What do you think so far? I know Sagan is very well respected and I've been occasionally debating whether to get his books, given that I'm already a fairly staunch skeptic and rationalist.

For my part, I'm re-reading Frank Herbert's "Dune" (sci-fi epic) like the nerd I am. ^^

I also just recently finished my first reading of Voltaire's "Candide" (philosophical social satire) and was really pleasantly surprised. For such an old text, I found it highly readable and actually funny.

Twilight. Someone finally dragged me to the movies and I was highly curious to read the book.

It is poorly written, fractured, unclear....

....and utterly addicting >< I can see why the fangirls where squealing. Please save me from insanity.

Get to hate Bella. That's the sollution. The other 3 books of the trilogy (hah) are even worst and you don't really need to read them to find Edward enjoyable.

I spent the weekend finishing all 4.5 books (I read the edward half book too) and I want that part of my life back ^^.

One of those things I just had to finish. Her writing style got better, but the plot went to hell. I do have to say I really enjoyed the edward book. I find that view far more interesting.

My friends still do not have the half book (I think they want the translated version?) so I could not borrow it yet. I don't know what kind of news that point of view may give (maybe another *headdesk* for the litterary and musical ignorance of the author?) but got to finish the trilogy.

Right now she has it available on her website to view in PDF. The book itself got leaked, so she refuses to finish it, but posted that. Its kinda interesting in his view. MUCH better than Bella's. Their family and his head is MUCH more interesting.

Slowly trudging through Wicked.

Don't get me wrong, I love it, it's just kind of hard to read. The book makes the musical look like a light-hearted romp through fairyland. I'm going to have to go back and read it a second time, because there's a lot of information to digest. I still love it though. Glorified fanfiction or not, it's pretty damn amazing. The author's style amuses me. All the things that make most people gasp and blush he just mentions matter of factly and moves on. (Elphie is my new favorite character)

And there is a high chance that I've posted in this thread with the same book. If I did, sorry about that. Let's hope I haven't grown that forgetful.

I'm a Star Wars fan-addict. Loved the movies. Saw the original two movies when they re-released them in the 80's before the release of episode 6 in 92'. I've read most of the books they have out, which has taken a long time. I stayed away from the New Jedi Order series because I felt it kind of killed the magic...but i've been reading some of them now...slowly.

I've actually been reading the X-wing series by Michael Stackpole. I read a few of them in the past but out of order, now im reading the actual series and currently am on book 2.

I'm almost finished re-reading through Hitomi Kanehara's 'Snakes and Earrings', and then I have Suzanne Collins' 'Hunger Games' to check out afterwards.

The X-wing Series are quite enjoyable / fun to read, so you'll better finish the series although it's a bit long (9 books, as I remember). Anyway, the new Jedi Order ones are more than double that length, so you'll have to make a little practice ^^ Maybe the first ones could seem a little boring, but after Agents of Chaos the action gets fairly intense.

You should check the Darth Bane and Timothy Zahn's books, were my favs from the Star Wars universe so far ...

Ender in exile got out in November or smth, and there are a lot of short stories between it and the last book (Children of the mind). The action takes place somewhere after the Formics were destroyed, in the first book (Ender's game).
Also Scott announced another book in the shadows series, (Shadows in Flight) but it's not yet clear if it would follow the plot from Shadow of the giant or from Children of the Mind.
I agree there were good reads, though the first book(s) was(were) the best in my opinion ^^

Aw I loved Dune, and I'm not a sci-fi fan much either. From what I remember it was a little bit difficult, but no so much that I had absolutely no idea what was going on. If you're anything like me and are susceptible to sci-fi overloads, it helps to just put it down for a bit instead of trying to plow right through it (unless that works for you). It was definitely entertaining, I think you'll enjoy it.

I'm still stuck at the Purgatory, but my friend is lending me the new book for our "mini fantasy-trilogy litterature club" (something about the daughter of the black blood and a guy with dark nails). I WANT TO FINISH DANTE OMG it's desperating.
