I don't know why everyone keeps saying "Drop the fanservice." It clearly isn't the focus and adds a breath of fresh air to show.

I mean, do you really want another generic "Hero teams with demon to save everyone"anime? Because that has been done before plenty of times.
Yeah, and fanservice has never been done before... >.>

An amazingly great and exciting start to this series. I totally enjoyed it from start to finish. As it stands now, its already looking like best of this season. I can't wait to see how this story unfolds.

For everyone saying generic MC, I have some bad news, from reading the manga this is the first manga since Kaze no Stigma that makes MC really OP and BA.

About the fanservice, as it was already said, it kinda gives the fresh air to the anime, it's okay since there was this "fanservice" on the manga, as long as they don't overuse it on the anime then it shouldn't be a problem.

For people saying that the first episode was boring, well, I'm sorry but this anime isn't for you. If you are expecting fights like a shounen manga (OP, Naruto w/e) you are going to be disappointed.

They did a good job with the anime so far, although I would prefer the manga art style this one of the light novel isn't so bad, I just kinda felt that there were sometimes in the first episode that felt kinda awkward like the South King (I don't recall correctly the names right now) talking with his dad.

Oh, one thing, the OP is a massive spoiler truck, it gives some spoilers that even the manga hasn't caught up yet

Hero is too similar to generic virgin ecchi anime male leads and the show is ruined by those tits. SaW is one of my fave animes, I was looking forward for this, sadly it is not in that level yet. Curse you producers for all of those bouncing boobs!

Did you watch it on mute or something? The boob physics were probably and i shit you not a total of 20 seconds.
How do you see MC as a generic virgin ecchi anime male lead. When she hugged him he wonked her on the head. Think carefully about whether you're saying that from how he looks or what he does....
He probably is a virgin and Arm did make him slightly ecchi but he isn't generic by far.

Fanservice took like a total of 25 seconds in a 22 min episode. That's less that on percent.

I assure you it isn't in the way and everyone is making a big deal over nothing.

It's a fair complaint (cf. Spice and Wolf which basically had no fanservice).

A fairly decent start for a show. Has quite a few Spice&Wolf-ish vibes overall and the story is interesting and hilarious at the same time so far.

The main characters, even though not much of them has been shown in terms of character yet, do seem interesting and overall setting and tone of the anime is unique enough to be enjoyable too.

Soundtrack-wise the oppening is bad bad bad bad. Visually decent, but the OP song is amongst the more generic and boring ones. The ED song on other hand is brilliant, yet alcks any good visuals.

Story-wise I am fairly convinced that "The demons" are just far-future humans who have colonized a new world(be it a planet or parallel dimension), with the "Humans" being the natives of that world.

That had a natural feeling to it, and everything in Spice and Wolf was quality. It does feel forced here after all, and cheap. I'm not complaining about it though, just saying.

So this is what it ended up for this internet legend (the story was first uploaded in an internet forum and only later became a light novel after strong word-of-mouth publicity). It is definitely what the fans said it is another S&W -- Spice and Wolf, or shall we say, Succubus and Warrior? lol

The anime has to make do with less in-depth explanation of the economics, sociology and environment and adds some little action and fan-service, but to me it is a welcome distraction to prevent it from becoming a long session of lecture. The manga has more of the that kind of discussion (as it is easier to squeeze in wall of text in manga) though even that is necessarily an abridgement from the novel.

It is not so common to have a LN that is already ended being made into anime (yes, Fate/Zero is quite an exception too), and the topic is really unique and fresh. Just hope it can continue with the promising quality delivered so far.

So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

-Shuda- hit the nail on the head. Nudity =/= fanservice. The first episode of S&W never puts undue focus on any part of her naked body, and doesn't have her breasts sway unnaturally every time she moves.

I hope this anime goes well as it progresses. It's been (I think) a few since I seen a new adventure/fantasy type anime.
I got some misgivings on the claims on the hero from the opening monologue and during the episode hope I am told different later on.

I don't want any fan service in my anime unless it's an ecchi. I Nearly closed MPC at roughly 4 mins when I saw it because I was hoping for something like spice and wolf not jiggle mania.

The bad thing everyone's talking about is, this anime mixes up many generic cuts from our "general ecchi setting" with a good setting like spice and wolf. I'm waiting the demon to fall over the hero with hero's hand grasping her boobs, then they blush and "forget that!" scenes.

As I said I'm a big fan of S&W. I rewatched it many times, still love it extremely. But this anime doesn't offer what S&W gave me. Well, can't cry over the spilled milk..

Also S&W dont contain disturbing nudity, or any kind of excessive shitty fanservice. I hate when an anime besides in ecchi genre use fanservice just to catch the attention of shitty juvenile male viewers. I'm not against fanservice, I just don't want anime sector to become audience seeking, marketing crazed bastards.

I will watch this throughly if they dont mess up with the story too much. Fanservice in this anime is not swaying us much from the story, overall. But if you want the S&W 3 don't disappoint yourself.

Hagure Yuusha no Estetica, Hyakka Ryouran: Samurai Girls, Queen's Blade, Ikkitousen and Hentai... so what the fuck did you expect from this?

My favourite voice actress doing a role that suits her best => must see. Her way of talking really reminds me of Holo. The headband scene really made me laugh, I wasn't prepared for that.
I don't expect too interesting plot but a very interesting relationship between the MCs instead, something that already drove Spice and Wolf (one of my favourites).

So I will keep on watching!

That ending, removable headband. I'm pretty sure that this show is about two factions (both human) that just have a war to make sure that there won't be trouble within the faction itself. The opening is just horrible and doesn't fit the show at all, the ending is decent but nothing more.

That was a somewhat interesting and ultimately decent introductory episode, but it was also surprisingly flawed and a bit monotonous, as this episode largely served to establish the setting and introduce the nuances within the economics, which was quite enjoyable, if not a bit mundane.

The economic principles and the history of their world have been fairly straightforward, but also relatively complex. As such, the heightened examination of the complexities surrounding economics was highly intriguing, but, so far, those informative conversations partially lack the compelling and enjoyable interactions that heavily contributed to the considerable effectiveness of those found in Spice and Wolf. Though the economics were consistently intriguing, the dialogue that accompanied them wasn’t particularly subtle, which would have complemented the material in a more effective manner. However, assuming the character dynamics continue to develop in a satisfying manner, this aspect of the show definitely has the potential to improve.

The characters, though quite engaging, have yet to evolve towards a possession of any singularly substantial characterization; certainly none that would constitute considerable interest in their development, as they simply lack a depth that is typically necessary for stories of this nature. Of course, I do expect this slight flaw to be remedied as the narrative continues to develop. The touches of comedy throughout provided some of the best moments within the episode, since, for the most part, it illustrated a considerably balanced approach to storytelling, as humorous antics typically followed sequences of dramatic intent in a surprisingly effective and satisfying manner, rarely leaning too heavily in one particular direction. The scene with Hero’s body pillow was easily one of the best moments in the episode.

Hero and Demon Queen’s interactions are rather enjoyable so far, since they have pretty good chemistry, but those moments, and, in turn, their relationship will likely improve immensely as the story progresses, since their somewhat engaging dynamic will be partially elevated by a filtering of further complexities into both of their characterizations, particularly Hero, which I assume is inevitable. As such, I would have likely preferred a more methodical approach towards establishing Demon Queen’s feelings for Hero, as they lacked a certain development necessary in order to effectively portray the initial flourishes of their seemingly imminent romance.

The direction was quite good, yet occasionally inconsistent, especially noticeable during the several highly ineffective sequences that involved an unnecessarily heavy usage of disconcerting camera rotations. The animation was pretty good, but quite unremarkable. The visuals were inconsistent in quality, but the background art, in particular, was quite impressive, often displaying a rather appealing aesthetic. The CGI, for the most part, was poorly implemented and needlessly distracting. Musically, this episode was surprisingly great, particularly the selection that was used throughout the opening sequence. Also, the musical selection that was filtered into Hero and Demon Queen’s contractual agreement was fantastic. Even though it possessed rather simplistic visuals, the OP was quite good, especially due the accompanying musical selection. On the other hand, the ED, though not visually spectacular, was musically terrific.

All in all, Maoyuu Maou Yuusha is a moderately enjoyable and surprisingly interesting show, but the artificially constructed nature of the character dynamics, so far, have been detrimental to the relatively compelling narrative. However, I do expect this aspect of the show to greatly improve as the story progresses, since, thankfully, the show possesses considerable potential. The brief appearance of the Female Knight was quite intriguing, and I’m looking forward to a further insight into the group of characters that Hero separated from long ago.

Do the two main characters really have no name? Just the title of Demon King and Hero? Not that I haven't dealt with nameless characters before but I never have in non-novel form.

I didn't expect to like this anime much, but I think I can safely say it's captured me.
The quirky sort of humour shared between The Demon King and Hero made me laugh a couple of times through this episode.
That Hero hug pillow and when she takes her horns off, for example.

I hope the next episode isn't full of "negotiations". I'd much rather some action!
