Interesting episode, very promising development.

So we learn Ouri is actually alive, but the Shikabane cat (the dead children) is technically infused within him....

And the ending was quite surprising. Did they mention TENS of thousands of DEAD? (not all will turn, but even a hundred can be deadly) Welcome to Shikabane city......
bla bla bla

Wow, both animation and especially direction were fantastic in this episode. Great developments too and and the plot is finally making good sense (and not mentionning the themes are still very well treated), so I think I'll stop doubting Gainax from this day on, all they do is awesome (with very few exceptions I agree). And I like more and more this Masahiko Murata director, approximately all he did was good and still he's vastly underrated, so I'm rooting for him to enter the hall of fame of the forgotten and under-appreciated anime directors (the more striking example being Tatsuo Sato ;)

It's been so long, I've almost forgotten what had happened in the last episode.
All I can say is that the Shichisei really have a knack for artistic tragedies.

I'm not even sure what to say about this episode. I'm still confused on a lot of it, but now we know who the cat is, and happened with Oori's past. This is one heck of a plot. And now there's going to be so many shikabane that you have to wonder how things are going to turn out.
I reject your reality, and substitute my own.

Wow so now we know what the cat was! So in the end it was good after all. The kid's souls where watching over Ouri to see what he would choose, living or Shikabane. Now that it fused with him I wonder if he's gotten any new moves or power ups :P. Would be cool if he could use Shikabane moves along with his monk chants (aka. Undead Monk) haha.

We also found out Hokuto (sp?) is Makina's distant relative. That whole part was pretty lame in my opinion. So she was born and raised in a wooden box till it came time to kill her. I would think that in all that time she would at least form some kind of hatred for being locked up or being killed for no reason.

Things should get interesting now that the city has basically been turned into a battle zone for Shikabane's to fight.

Animation finally went back up to awesome status. Minorin's true self was revealed and pretty cool that it will support Oouri.Glad things are starting to pick up now and not rushed in the last 2 eps.

Well if she was completely shut way from the outside world since she was born, I guess it is still a possible.

And we still need to know the reason why Akasha killed his own Shikabane. As for the ep, it was really great and it was just WOW at the end.

it also seems to me that the rotting part of makina (keisei) is out of her body now that she has solely decided to have ouri as her contracted. the only thing i was expecting was ouri to win the battle on his own or throw out some uber move.

This is why I <3 GAINAX. everything was superb in this episode whereas previous one sort fell apart in one way or another (choppy animation, slow plot progression and such). definitely looking forward to how the last 4 episodes shape up.

That would kinda contradict wat was said before. Only a Shikabane Hime can kill a Shikabane.

The ep was good since Ouri didn't annoy the hell out of me and it was nice to learn more about that cat. I'm still waiting to see what Keisei's eye is gonna be used for. I hope for the love of god that it wasn't used by that stupid thing that dressed itself up as Keisei.

Well the episode was good but didn't move me mutch. So i'm gonna give it a 4/5!

Well, this is easily the best looking episode of the lot. Visually, for once, there was nothing wrong, and many things striking. I almost thought I was watching a completely different show.

With that said, I agree with DeathfireD, Hokuto's situation was super lame (I though she was killed as a baby, but I was wrong) and doesn' explain how her breasts grew 10 sizes (in the flashback they were just as big as they are now). The whole thing with Ouri was a bit of a bust, he was basically carried to full term with a dead mother, no revelations pertaining to Kougun. The cat stuff was dumb to me, but as I said before, necessary since there was no way in hell Ouri was going to get power by himself...but the whole thing with pushing the staff into the other guy with telekinesis was unexpectedly lame.

My main gripe is really with the philosophy of the show as a whole though. They tend to introduce all of the rules, only to break them an episode or two after talking about it. This whole thing with Hokuto not having a regret or nature is even more of the problem that I have with them even trying to force the issue of regret/nature in the first place. It's just a bad exercise in semantics.

About Makina's underwear, or lack-there-of: I'm sure she just doesn't care, I mean who would with that fabulous body. She's just wearing enough so that she won't get arrested in public or something like that. Now that that mystery is solved I can focus on the plot again.

Oori is a Shikabane's child, Hokuto is an unmotivated Shikabane and therefore stronger than all the other Shikabane (except Makina) and the cat is an amalgam (thanks Blassreiter!) of a few dozen dead babies and fused with Oori to give him ever lamer moves than yelling jutsu something.
As silly as all of that sounds this episode was very entertaining and definately the best out of the 22 we've seen so far. If they can keep this pace up till the end of Kuro I'm giving it an 8, something that seemed unlikely at the beginning of Aka.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that Hokuto's boobs are unnaturally (get it :P) huge, noteDhero. I guess it's the result of having nothing to do for your entire life but massage them to make them bigger.

It's true. They jumped from a size A to a C and they've been growing at a steady pace ever since. I suspect the last episode the boobs will be as big as her and will have spikes coming from them to fight Ouri and crew.

Well, Blassreiter used amalgam in every single episode, often multiple times. It's the only reason I even remember it.

The fight scene with Hokuto was pretty awesome. I was so relieved to finally see Makina move pass Keisei and accept Ouri was her contracted priest. That's been pissing me off ever since the first episode. And they finally concluded what happened in Ouri's past.

I hope the next few episodes are going to be as exciting as they seem to be, what with all the shikabane that just got created in this episode.

I didn't like this one, mainly because it's again the same thing of Oori being unable to help himself. Yeah, he managed not to eat the children, but I would've preferred him absorbing their souls without the help of both Makina and the robe his brother made for him. He hasn't really done a single thing with his own strength, and again and again, the setup is perfect for him to do SOMETHING.

Wow. You seem to be forgetting something important, genius. Contracted Priests and Shikabane Himes WORK TOGETHER to defeat Shikabanes which is EXACTLY what he HAS been doing. Get a clue, dumbass.

Well I'm happy that some of my earlier questions were answered...somewhat. I feel really bad for that Shichisie guy. He and those kids were killed by Oori's mom just because she wanted to hold him in her arms. I wish he could've seen that it wasn't Oori's fault like all the other children do.

I gotta hand it to Hazama, he came up with a pretty gruesome plan. Two airplane crashes and over 100,000 people dead all over the city. Damn, this guy is heartless.

I'm curious about Akasha and Hokuto though. I have a feeling he is up to something and it may involve his old Shikabane hime.

well that explains the whole being a kid of shikabane though how did he survive being a infant. Now we know the cats connection. wow makina is getting her ass beat and we finally get hokuto background which seemed pretty sucky. So now ouri is giving her a level up. So did the cat officially fuse with ouri? Must say not a bad plan on the seven stars part. Its a very easy way to get alot of shikabane and shit is about to get real.

This show is so fucked.

Ouri is the child of a shikabane, survived only by his own vitality to a mother than never recognized him even though he kept trying.
His mother is a shikabane, one that was obsessed with having her kid, but did not care for her kid, so stole other kids and then had them die by neglecting them.
Hizuchi is the the lone shikabane of the children, who simply wanted to eat... wanted his mother... who became the body of all of them.
Kuroneko is the spirits of the children, who have the capability to make Ouri's body into a corpse.
Ouri, Kuroneko, Hizuchi... In a way... they are all siblings... all one...
Notice how this location... it's the same as when he found the cat crying... the same as where the cat got buried as he brought it back to he location in hopes it would cry.

I hate this show.
5/5, I was having a hard time following, but understood Hokuto is a predecessor to the Hoshimura clan. The Hoshimura clan is also responsible for the corpse hunting of the Kougon cult. A circle of evil. So far 100% of shikabane have been inherently evil with 2 exceptions:
-Hime, which are bonded to monks and seem to maintain their humanity while taking out other shikabane
-Kuroneko (who is a group of spirits, not shikabane) combining with Ouri (who is a human, not shikabane), who together became shikabane, but resisted doing evil action, mostly because Kuroneko is not evil (feels more like a chaotic neutral LOL)
