By the way, the second episode is called Critical: I think that was related to the girl's "ability" as well. Yeah, the full title of ep.2 is 寿命中断(クリティカル) which is the ability Nunotaba Shinobu claimed to have. So this is mainly the debut of this character I believe: ![]() Yes, that is the general speculation amongst fans and is most likely correct. ----- Actually, I am guessing that in her debut they will be partly be showing: the scene where Nunotaba Shinobu fights those delinquents and uses Critical on them and where Misaka is watching this. On another note, about The #6 Level 5, I got the official English version of Railgun Volume 7 just yesterday and the committee never refers to him/her/it by pronoun but just as "Number 6". As such, there is no clarification about what gender this mysterious being known as the Number 6 is. Thank you for the update. This is good and very useful confirmation. :) Also, @ symbv, thank you for clarifying about the Japanese wiki as well about the number 6. I already edited the English wiki to show the #6's gender is unknown. @ everyone else that posted recently... I'm sorry, but I just don't find Nunotaba Shinobu appealing in any way. Goth loli really isn't my thing... She has a dark personality as well... but I like her compassion. She is a prodigy, but she still realizes she is doing wrong things. That's pretty cool. She also is on the move constantly to try to shut down the project. That is pretty cool too. Also, completely unrelated, but in terms of the characters in railgun who don't really appear in Index (anime and light novels) that much, Saten is probably the best character. She was really well done for railgun. She is the only example of a "normal" level 0 that is a student in Academy city, I think... |

That is Saten's appeal: she doesn't have an ability or special skill (as Uiharu does) but she still tries to contribute, and often succeeds through sheer willpower. Another reason I like her is that, given her personality, she has all the makings of a high level esper just waiting for a chance to break free. As Uiharu pointed out, Saten definitely has a strong grasp on "personal reality", and if she can get over her mother induced fear of having an ability (which is tied to her charm), it would be like removing the control rods from a nuclear reactor. We know she has a wind power, a Tornado vortex would be a pretty awesome power: the scale to measure tornadoes is called the Fujita Index, and a level 5 is sheer destructive power (wiki has a good article on this). What is even more neat is that there is a theorized level 6: total destruction. I have purposely not gone much ahead of the animation, but I have heard that Saten isn't covered in the novels. Pity that, but I can dream. |

So quick question for people who got to railgun manga chapter 58. Did you guys realize that the girl who was protecting Saten is Xochitl? This means we might see Railgun SS novel in the 24 episode season animated as well or instead of the Misaki arc (is this likely? maybe). This is interesting because either we are supposed to know that Xochitl met Saten from SS or we will find out? When I realized this and saw two other people mention it, I was like OMG, no way! Yeah that's the question. Also, I just noticed the reference that was made when Uiharu criticized Saten for going through alleyways and Saten just changed the subject. Nice foreshadowing for the next episode probably |

If you look at the episode at 20 minutes and between 2.8 to 3.5 seconds you can see Endymion, the space elevator in the background when Misaka is falling right after the bad guys say: "She's a level 5!" You have to look really carefully, but when I saw it, I thought wow to myself. They really are going above and beyond for this season. |

Imho the reason why people LOVE Saten so much is because she's maybe the character you can most easily relate to. She's the one with no powers. The one who tries super hard when other can just move a hand and succeed due to their powers. The one who makes this godawful mistake when using level upper. The one who has to overcome the kind of punishment that comes as a consequence of it. The one that tries to overcome her own limitations every single day. The one that, no matter how far behind she seems to be, tries to have fun everyday, and to make every single day count. |

The first episode started almost as the first episode of the first season, I keep having flashbacks of Misaka saving Saten from the bad guys and electrocuting them, as well as the presentation of the Academy City etc. Is it just me or were there no guys in the episode? (excepting bystanders and episodic bad guys) So static energy helps you climb walls, hmm? ![]() Pretty sweet. Even if it defines the laws of physics. Per total it was good, having more of an introductory role, I hope the episodes will get better and better. Can't wait to see Accelerator >.< |

HotaruKara said: So static energy helps you climb walls, hmm? ![]() Pretty sweet. Even if it defies the laws of physics. They didn't really explain this like they should have but the building was most likely made of ferrous materials. As long as it conducts electricity, Misaka can cling to the building. This was already explained in episode 11 or 12 of the first season I think when Misaka fought Kiyama and used her magnetism to pull herself up to the wall in order to evade Kiyama. This particular thing doesn't defy the laws of physics. Other things in the show maybe, this not so much. HotaruKara said: Per total it was good, having more of an introductory role, I hope the episodes will get better and better. Can't wait to see Accelerator >.< The next episode which premiers in around 12 hours is called Critical. The manga plot definitely built up and since it looks like the show will probably follow the manga, then we can assume that each episode will be better than the last. This will surely happen partly because of the really amazing plot that the Sisters arc already has. And yes, I can't wait for Accelerator, but Mugino hasn't been animated yet. I'm probably more excited for her. Hopefully, the second arc has a good storyline as well in addition to the sisters arc. |

I just found out that the episode 2 preview summary references the "large scale field trip" that will be happening soon which is most likely a direct reference to the trip to arts and sciences city from the Railgun SS Light Novel. This means it is likely that both arcs will be adapted for all 24 episodes because they will introduce Xochitl |

They didn't remove anything from the source, nor change anything aside adding Saten to parts she wasn't around in originally. I don't see how expanding on the story and providing top quality filler because the manga wasn't done with the next arc is seen as a failure of an adaptation. In fact it was SO GOOD of one it not only got a season 2 but became MASSIVELY POPULAR in Japan and in the west - with index fans, index haters, and people who don't know what index is at all. It's far from a botched adaptation and, in many people's eyes (admittedly, myself included) outdid the original material - by taking it, adapting it very faithfully, and then expanding on it very skillfully. Even from an objective point of view though the series was a "good" adaptation at worst. It kept to the original source material very faithfully and intact with just a few added bits here and there (mostly all just saten). In terms of adaptation quality, they did an unarguably good job taking the material and turning it into anime. Note - when I say the adaptation, I am very much specifically talking about the ADAPTED stuff, not the filler episodes, which I loved but aren't "good" nor "bad" in terms of adaptation quality - because they weren't adapted. And no, I was just explaining that Accelerator isn't in S1 (because he wasn't there in the manga either) because you said you were asking if he'll be important here unlike in season 1. I was making sure you're aware he didn't even exist in season 1 of Railgun, I don't recall even a slight cameo of him at all in it. Don't take it so aggressively, that's just how I write. |

Goldzero: good point. I hate to say it, but in actuality, the first season of railgun was too slow for a lot of people. I loved it because I like "filler" (plotlines that provide character development) and I liked Misaka and all of the other main characters. I also very much liked the action. However, for people who didn't like slice of life, they thought index was very cool instead. Railgun was very excellent and I am sad when I hear people that they absolutely don't think so or that it was too slow to pique their interest to that's just tough... But there are people like that. People like fast paced things sometimes. That's why the author provided both worlds. Yes, railgun is definitely not a side-story; it is stand-alone as well. Both of them are, and in your opinion railgun is more-so, but I think that both of them are popular and have a huge fanbase. Touma has been #1 or #2 in terms of male characters and Accelerator #2 or #3 in terms of male characters for the last five years practically while Misaka has been #1 for female characters. However, Touma has been above Misaka every single year in terms of overall characters (both male and female included)... this kind of shows that Index is obviously popular too. Touma has been practically the second or first most popular light novel character for at least five years. Sure you can hate him, but he was in the opening so he IS relevant to this discussion and thread. I mean... Touma is part of railgun as well. He is a character that brings a lot of fans which helps support the franchise so you can watch the seasons of railgun that you like to watch... Mikoto is one of my favorite characters ever, but I will decide whether she is the best female character ever after this season animated. (well until more comes out). I will say that the storyline for this season was one of the best storylines I have ever read. The manga made me cry tears... lol, actually. So I'm saying it was ridiculous. This manga series was like the clannad after story of manga. So I will say if they do this correctly railgun s will be one of the best series ever... That's not saying that index season 4 or 5 won't also be incredible. Season 3 will be great but climaxes are always better. In the end, railgun was made because Mikoto was so popular and the author noticed this. He made a good decision. The world is viewed from a powerful level 5 instead of from a "weak," crybaby level 0. You pick whichever one you prefer. This is a railgun thread so fine we can talk about railgun, just don't hate on Index and talk about Index haters and people not knowing about Index when in fact Index as a light novel series is #1 or #2 in terms of most popular series and the railgun anime first season was popular but nowhere even close in terms of the same effect. This second season might change things, but wait til all 24 episodes come out and stop bashing Index in the meantime. Have you heard me bash railgun even once? Knowing what the person's saying helps I guess. I also like how on topic with this season it is. It was a really good ending. By the way, the voice actress for Index is a really really popular voice actress that in fact has a ton of characters that she voices and is very successful so that isn't really that surprising. Index is definitely one of her smaller characters in comparison to her others... But yeah I agree she's a good singer! |

It appears when everyone gives up on someone as a lost cause and removes their path to salvation. Once they are cut off from everyone else, they become evil.” -Othinus |

While it is normal to say a name like that due to surprise it just happens to be Frenda's name lol. |

Watching the first season first was worth it for now I can fully enjoy the greatness that is about to take place. The opening alone is enough to make me tremble from excitement. |

So for all of us who were commenting before: this season is way faster paced. Way, way faster paced (well it's getting there). Episode 5 of this season was the best episode in the entire Index franchise (many people have said this already and sincerely agree with this sentiment) so continue watching, because this IS a true adaptation, which means it is as perfect as the manga was, but much much better. So please continue watching, have faith, you'll be happy and maybe even surprised. |

Ooh, don't get me wrong. I have faith, a lot of it in this show's case, because I've watched the two Index seasons first. Based on that I took a liking to Mikasa and went into Railgun 1 with an open-minded attitude. But it being so different from Index, I was taken aback a little and was not sure if the show really suited my taste. I finished it nonetheless, knowing that the sequel would deliver great things and that it did so far. That's why I said I'm glad that I managed to finish the first Railgun season without dropping it or getting bored midway. Still thanks for your encouraging words. I'll make sure to heed them. |

Well that was a nice episode. Mixed feelings of having a filler character suddenly being present though. |

That was a great start to the season, especially loved the upside down railgun shot in midair by Misaka. One small thing though, how did Misaka land safely on the turbine? :O |

From first season, she can cling to walls by using magnetism. So she did it to land safely. (It's implied) |

Misaka is badass as always On a side note, I believe Misaka said in some episode in Index that she didn't have homework? lolwat? I know that Accelerator doesnt have attend classes because he doesnt need them and the same can be said about #2 and #3 but I dont remember if Mikoto can choose to not attend now that she is in Tokiwadai. |

I think it might be season 1 episode 18 when Misaka and Touma are on a "date"? Anyway, I know the two were together for some reason and Touma was trying to finish his homework but he gets distracted by some stuff. Misaka says something like "Homework? Oh, I've heard of that" and Touma is like "You don't have homework?" Well it is either that her homework is so easy for her that it cant be considered one or what I said above.Or maybe homework in Tokiwadai takes place inside the classroom so it isnt exactly homework. |

Or perhaps she meant summer homework That I would understand since we dont have summer homework in my country(because unlike in Japan the new year starts in September),but every single series that involves japanese students makes a point of how bothersome summer homework is. |
