I actually can't stand sushi or any other type of fish besides sashimi. I agree with you about the suspicious popularity of sushi among anime fans, but I see ramen listed WAY more.

I mean, it tastes great, but everyone brings it up as their favorite. >>' Along with lots of 'desu'. LOL

SUSHI RULES. I liked it before watching anime and i don't know why liking anime should make you like sushi (minus the whole japanese link and maybe a sushi anime which i would love to see). Having said that, I like just about any food I've tried ^^

Anyway, maybe my taste differs from Japanese cause I'm European, but it's hard to say some well-made sushi tastes bad. The thing is I doubt many of you actually tried such a thing.

I loved sushi before I even heard about anime. Teriyaki Chicken and Tuna sushi are fukn awesome and taste really good. I love it with a bit of Soy sauce.

I LOL when people think sushi has anything do to with anime. People who force themselves to like sushi because of anime, are sad.

I have always had an affinity for rice, and I instantly loved anything involving tuna since I was a little kid, so it wasn't strange for me to like tuna sushi the minute I took a bite. I have also eaten some others and they don't taste bad either. Which is quite something for a hard eater such as me.

I just totally love soy sauce, use enough and most sushi will go down. (It doesn't necessarily mean I don't like sushi itself) But the most enjoyable part with sushi is watching my fellow hamburgers-only-friends faces when they for the first time eat a to large quantity of wasabi in one go, ah memories :']

I actually had sushi today. It seems that a college cafeteria is better at making sushi than an Asian buffet. So I retract my previous statement of not liking sushi, the stuff I had before just sucked. I also can tank wasabi.

Oooooh gawd sushi gives me foodgasms ;_________;

I love sushi. I actually really do like the taste, especially the shrimp and salmon kind. I also like the taste of the seaweed wrap. I like soy sauce and ginger, but not wasabi, because spicy stuff kills my taste buds and then I can't taste all the yummy subtle flavours.

I like sashimi too. :3 Salmon is sooo yummy even raw.

Sushi is flicking awesome.
If you eat sushi without the soya sauce and the wasabi, then you are a n00b, OF COURSE IT BE TASTELESS >___< You eat only cucumber and california rolls, you're not eating sushi...and it is to be expected that that kind of roll will be plain. Plus, sushi is one of those things where you can't cheat on quality because you can definitely taste the difference.

I'm Asian - but not Japanese. Even so, I grew up on rice anyways. The seaweed and raw fish -- that's nothing new either.

And if I were to have some complaints about sushi -- it would be this:

It is expensive food -- that doesn't even fill the stomach very much. I get more fill per dollar off of any fast food combo meal (for the same price). I'd say - I would have to spend $20 on sushi just to be stuffed.

So, if anything, sushi is just a luxury food - to be eaten only like once or twice a year.

But after I try it & if I dislike it I will not come back for more. Sushi doesn't make me feel any closer to anime chrs, only foods that are odd or something that stands out they like to eat is the only time I'll try it.

I liked sushi before I even knew what anime was :/ My parents were the ones who brought me and my brother to various sushi joints to try the stuff, so it's not as if anime factored into it at all.

My dad also makes sushi from time-to-time, and I quite like it. Last night we had home-made tempura-battered rock shrimp smittie over coleslaw with tempura-battered carrots/riceballs/onions/mushrooms and ahi tuna sushi rolls/prawn (cooked) sushi rolls. The reason why he made it had nothing to do with anime, and everything to do with the fact that the sauce for the rock shrimp smittie (spelling?) was incredible, and they just figured out how to make it at home.

And if you think sushi is flavorless, it's probably because you're eating shitty sushi (I like to dip it (sushi I get that is flavorless) in soy sauce with wasabi, personally. Furthermore, rolls are not the only type of sushi (e.g. Nigiri), and sushi is not the only way to eat raw fish (I love tuna tartare and poke).

As far as raw fish goes, I like salmon better than tuna, though. Raw tuna has the consistency somewhere between butter and tomato, and is good with soy sauce. Raw salmon has better flavor in my opinion.

It is expensive food -- that doesn't even fill the stomach very much. I

If you can get sashimi-grade fish at a local store, as we can here, then it isn't really that expensive to make at home. It is time consuming to make, and rolling/cutting it can be tricky, but all-in-all it's not as bad as some other dishes you can make.

I love Sushi! I wouldn't say its flavorless, Epecally when its freash!! mmmm! also Japanese Rice doesn't taste exactly the same as our rice, since they add pepers and salt, and they way they cook it, I think makes it taste better.

However after eating Sushi in Japan, I can say the sushi over here, doesn't compare.

I love sushi, but my grandparents are from Japan, so I've been eating it since before I can remember. It's delicious if eaten fresh. I once at grocery store sushi and I literally gagged on it.

This is quite true. Rice costs pennies, the seaweed isn't that expensive, either, so all you're really paying for is the fillings you want (but, because you can choose, you can choose prices, for the most part - for example, cucumber isn't overly expensive) and some rice vinegar (also not too expensive). It IS a bitch to make, though, because it's time-consuming...which is the only reason why I don't make it often xD *lazy*

Cucumber and avocado = awesome in sushi. I like sprouts in mine too.. And I agree, that crap you get in the store (which are usually just like California rolls anyway) is nothing compared to fresh sushi.

Sprouts? Like, bean sprouts?

I don't like cucumber, though, so I'm always taking them out of mine xD It's not uncommon to see a little pile of cucumber pieces sitting on my plate or napkin whenever I go to sushi places. I also don't like the kinds of sushi with cream cheese in it. Cream cheese + rice = gross. Other than those two things, I'm pretty open to all the other stuff xD
