an exception I always pick shows I think I'll enjoy, thus I never watch those I don't think I'll enjoy.

Earl and Fairy. An odd Victorian-esque fantasy anime about a fairy doctor and an Earl who wants to rule the fairy realms.

Sounded girly. Looked girly. Was girly. Somehow I still really liked it.

Suisei no Gargantia:

I'm not really a fan of mecha anime, most of the time I dont even give those a chanse.
But with this one I decided to give it a try and found myself really enjoying it!

Every week I was excited for the next episode, hoping it to be even better than the earlyer ones.

It took place in a different but beautifull world and I liked the fact that Ledo(MC) acted more and more like a normal human every episode.

I liked the story alot and it made me more interested in other mecha, even thoug I'm still skipping them most of the time xP
