Drop free because no substance or depth.

Then talks about dragon ball z. Lol. Punching > Swimming.

And what's the problem with that? Care to elaborate?

Basically it's the usual fanboys trying to have their cake and eat it too thing. They'll expect you to show regard for what they like by turning around and slamming you for even so much as mentioning something else in a seemingly positive light.

I hate FREE but seriously who think this anime won't sell definitely a noob.
any kind of moe (Bishie is moe for fujoshi) related will sell! at least gonna bring profit for the studio.

KyoAni using FREE for increasing their income so they can make another moe for male viewers. (chuunibyou and more importantly Tamako, who gonna expect they're going to make Tamako again)

basically, in the future, just maybe... They gonna make FREE s2 if they need another money booster...
that's my conclusion after read Tamako new project announcement.

Using Free! to increase their income so that they can make more moe? Money booster if their other projects fail?

Thanks for the laugh.

I like how we all know that's such an impossibility at this point. Almost everything Kyoani makes is going to sell, it's an entitlement as I keep saying.

@symbv: You know what dude, sorry but I'm all but done listening to you at this point on this matter as a lot of things you are arguing right now between me and others are ringing very hollow. I do not want to love Kyoani like you seem to want me too. Please stop trying to control how I think and feel on this matter.

Really? Just few months ago there was a show called shinsekai yori and it had subtance and depth much enough for me to kept watching it till the end, and don't get me started with PP and R;N, and they're all anime. so i don't get what you mean by "futile" when it comes to seeking depth and subtance in anime. . . . Oh well, probably different type of depth compared to shows like Free! then

I like to see it as having a reason to get really invested in a show. It doesn't have to be super smart or clever always, it just needs to be consistently interesting enough to pull me in. Something like Titan has that factor for me and my friends, something like Free simply does not even in a slow season like this summer has been. There's nothing futile about it for sure, you just have to find what you enjoy.

I think it's a tremendous difference between Japanese and Western fans to be honest. I don't want to say that Japanese fans don't seem to care about being invested in entertainment, but at least where late night anime is concerned right now they seem to look for VERY different things on average than Western fans expect out of something that airs late at night.

As I said time and time again, I never ever asked you to love KyoAni. I just want you to see things from a view point that is not your entrenched studio fanboy view, which to be honest nobody is sharing here. And it is not just me who said this to you, VioLink and others have told you the same thing. You just seem to have this us-vs-them mentality, so to you people asking you to stop going to extreme in interpreting news are messing with you or trying to control you. But that is simply not the case here. Instead by trying to fight against imagined "KyoAni fanboys" you end up looking obsessive and aggressive over any talk about KyoAni, successful tale or not. You told me several times that you would try to get the discussion to have more agreeable tone, but you plainly did not follow what you said. If you have done listening to me and you insist on staying with your style that is not really helping discussion (contrary to what you said you want), then I would just treat you like how I treat trolls before, and shallow sarcasm will be countered with sarcasm, since you only want to keep ensconced in the persecution mindset world of yours. This would save me a lot of time as I do not need to patiently write long text time after time. Whether it really suits everybody's interest is another matter.

What you said in the second paragraph above basically explains why it is futile. If you try to look for something that is not generally on offer, then it is futile to hold that something as your first expectation. A lot of frustration would come out because of that, and soon enough it could even twist your understanding and feeling about the industry, and this seems to be what happened to many fans in the west.

So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

Anyway can anyone inform me about how well he Dragon ball Z movie did when it premiered months ago? I expected more than 30k on DVD+BD sales :|. Monogatari is next week woot! woot! o/.

You missed some numbers, the DBZ movie sold 50,381 BD/DVDs.
And the first Monogatari volume comes out on October 23. I'm curious to see how much it's going to sell, since it's predicted to sell a lot lower than the previous seasons.

And stuck in the middle are the vast majority of people like me who like some of the stuff they do and don't like other stuff they do, that vast majority is missing from your viewpoint.
Just because Hyouka is one of my favorite 2012 shows doesn't mean I like everything they do.Just because I dropped chuunibyou and free doesn't mean I'm a harsh critic towards Kyoani.

No it is not true. I guess whoever said it had the misunderstanding that just because it is handled by one TV station it is only available in one prefecture. In fact, the TV station Nippon Terebi broadcasts to Kanto region in general and this covers Tokyo, Kanagawa, Chiba, Saitama, Gunma, Ibaraki and Tochigi prefectures. Also it is available over the net via its Nippon Terebi On Demand service. It is definitely not getting as much coverage as many other anime but it is not so bad that only Tokyo can see it.

Actually on the contrary, Haitai Nanafa arguably has better coverage than Kitakubu because Haitai is available on cable network AT-X which covers the whole Japan, although the broadcast date is several weeks behind compared to Okinawa (where the anime was made). Of course AT-X needs subscription (which is why I said "arguably") but in terms of area covered Haitai fares better than Kitakubu.

I've always wondered how behind AT-X was on that anime. It always seemed like it was 3 months behind since it airs on AT-X close to or after the Okinawan broadcast which is the next anime season afterward.

The first season started airing 3 months after the original broadcast, and then (usually) aired twice as much content in one go, so was finished in half as much time as the original broadcast took.

Not sure about the situation with the second series, as I haven't bothered to check.

Not that haitai nanafa has a DVD or Blu-ray release anyway.

First season aired 3 months after the Okinawan broadcast with 2 episodes a week on Thursdays

Second Season also aired at the same amount of time after the original with 1 episode per week and on Sundays.

Still wondering why there is no home video release and then there's the tease of a worldwide release.

I'm very happy to hear this :3

I don't have a doubt that it'll get a second season, it's the waiting that's going to annoy me.

Well, I am not going to buy the BD either but precisely because of this it is all the better to see someone highlighting any awesome packaging art of the BD. Kitakubu's art is really cool as it shows the same scene from different angles and all fit in their respective positions on the box.

AT-X usually is not that far behind. Often it is the first to air (which would make it meaningful to pay subscription). However Okinawa always runs things a bit differently and so all the arrangements with this Okinawa produced anime are not what you usually see for other anime. The big delay for AT-X is one such example (as originally the anime is planned to air only in Okinawa, AT-X bought the right of distribution at some late stage).

Forecast for Gin no Saji is 2.4k with half the sales in BD and half in DVD. Makai Ouji has 3.0k estimated and 70% of the sales from DVD. The ranking so far, in an average week, is not inspiring. And Kitakubu and C3-bu are not to be seen - not surprising but would like to see how bad the notorious C3-bu is going to do....

I am very interested to see how the next batch will do though:

Love Lab (forecast 3.3k)
Fantasista Doll (forecast 1.3k)

Don't expect to see Inu to Hasami ranked though....

Low tier sales chatter is always interesting and oft unexplored subject. Sadly though they tend to include the series I tend to most enjoy any given season. I think the shows that interest me the most tend to usually fall in around the 2-3K range on average. I wish shows like Gin no Saji would get more love from buyers in Japan but at the same time I think it's a boost the manga series profile type of anime.

Again though that's why at the end of the day despite some of my bluster I don't place THAT high a value on how well a series does and you won't see me cheer leading too much when something I really enjoy like Shingeki no Kyojin actually does well and you definitely won't hear me saying something like, "God I.G Finds A Way" or some sort of similar mantra.

Well, in that Shingeki no Kyojin had sold several million volumes before the animation was released and was hugely anticipated, there really wasn't much need to be a cheerleader. All the fans were hoping for was that the animator wouldn't screw it up totally. So that isn't exactly the same thing.

But wouldn't you be happy if Gin no Saji actually sold 10K? Free fans are happy that their show started at 3K and ended up at 25K. Who wouldn't be happy? I was overjoyed that GuP beat SAO. I rooted it on here because for me these successes help to ensure that companies will continue to make offbeat shows (and because I think SAO's adaptation was really poor). Animation would be even worse than you think it is if only safe shows like Shingeki were made (and this is not to knock Shingeki, but just the attitude of only going for shows with mainstream popularity).

YEAAAAAAAAAA- Okay that was stupid I apologise.

I'm a big Kyo-Ani fan, they made my favorite anime series(Clannad) and my favorite anime movie(The disappearance), so I am always happy to see there shows doing this well. Tamako Market wasn't bad, it just wasn't really trying to be anything other than moe cuteness which in the end made it both boring and unsuccesful, so I was reallly glad when I saw them take a risk with Free, which is why I am so happy that it is doing well for them.
Free doing so well also gets me more exited for Kyouki no Kana next season, considering how well the action was animated in Chuunibyou, and this show just seems like that with more action.

P.S. I did, and still do find the manservice in Free absolutely hilarious.

I would be incredibly surprised and probably fairly hopeful but I'm also a realist that realizes that it simply does not have the right mix of elements to ever reach those numbers. Being deliberately paced, off beat, having well realized and eccentric characters and capitalizing well on themes is simply not enough, you need the right look and names to attract the buyers. It also doesn't help its case that it has next to no fanservice and attractive characters, its pretty raw is best I could describe it, pun not intended.

I just noticed Short Peace is finally listed for Blu-Ray release for January 2014. This could well be my most anticipated animated movie release of the year and has been on my radar ever since I found out one of the shorts in it's collection, Combustible, was on the shortlist for the 2013 Oscar Nominations for best foreign short film. That's something that doesn't happen all that often these days if ever really with nods for those very often going to French film.

Love Lab v1 being close to Majestic Prince v4 does not bode too well for Love Lab. I have a feeling that the Stalker estimate of 3.3k may actually be an overestimate...

Huh, would you look at that. BroCon volume 2 is not doing as bad as expected, in fact, it's doing much better than I expected. Maybe it'll do 5k first week?
Volume 3 is slowly picking up the pace on Stalker as well.

Glad to see Love Lab has decent daily rankings in its first 3 days. I was worried it might be overestimated by stalker but it looks like it'll at least meet the projection if not be slightly underestimated. Still though, this is a discounted first volume with the OP single, so I imagine its difficulty will be in retaining buyers for the rest of the release.
