Perfect characters in anime: What's your take?

In many recent anime like SAO, AoT and Mahouka we have characters that are perfect and have no flaws, ridiculous plot armour and are chick magnets, honestly i've seen less obvious Gary Stu's and Mary Sue's in fanfiction. Admittedly these shows have way more problems than their dull MC's but they would benefit enormously from having more flawed and human characters.

Hey the MC in Mahouka is not perfect otherwise he would be course 1 student.
Yeah, I can't even convince myself.

Who's the Gary Stu in AoT though? Levy?
I probably regret this post by now.

The AoT mc wasn't a gary stu.

He was an emotional bitch of a character who couldn't control himself to save his life. He's not even all that strong.
☕ Truth be told, I'm quite proud of my house blend. To attain my flavor and fragrance, I use five different types of coffee beans. ☕

He's a supporting character and he's not fleshed out enough to bother calling him a gary stu. He's just "that guy" who's strong and he knows what he's doing.

Well, Levy didn't bother me because he wasn't the MC. Nothing wrong with having that overpowered senpai/sensei character in a battle shounen like AoT imo.

Mahouka is an obvious case but I actually enjoy that about the MC, the show would probably be less interesting if he wasn't as capable as he is, because a lot of the rest of the show sucks.

SAO is just bad, nothing to discuss here, Kirito was not the main problem but still a part of it.

I can't say these character types are always good or bad, it depends on how they are implemented in their shows. NGNL is a pretty good example of how to make good use of a Gary Stu character.

Mahouka's MC perfect?

No, he really isn't.

Take a look at the show's title as a starting hint, The Irregular At Magic High School.

Though if you OP want to perceive him as perfect so be it.

Didn't think that minor and vague information warranted a spoilertag, but well.
And yeah, I wonder if that'll ever come up in the series. Challenge them to a weight-lifting contest or whatever and they don't stand a chance.

I just wanna see what's gonna happen with Mahouka. The Gary Stu doesn't even bother me cause I heard the story is suppose to get a lot better later on and I'm curious.

It is Madhouse so if it's a quality source material then it's bound to be good.

His only weakness so far is that he didn't make it as a course 1 student but he can compensate for that in dozens of ways so when it comes down to it it's not a relevant weakness at all. So far at least.

Absolutely.
Without his sister it would be an easy 8/10 so far, but given how she demands at least 1 or 2 minutes of pandering time each episode it's still a 6 with potential for more. Rarely have I watched a show with such a gap in enjoyment in each episode. BUT the potential overweighs the imouto so I just want to get to the lategame arcs that are supposed to be epic.

The discrimination in this anime is so exaggarated that it's nearly a parody, but somehow it's handled completely seriously. Why does the discrimination exist you ask? To make Tatsuya look cool, that's why.

There's no absolute meaning to be found in words. It's all relative, they are merely signifiers. Nothing has true borders. "Perfect" is an illusion, and that "illusion" is not real. "Real" is not of reality.

What is meaning!?

Well if you think about it, it makes sense that the heavy discrimination is there. In regular school, all you have is written work and shit which half of the school doesn't care about and the rest don't bother turning it into a competition, but in a magic school that puts you into classes you can be proud/ashamed of due to it being based off natural magical skill, it's very easy to see why discrimination is as prominent as it is.

Didn't it all start because someone ordered the wrong uniforms by accident or something? I have to admit the backstory of the origin of discriminations was pretty lame. Not having enough teachers and then accidentally getting a batch of different-looking uniforums and deciding 'the lesser half of the students will wear those now and not get taught properly' needed my suspension of disbelief go SSY. And how does this problem stay unsolved and becomes established? Why not just recruit more teachers from future graduates?

You may have missed another of the MC's flaws which has been depicted albeit a bit more subtly in the early arcs. This flaw for me is a big factor for Tatsuya's imperfection and adds to his 'Irregular' classification. I guess it will be elaborated on a bit more on in later episodes. The discrimination theme will be elaborated upon more as well, your choice how you want to perceive it.

None of Tatsuya's weaknesses impede him from accomplishing his major endeavours. The anime is only paying lip-service to his imperfections. In reality, the dude is presented as being always right, can do whatever he puts his mind to (very very easily) and can make any girl's pantsu a dripping mess in two seconds flat.

Yeah you should've got the gist that the dude's pretty powerful but the forums topic is 'perfect' characters which I'm arguing he isn't. Also you should be trying to question why exactly he's been able to handle the situations that have been presented so far and we're in a world where magicians are equivalent to monsters and weapons, surely there are other poweful beings out there who will present themselves.

Not too sure on the pantsu dripping. Perhaps your over amplifying brocon imotou who's relationship with him will be explained more in later arcs and misunderstanding some others as well.
