It's a spin-off of Lucky Star. It should be treated as a new show. I would like to see Lucky Star mains cameo in this. But I hope the VAs (esp. Hirano's) won't affect Konata's reappearance. It would be sad if she became mute all of a sudden.

There is not really an overall plot to the show, but each episode past the first few actually have their own plots.
For example, in one episode they go to a festival, in another an anime convention, in another one the beach ect. and it is not just trivial discussion about food. The jokes get much better (Kagami and Konata make a good double act).
I suggested my anime society should watch it, but found out they already had and hated it. But after checking a few MAL profiles, it seems they only saw the first handfull of episodes. You shouldn't really judge a series until your at least half way in my opinion (and certainly not after two episodes).
